I I 1 r j s a ii a I M THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Section B Thursday, June 21, 1956 South Bend New Franz Joseph Knechi Funeral Held Friday at Marcy Chapel SOUTH BEND (Special) Fu neral services for Franz Joseph Knecht, 73, who passed away June 13th at a Lincoln Hospi tal were held Friday at the Marcy Chapel. Father Max Kors, of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Plattsmcuth officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Carsten sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," accompanied by Mrs. Henry Smith. Bearers were Vernon Dill, John Gaksmeier, John Grady, Glen Theissen, Bernard Dill and Jess Fidler. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery near Nehawka. Mr. Knecht was born in Ger many, May 4, 1833. At the age of 21 he journeyed to the United States and in 190G he came to live in South Bend. Joe had received his schooling in Ger many but was pleased to at tend the school in Sarpy Coun ty to learn to read, write and speak the English language, then took a business course at Omaha. He was first employed on the farm of Bernard Knecht, fath er of Mrs. Oscar Dill, and later became associated with Emil Stutzenreger in the store at South Bend. In 1926 he pur chased the store and has been the proprietor since that time. On Sept. 3, 1937, he was unit ed in marriage to Mrs. Lottie Rosencrans, formerly of Platts mouth. They have lived in South Bend till his passing. After attending college and serving in the armed forces his step son, William Rosencrans, assisted in the store. The en suing years brought a deep and devoted friendship. In the past few years Bill has assumed the responsibility of the store which gave Mr. Knecht the opportuni ty to visit his home land in 1949. In his retirement and last few weeks of illness his absence was noted but his presence was always felt at the store. He was interned at St. John's Cemetery with Masonic rites by Pomegranite Lodge No. 110 of Ashland in charge. He leaves to mourn his pass ing his wife, Lottie, son, Wil liam and family and Mrs. Os car Dill of South Bend, other relatives and a host of friends. Fathers Day Party Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kuhn and family, Lawrence Ward of Ash land, Charles Dodds of Omaha, and Mr. and Mrs. Val Gene Ew ing and girls were Friday eve ning dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kuhn at Loui3ville in honor of Father's Day. News Briefs Of South Bend Dy Miss Elinor Fidler Tel. Ashland 6943 SOUTH BEND (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Val Ewing and fam ily attended the Hamlin fam ily reunion at Lincoln Sunday. Mrs. Richard Haswell and family and Miss Mary Leonard of Blair spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. James Wiszmann and family. Mrs. Larry Carnicle and chil dren spent Friday with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. S, F. Mor ris at Ashland. Miss Jeanie Todd of Lincoln spent the weekend with Miss Donna Parrish. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Thiessen were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lackey and family at Fremont. The dinner was in honor of Mrs. Thiessen's birthday and Fathers Day. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Preston and Dwayne of Elmwood brought the dinner ready for serving and were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Camp bell. . Miss Verla Livers returned home from Omaha Sunday to spend a three weeks vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Livers. Mrs. Sam Reichert, Gladys and Willis of Winside came Fri day to attend funeral services for F. J. Knecht and visited at the Oscar Dill home. Sunday Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wagner of Ashland were Sunday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Rosencrans and boys. Afternoon Callers Mr. and Mrs. Merle Schwartz and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Tiern ary of Lincoln spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Carnicle. Mrs. James Wisz man and Mrs. Larry Carnicle were afternoon callers. Miss Elinor Fidler attended Rainbow Worthy Advisors and Grand Representatives break fast at Hotel Fcntenelle at Oma ha Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Speck mann and daughters of Colum bus and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Furerr of Yutan spent Wednes day with Mr. and Mrs. Leon ard Parrish and Leon. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Livers and family of Western, Mrs. Carl Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Livers and daughter of Ashland and Miss Verla Livers were Sun day supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Livers and Mrs. Jen nie. Livers. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Campbell spent Saturday overnight and were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Campbell at Lin coln. The Fairland Giants 4-H Beef Club met at the home of Ber nie Dill Sunday afternoon. The members and parents enjoyed a hay rack ride and sack lunch. H. Larson, registrar. Those enrolled include: Plattsmouth, Patricia Baily, Ruth Bruns, Yvonne Fuller, Shirley Hild, Marilyn Meisinger, Zella Shown, Margaret Toman, Elmwood, Viola Miller, Carolyn Sphon; Louisville, Claude John son; Avoca, Dean Moyer, Mary Jane Dickman; Weeping Water, James Fitzpatrick, Marilyn Rhodes, Union, Dorothy Trader. The regular session will close July 27, to be followed by a two-week post session from July 23 to August 11. During the post session, which will include three workshops, first aid and driver education courses, students may earn three hours of college credit.
