Dinner was served at noon and ice cream and cake in the afternoon. A nice crowd attend ed. Two new families in the dis trict were welecomed and all enjoyed getting acquainted. They were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grimm and children and Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Feede and children. The teacher, Mrs. Dibrell Bil lings has successfully complet ed her third year in District 53. Jones was a Thurs day overnight guest at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Jones and accompanied the fam ily to Murdoch that evening where they attended the High School and eighth grade gradua tion exercises at the school aud itorium. Evelyn Jones was one of the eighth grade graduates. They also attended the school picnic at the schoolhouse Friday. S.P. 3-C and Mrs. Harold Strode and little daughter, Vick ie Lou of El Paso Texas came Wednesday for a two weeks fur lough. They visited that evening with Mr. Strode 's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall and went to Mrs. Strode 's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dean in Memphis. Mr. Strode is a former South Ashland boy and since going into the service his parents and fam ily have moved to Belle vue, where they will also visit. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Bachman took Mrs. Bachman's mother, Mrs. Emma Jones to Baldwin City, Kans., Saturday where Jones will spend two weeks with another daughter, Mrs. R. V. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Laughlin and James, John Laughlin, Mrs. Roy Keller and Wayne Laugh lin attended the wedding of their nephew and cousin Gary Laugh lin and Miss Dixie Rabbs, at the Community Church in Ral ston Sunday afternoon. The Arthur Laughlin family and John Laughlin called at the Grafton and Vernon Laughlin homes, Porter Sellin home and Miss Ruth Fuller ton all in Oma ha, after the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Charley Franks of Utica, Mrs. Bernie Green of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Min nie Mason and Ervin Conn cf Greenwood were guests of Mrs. John Gustafson one day last week. Other callers were Mr. and Mrs. Gust Sorman and Jen nings of Omaha, Mrs. John B. Peterson and Mrs. Milton Bachman. Mother's Day Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heier were hosts at dinner for their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Heiers of Elmwood and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weston and Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bower had their families home for the day. They were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Grebe and Russell, Rex Bower and Miss Pat Jones of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bower and family and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Pollard and Kimberly Sue. . Another daughter, Mrs. Dwight Jameson, (Mary Lou) of Elsie was unable to be present, she called them on the telephone that morning. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grimm were Mrs. Grimm's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Gand reault, Mrs. Rose Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles and Terry. Air. Grimm's mother, Mrs. Holly Grimm went to visit her daughter, Carlyle in Omaha for the day. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dean and Mrs. W. P. Bailey were honored at dinner by Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Bailey. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dean, Marilyn, Sherry and Barbara. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arley Barger were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Barger and family of Springfield, Mr. and Mrs". R. J. Clark and family of Omaha. Aslo Mr. Barger's sister Hazle, Mrs. Ted Bergren and Mr. Ber gren of Omaha and friends from Millard who were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Laschansky and Mrs. Freda Funaberg. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Wescott of Lincoln were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Parrott. Mr. and Mrs. George Bornman had the pleasure of having their families home for the day. They were Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Bornman, Kathy, Judy and Cin dy of Omaha, Mi. and Mrs. Dar old Miller of Ceresco and Mr. and Mrs. George Bornman Jr., Ruth, Dennis and Bruce. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Roeber, John and Merry Sue joined Mrs. Roebers parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reister of Manley for a dinner at the home of Mrs. Roe bers sister, Mrs. Earl Puis, Mr. Puis, Ralph and Frank near Manley. Weekend Visitors Mr. and Mrs? Lloyd DeFreece and family of Cairo and Mr. and Mrs. Willis James and family of Grand Island spent the week end with Mrs. DeFreeces' and Mrs. James' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan E. Armstrong and honored their mother by accom paning them to church Sunday morning. Mrs. Harold Kellogg, Joanne,' Ruth and Jim were among the relatives that helped Mrs. Kel loggs parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reuter of Alvo celebrate the day. Mrs. Keith Weston, Cindy and Carla went to Wahoo to spend the day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Schulz and fam ily, Mrs. Weston and daughters returned to the Carl Weston home that evening. Walradt spent Wed nesday with her daughter, Mrs. Milton Bachman. Mr., and Mrs. Verner Bachman were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Bachman. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wagner spent Sunday evening with Mrs. Wagner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bahm near Mem phis. They also visited with Mrs. Wagner's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest E. Bohm and son in Memphis. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Felker and family went to Plattsmouth Sunday evening where they were guests of Mrs. Felkers brother, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth William son. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kellogg, and family called on Mr. Kel loggs aunt, Miss Alice Kellogg in Alvo. Wednesday, they also called on Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rueter. Sunday evening the Kel logg family went to Eagle where they visited Mr. and Mrs. George Oberle. Mr. and Mrs. Arley Barger spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Omar Yardley. Mrs. Lillie Wagner cf Wahco spent Sunday night and Monday with her son, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wagner. She also called on her brother Louie Robbins at the nursing home in Ashland. Orville Sandy of Greenwood spent Tuesday evening wTith Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson. Mrs. Arthur Laughlin and James spent Monday afternoon with Mrs. George Harris and daughters in Lincoln. That eve ning she attended a personal shower for Miss Virginia Loas at the Henry Leikam home. SUPERSTITIOUS? An interesting item recently noticed was that workmen changing lightning rods on the Statue of Freedon atop the Cap itol Dome, 287 feet above the ground, decided to wait from Friday until Monday to do the job.
