News of the Elmwood Area: Biro tty Mrs. Dudley Leavitt , Tel. 42447 H ELMWOOD (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pool together with their daughter, Linda and son, George, and a cousin, Bob Talbot of George, were involved in an automobile accident July 22nd. Howard Pool was driv ing when the accident occured four miles from Wahoo at an intersection. The driver of the other car was Melvin Person, whose wife was with him. The occupants of both cars were hospitalized at Wahoo. Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Eveland, parents of Mrs. Howard Pool, went to Wahoo Monday hoping their family would be able to return to their home. Both cars were reported to be badly damaged. The Pool car was a new Mercury, it was re ported that the corn obstructed the approaching car, but no def inite information. Tyson of Cam bridge visited her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Robb on Tuesday, July 17th. That evening all were dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Tyson of Murray. Overnight Visitor Mrs. Alta Wrest, Deputy of RNA was in Elmwood writing insurance for Maple Leaf Camp No. 5392. She was an overnight guest at the home of the re corder, Mrs. Mina T. Leavitt. A Robb of Indianapolis, Ind., who are visiting Mrs. Robb's father, Alfred Christensen of Fremont. Mr. and Mrs. F. Marion McCrory also accompanied them to Fre mont. Jim Stewart is the Relief Mis souri Pacific Railroad agent, in the absence of B. E. Sumner Mr. Stewart lives in Lincoln and drives back and forth each day. B. E. Sumner underwent sur gery July 17 in the Missouri Pa cific Hospital at St. Louis, Mo Mrs. Sumner has been spending her time in St. Louis to be near him and is also visiting her daughter in Ft. Leavenworth Kans. Ed Bornemeier was taken to Bryan Hospital Monday for ex amination and observation. He has been in bed several days with what he thought was a heart condition. However the doctor thought it was due to 1 conditions other than organic. 5 Birthdays Are Observed At One Party ELMWOOD (Special) Cele brating the birthdays of five, whose birthdays occurred dur ing the past week, about thirty- five friends and relatives gath ered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oehlerking. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Luetchens, Harold Luetchens and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vogt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Oehlerking, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Oehlerking and daughter of Alvo, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Schwaninger of Hal- lam, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Rose now and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marshall and' Clark, Miss Sharon Wall of Eagle, Mrs. Minnie Rosenkoetter, Mrs. Au gust Oehlerking, Mrs. Gussie Jochens, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kuhlenengel of Syracuse. And, Carolyn Stock of Mur dock, Larry White of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Miss June Shields of Stony- Fork, Ky. Miss Shields is a friend of Mrs. Kuhlenengel and the two were former roommates at Bellevue. The evening was spent in visiting and showing family pictures on slides. Mrs. Luetke is the former Gladys Muenchau. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Thomp son had their grandsons, Mich ael and Gary Junker, from Fairbury visiting them the past week. Mrs. Thompson's mother Mrs. Anna. Gage of Fairbury, is visiting: them this week. Mrs. Emily Gonzales enter tained at Sunday dinner, Dr Bert L. Story. Donald Gonzales and family were also guests They are on a vacation and vis iting his mother. Mr. and Mrs Donald Gonzales returned to Lincoln with Dr. Story, where they were to meet Mr. and Mrs LeRoy Cook and were going to their home at Tekamah for a few days visit. Pam Jones and Garry Jones, grandchildren of Mrs. Clark Gonzales, are visiting them this week. Mrs. Eldro Patton and chil dren spent last week visiting her sister and brother-in-law and family, Sgt. and Mrs. Brice Quellhorst of Ft. Leavenworth, Kans. Miller attended the funeral of a cou sin, Albert Teten of Talmadge, at St. Paul EUB Church. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Miller are leaving Tuesday for an in definite trip. They are going first to Great Bend, Kans., and have not decided definitely where they will go from there. They are seeking a change of climate for Mrs. Miller. The Owls met July 22nd for a Sunday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arnold. Other members of the club pres ent were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Capwell of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pratt and Richard and Grace Blessing. Breaks Hand Bob Hall had the misfortune to break some bones in his hand while playing baseball, and now has his hand in a cast. He was obliged to give up his work for I a construction company in Lin j coin. I Buddy Ahrens was fortunate enough to secure employment at a construction company at the Air Force Base, Lincoln. Mrs. Dudley Allen of Omaha spent last weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs Everett Morton. Mrs. Morton tripped to Beatrice for a fam ily gathering on Sunday. Leave For Denver Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips accompanied Harold 'Manning and son, Bobby, Mrs. Burton and Miss Patricia Tuckner to Denver, Colo., returning home Sunday evening. Mrs. Walker assisted at the telephone office during their absence. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Palmer and family of Lincoln visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grov- er Palmef Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Phillips and family of Elmwood, visited his parents, Mr. and Mi;s. H. N Phillips Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scat tergood tripped to Beatrice Sun day and met their daughter and family, the Eldon Sorensens of Ruskine where they enjoyed a picnic dinner. Visits Parents Mr. and Mrs. Orville Muen chau and family of Sioux City Iowa, visited his parents, Mr and Mrs. William Muenchau a few days this week. The latter was at the hospital for a few days and returned home Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. John Fischer and Kathy visited Mrs. L. K Eidenmiller and Mrs. Floyd Siekman at the hospital Sunday afternoon. A vacation Bible school wil be offered and conducted for children up to the eighth grade at the Methodist Church, Mon day August sixth through Fri day August tenth. Classes wil convene from 9 a. m. to 11:45 a. m. The promotion and pro gram will be Sunday morning, the Church school at 10 a. m. A family picnic and basket din ner will be held Sunday Aug ust 19th at Bethany Park in Lincoln. Project Club The copper demonstration for all members and friends of the project training club of Eagle will be Friday afternoon July 27 at 1 p. m. in the firehouse. WSCS To Meet The Women's Society of Chris tian Service will meet at the Methodist Church next Wednes day afternoon with Mrs. Nora Ketelhut and Mrs Esther Lan ning as co-hostesses. Alice Frohlich will conduct the de- votionals and Evelyn Ransford will lead the lesson. The official board of the Meth odist Church met at the home of LaVelle Swarts, chairman of the board, on Tuesday evening Following the business meeting an informal reception was held for Rev. and Mrs. Don Christen sen. Coffee and cookies were served by the hostess and Mrs Laura . West and Mrs. Ellen Frohlich. August Wolken, who has been convalescing at the nursing home in Elmwood, for several weeks, was taken to Bryan Memorial Hospital on Monday for a checkup and medical attention. The encampment will be held at Camp Harriet Harding. The camping program leads off a series of late summer 4-H activities including practice judging days, practice demon stration day, share-the-fun festi val and 4-H shows. Activites will include swim ming, sports, handicraft, active games, stunt night, vesper ser vices and flag raising and low ering ceremonies. Rodeo is no longer a strictly western sport. Last year there were 56 RCA-approved rodeos west of the Mississippi, and more rodeos in New York than in Arizona, Nevada, New Mex ico North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah or Wyoming. Mr. Stoehr is expected to be home the first part of the week. Arthur and Oren Derby drove to Silver City, Iowa, Monday on business. Mrs. Roy Derby spent last week at the Oren Derby home. Mrs. Derby expects to leave the last of the week for Calif ornia, where she makes her home. Capt. and Mrs. Marvin Rud olph and family of Denver, Colo., arrived in Eagle during the weekend and visited her parents Mr and Mrs. Milton Rodaways and Mr. and Mrs. John Rudolph and families. Captain Rudolph has been as signed in Washington, D. C, and made the trip prior to the family's leaving sometime ago and returned to his home for the family.
