Todd Tel. 2441 UNION (Special) The women of the Methodist Church held a reception last Sunday evening, honoring their new pastor, Rev. E. S. DeSpain, and wife. There was a good turn out in spite of threatening weather. Mrs. Stine, president of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, welcomed the guests. News of Union Summarized UNION (Special) Mrs. Carl Cross returned from Stratton, Colo., last Wednesday evening where she had attended the wed ding of her granddaughter, Jean Smith, and Max Mason, June 24th. -f : - - - -, Ira la Drove To Burwcll Mr. and Mrs. Mlvin Todd, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Todd, Jr., drove to Burwell last Sunday to check on some cattle that they have out there for the summer. They report there is plenty of grass; to last all sum mer for . the ranchers to feed their stock. ; Mrsi' Mabel Wolfe " and two sons, Tom and Edwin, left early last Sunday morning for a va cation trip. They expect to visit the Black Hills and also spend some time in Colorado. Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Wassum, son and daughter of Marion, Virginia, visited Mr. and . Mrs. Lee Faris last Saturday. On Sun day guests in the Faris home were Mr. and Mr6. George Rieke and daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. John Faris of Murray and Mr. and Mrs. Randall Faris and family of Weeping Water. Mrs. Ora Fox who has been visiting Mrs. John Faris left for her home in Spokane, Wash., last week. Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brooks at Bellevue and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Todd at Murray. Karen Ackley was four years old June 30th. In order to cel ebrate the day properly she had as her guests Jan and Mary Wolfe, Christy ' Netzenhauser, Cathy Mullis, Grandmother Ack ley, Mrs. Velma Brown and Jackie, Mrs. Helen Wolfe, grand mother Johnson and Mrs. Netzenhauser. Dinner Guests Mr. and Mrs. Verl Ackley, were Miss Hattie Soder and brother, I Ed Soder. Mr. and Mrs. Levin Lindeli; allof Ceresco, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Johnson and fam ily, Mrs.-. Johnson and--Miss Ada Johnson, all of Mead, Mies Pauline Soder of Lincoln. Mrs. Johnson, mother of Mrs. Ackley, has been spending sev eral weeks with her daughter here, but returned to Mead with her son Sunday evening: Karen Ackley also accompanied them and will spend a week with the Johnsons. PLATTSMOUTH JOURNAL Girls State Report Told By Miss True UNION (Special The Wom an's Society of Christian Ser vice met at the church last Thursday afternoon with 20 members present. Devotions were conducted by Mrs. Todd. The Scripture used was the 67th Psalm and com ments were on "Is World Fel lowship Possible" and a few thoughts on "J. C. Penny's Mis sion to Japan." Mrs. Balfour read an article on her topic "Status of Women". Mrs. Ruth Pike reviewed an other chapter of the Study Book. Iva Mougey read an, art icle from "The Methodist Worn an." Miss Betty True gave a report on her, attendance at "Girl's State" recently. She told of many of the act ivities that she participated in and felt that it was a week well spent. A vote of thanks was given Betty for her report. Mrs. Stine served cookies and iced tea at the close of the meeting. News Of South Ashland Area: Service Buddies Get Together For the First Time in 10 Years Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Knight and family of California called on Mr. and Mrs. Earl Upstore last Saturday evening. Diana and Peggy Mead of Ne braska City attended Sunday School at the Methodist Church last Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Quinlan and family of Canton, Ohio, are visiting Mrs. Quinlans parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Christensen, and parents of Mr. Quinlan at By Mrs. Ivan E. Mr. Mattingly and, Mr. Born man were buddies 'at Camp Crowder, Mr., and hadn't seen each other for 10 years. The Mattingly family had been on a trip to New. York and other points in the east before visitng at the Bornman home. They left that evening for Den ver where they will stop before returning to their, home. Visits Grandparents Miss Darlene Schneider of Valley spent from Tuesday un til Thursday with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall. Carolyn remained for a two weeks visit with her grandparents. Sunday the Boilers and their house guests took a picnic dinner and met Harley Mueller and family of Columbus at Pawnee Park in that city for a day together The men m the group were Army buddies together. , Arley Barger was surprised Wednesday evening when a group of relatives came to re mind him of his birthday. Those in the group were Mr. and Mrs Ivan Barger, and Mr. and Mrs Everett Whittlesay, all of Lin coin, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Bergren of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs Omar Yardley, Mr. and Mrs R. J. Clark, Debbie and Bobby of Omaha, came later in the evening. The children stayed un til Friday when their mother came to get them. Mrs Norman Yardley and Stevie of Stapelton were Wed- i nesday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Jones and family. Leave For Germany A Klipp family picnic was held in College View Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klipp and La Vern and Miss Lois Roger of Wann attended. This was given in honor of Mr .and Mrs. Art Bruggeman of Lincoln, who left early Monday morning by plane for Munich, Germany, where their son is serving in the armed forces. Mr. and Mrs. Bruggeman will also visit var ious other places and many rel atives. Mrs. Bruggeman is a native of Germany. This is her first visit to her native land in 29 years. Mrs. John Jones and Mrs. Sam Long and Bobby attended a shower for Miss Marilyn Kness of Omaha at the Meth odist Church parlors in Louis ville Sunday afternoon.
