Covered Dish Meal Is Enjoyed By Many From Sunday School Members of the First Metho dist Sunday School attended a family night covered dish dinner Wednesday evening. This was a planned activity for the families in observance of National Fam ily Week. Following the dinner, a pro gram was presented in the me morial room. Carol Davis sang "Bless This House" accompan ied by Mrs. Howard Davis: Sharon Miller and Sharon Dan iels sang a duet "He," accom panied by Patricia Smock; Maiy Wolhfarth and Jackie Zajic play ed a saxaphone duet; "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" was sung by Ilene Porter accompan ied by Carol Davis; Mrs. Paul Long gave a reading "Prayer For Parents"; Mrs. Glenn John son accompanied the junior choir singing "Just For Today" and Rev. Kiel showed a colored film "Life of Moses." Helping with the serving of dinner were Mrs. Fred Vincent, Mrs. Rhodes, Mrs. Harry White, Mrs. H. B. Perry, Mrs. Howard Wiles, Mrs. R. C. Humiston, Mrs M. M. Muncie, Mrs. R. B.' Kel ler and Mrs. William Heinrich. The dining room and tables were decorated with bouquets o f spring flowers. A Bridal Shower Honors Miss Martin A miscellaneous bridal shower honored Phyllis Martin, Platts mouth, recently at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Ralph Martin of Weeping Water. Eighteen relatives of the bride-to-be and the prospective bridegroom played bingo and were awarded traveling prizes. The honoree was seated at the gift table where she was assist ed in opening the gifts by Miss Peggy Stratton of Louisville. Assisting Mrs. Martin in serv ing refreshments were Mrs. Vir gie Stratton and Mrs. Deila Wade both of Weeping Water. Miss Martin will be married to Gary Williams of Pacific Jun ction, Iowa, June 2 at the Chris tian Church in Plattsmouth. . Large Attendance At Club Meeting Two visitors, Mrs. Clara Jor dan and Mrs. Bertha Gochenour, 20 members and 1Q children were present at the Social Work ers Flower Club at the home of Mrs. Kate Doud, Wednesday. Mrs. John Thomas, chairman conducted the business meeting. Mrs. Stanley Lepert and Mrs. Francis Olson conducted games that were played. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Clara Jordan, Mrs. Francis Kellison and Mrs. Orville Kahler. Next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Francis Kellison with Mrs. Myron Rice and Mrs. Emmett Rice co-hostesses. Refreshments were seryed by Mrs. Kate Doud and Mrs , Lenora Cook. Mrs. Lenora Cook. No definite date for the wedding has been set by the Couple. Mrs. L. W. Egenberger Is Seated As President of Women's Club Special to the Journal "Hawaii" was the theme for the annual banquet of the Platts mouth Woman's Club on Mon day evening. The event, closing the club's year, was held in the memorial room of the Methodist Church which had been transformed in to a tropical garden setting for the occasion. A truly Hawaiian welcome greeted each member and guest as brightly hued leis were given them on entering the banquet room. Approximately 50 were seated at tables beautifully ap pointed, carrying out the Island theme in the shell nut cups dec orated with tiny nosegays, and with miniature palm trees plac ed down the center of each ta ble. Tall white candles in silver candelabra were encircled with floral wreaths on which vari-col-ored butterflies were placed. The program Rovers were designed as pineapples. At each place setting was a Vanda orchid. Miss Muenchau, retiring president and Mrs. L. W. Egenberger, president elect, were presented orchid corsages. Mrs. Ollie Attebery and Mrs. Alice Rea Lipscomb wore vanda orchid leis, gifts of the c 1 u b. The orchids were airmailed from Honolulu, courtesy of Maybeile Troop Gorder, a former Platts mouth resident. A menu provided the Lua of the evening and was served by girls of the church and prepar ed by members of the Naomi Circle of Women's Soceity of Christian Service, Mrs. R. C. Humiston, chairman. The program opened with "Aloha," a welcome by Toast mistress Mrs. A. W. Propst. Mrs. W. F. Evers cave the in vocation. Guests and members were welcomed by Miss Lillie Muenchau, president. Janice Wiles presented Suz anne Solomon in "Little Brown Gal" with Mrs. Chet Wiles at the piano. Jeanine Newton pre sented Linda Henry, Debbie Kalasek, Susan Rouse and Kathy Holz in "Little Grass Shack" with Margaret Eiting, accom panist. The girls all were attir ed in colorful Hawaiian cos tumes, adding a native touch to the program. Mrs. L. B. Dalton gave high lights of the National Federated Women's Club convention in Omaha last April, Speaker for the evening was Alice Rea Lipscomb, daughter of Mrs. F. I. Rea. Mrs. Lip-j scomo, recently arrived from over a years residence at Barb ers Point on the island of Ohau, where her husband was station ed, told of her impressions of life there and displayed many interesting articles native to Ha waii. During her talk which she entitled "Hawaii Calling," styles from