Mrs. Ransford was absent due to the funeral of her husband's uncle, Fred Stumbo's at Lawerence, Hans. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ransford and Mr. and Mrs. Charley Scattergood attended, leaving Eagle early Tuesday morning returning home late Tuesday evening. nold's sister and family, the Robert Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Frye of Lincoln were also overnight guests at the Phillips home on Saturday eve ning. Mrs. Frye is another daughter of the Reynolds. On Sunday, the aboe folks were dinner guests at the Dwayne No vak home near Crete. The "O.S.C." Club members met at Mrs. William Weyer's home Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Daryl Lamb, high school instructor of Eagle Schools, was absent from her duties at school a few days last week having contacted the chicken-pox. Rudolph Oberie was able to return home from the hospital or. Thursday, having undergone surgery the previous Thursday. The Orris Lanning are antici pating a visit with Mrs. Lan ning's mother, Mrs. Lucy Ger hard and a sister and family, the Arthur Bivens of Wisconsin. They will trip to Nebraska to at tend the Eagle commencement at which time Gail Lanning will graduate. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Johnson of Syracuse visited Mr. John son's cousin, Mrs. O. E. Under wood and Mr. Underwood Wed nesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Sumner and daughter, Mrs. Eldro Pat ton and family of Elmwood call ed at the O. E. Underwood home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Under wood's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. William Pruessing of Lincoln called at the Underwood home Sunday evening. Jolly Feeders Plan a Picnic For June 3rd By Leonard Hild 4-H Reporter The Mynard Jolly Feeders Club held its monthly meeting recently at the home of Johnny Todd. The meeting uas called to or der by President Tom Kraeger, with 12 members present. The main business for the eve ning was deciding about the an nual picnic. It will be held on June 3 at Steinhart Park in Ne braska City together with the Mynard Merry Maids club. A demonstration was given by Herbert Kraeger on tieing knots in a rope. After the meeting was ad journed refreshments were serv ed by Mrs. Kenneth Todd. Leaves For Idaho Mrs. Clifford Anderson, Jr., and her mother, Mrs. R. H. Nor ris, left for Twin Falls, Idaho, last Monday with the former's car to join Mrs. Anderson's hus band, who has been assigned with the ball team for the sea son's practice. Airs. The Strawns have moved into their property re cently vacated by their tenants, who occupied the new home dur ing the Strawns employment and move to Alburqurque, New Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Allen of Omaha visited Mrs. Allen's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Morton last weekend. The Dorcas Society members met on Wednesday afternoon with Mmes. Morris Muenchau and Mervel Reed as co-hostess. IThe Lutheran aid of the Walton Church were guests for the aft- ernoon. Funeral Services Are Scheduled for William G. August NEHAWKA (Special) Fu neral services were held today for William Henry August at the Nehawka Methodist Church. Rev. Fred Gardner officiated. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mr. August died Saturday aft er an illness of two days. He was born June 20, 1887 at Hepburn, Iowa, the son of Har man and Susan August. He was married in Avoca to Effie Betts who died in 1942. Mr. August was a resident of Nehawka most of his life and was a member of the Nehawka Methodist Church. He leaves daughters, Mrs. An na, Moss of Nehawka, and Mrs. Gladys Ozanne of New York City; sons, Lloyd of Atchison, Kans., and William H., Jr., of Brush, Colo.; brothers, Albert of Fremont, and Earl of Laurel. Lerma Doeden played Taps. The chaplain offered a prayer. Fourteen members answered roll call. We were pleased to have two daughters of members present, namely, Marlys Doeden and Patty May. The secretary's report was given by Nora Ketel- hut and the treasurer's report by Hazel Porter. The card chair man gave a report on cards sent. Elsie Althouse read the legisla tive bulletin. Minnie Bird and Maxine Beach served a delicious lunch. Carrie Schmidt won the door prize . Hostesses for June will be Ler ma Doeden and Arlene Frohlich. More Town Talk Mrs. Vivian Wehrbein and Mrs. Irma Sullivan stayed through the entire session which started unofficially on Monday noon and ended Thursday night. Mrs. Wehr bein was a Grand Attendant and Mrs. Sullivan is a Dis trict Supervisor. Mr. and Mrs. O. Kenneth Paul and children Pamela and David, and Mr. Norman Hughson, all of Lincoln were Mother's Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Hughson and Mrs. Laura Mc Lain. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Mei singer, Miss Laura Meising er and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bierl and sons were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Miller of Oma ha. Mrs. Miller is a sister of Mr. Meisinger and Miss Laura Meisinger. Mrs. John E. Carmack is in St. Catherine's hospital. Mrs. Frank Rebal received a Mother's Day greeting by phone from her sen, Dr. Ronald Rebal of San Diego, Calif. Sunday. The Nehawka runners gath ered four and one-third points to tie Stapleton for 18th place in the Class D competition. There were 43 teams competing in this division. Another Cass high school was entered in the championships, but Alvo failed to score. Plattsmouth did not qualify to enter the events. Ashland scored two points to finish 30th in Class B. The Salem will become per manent flagship for the Com mander 6th Fleet, home-based at Villefranche, France. The cruiser is the first of her type to be assigned to a home port in the Mediterranean.