the Island were modeled by two club members, Mrs. F. I. Rea and Mrs. William Wool cott. Miss Muenchau gave a sum mary of accomplishments of the past year. Installation of officers closed the evenings program with Mrs. Ollie Attebery, as installing of ficer. Mrs. Egenberger responded, thanking the club for the honor bestowed upon her and asking cooperation of all for the coming year. Mrs. W. L. Heinrich, in behalf of the members gave a past presidents pin to Miss Muenchau, and ask ed past presidents Mrs. Mollie C. Gobelman. Mrs. R. B. Keller, Mrs. J. G. McMaken, Mrs. F. I. Rea and Mrs. William Woolcott to stand, expressed appreciation to her for guiding the club dur ing the past year and thanked her for the success which mark ed her regime. 4 All joined in singing Aloha Oe, with Mrs. E. C. Giles at the piano. Honored guests were of ficers of first district, Mrs. Ol lie Attebery, first vice-president: Mrs. Orville Nielsen, second vice president; Mrs. L. A. Ama to, county vice president. Other guests of the club were Mrs. Don Wall, junior president and Mrs. Gordon Wasson, president elect. Mrs. Sue Pankonin of Lou isville, county president, sent re grets. Several guests of individ ual members enjoyed the ban quet also. Members of this committee were Mrs. J. G. McMaken, chairman, Mrs. R. B. Keller and Mrs. G. G. Griffin, Mrs. K. W. Grosshans, Mrs. Marvin Brown and Mrs. H. C. Tiekotter. The year bock and music committees were in charge of the program. Mrs. E. C. Giles is chairman of Music. Other members on her committee are Mrs. R. W. Knorr and Mrs. J. A. Capwell. Mrs. W. L. Heinrich of the year book committee was assisted in planning the program by Mrs. William Woolcott, Mrs. A. W. Propst. Mrs. J. B. Cook and Mrs. Joe Zastera complete this committee. Installed Officers Central School Parent Teach ers Association officers for the ensuing year were installed at the regular monthly meeting Monday evening at the school auditorium. The new officers are Presi dent Mrs. Wayne Gorton; Vice President, Al Hansen; -Treasurer, Nancy Darrah; Secretary, Mrs. Ray Story and Mrs. Marie Lagerstrom council member. Helen Neddenreip was the in stalling officer. Due to the absence of Al Han sen and Fred Fischer, Marilyn Lutz conducted the short bus iness meeting. A summer rec reation program was discussed. Final arrangements will be an nounced later. Following the business meet ing Miss Neddenreip introduced Jeanine Newton who presented some of her pupils in dance rou tines. First grade was awarded the attendance tanner. The second grade held the banner the great est length of time during the school term. Mrs. Babbitt, sec ond grade teacher, took the class to the Dairy Queen for the treats earned. Refreshments were served by a group of. first grade mothers. The school board of Platts mouth were also present for the refreshment time. John Alexon Family Has A Get-Together A family get together for Mother's day at the home of Mrs. John Alexon included Mr. and Mrs. Tinus Bomberg and Elna, Mr. and Mrs. Ivar Bom berg and Stephen, Mr. and Mrs! Chet Lagerstrom and family, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Alexon and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Por ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Meisinger and family, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Diekmann and family, Andy Alexon, all of Plattsmouth and Mrs. Myrtle McFarland of Kansas. A covered dish picnic lunch was enjoyed by all those pres ent. Engagement Told Of Shirley Sudduth 4 Shirley Sudduth Mr. and Mrs. Otis Sudduth of Plattsmouth . announce the en gagement of their daughter, Shirley, to Bob Carr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carr of Platts mouth. Miss Sudduth is a graduate this year of Plattsmouth High School. Mr. Carr is a student of Uni versity of Colorado, Boulder, Colo. No date has been set for the wedding. The Adkins family visited at the Earl Redd home and -Mrs. Lushinsky visited her mother, Mrs. Edwards. Friday evening a wiener roast in the backyard of the Redd home was enjoyed by 30 guests honoring the Colorado visitors. The former Plattsmouth res idents departed for their home Sunday. Mrs. F. G. Egenberger and daughter, Mrs. T. L. Rogers of Long Beach, Calif, arrived in Plattsmouth Sunday morning and are visiting relatives and friends. Mrs. Egenberger is a sister of John Carmack. Methodist Church Has Childen's Day With Many Attending The First Methodist Church held the annual Children's Day services May 6. The church was decorated in a profusion of flow ers shared by the Kalasek Cooper and Glaze - Thomason weddings. Appearing on the program were members of all the Sunday School classes and reception of new members by Rev. Erwin Kiel, pastor. Organist was Miss Mildred Hall; choir director, Mrs. James Keith, and Sunday School super intendent, Mrs. J. B. Cook,. The high school department intro duction was given by Captain Garrison.
