News of Elmwood and Vicinity 1Mb ru k2 By Mrs. Dudley Leavitt Tel. 42447 ELMWOOD (Special) The Elmwood Senior Class of 1956 presented its play at the com munity building in Elmwood Friday to a well filled house. Mumbo-Jumbo, a mystery farce in three acts was directed by Supt. Clarence Souchek. The action of the entire play takes place in the liv ing room of Cherry Tree Farm, the summer home of the Reynold's in New Eng land. The time is June.' The characters, Mrs. Sarah Reynolds- (Shara Doeble) and John, her husband (Charles Nickel) are about to start on a vacation trip in the opening act a? their son Dick Reynolds (Dave Godbey) appears from college, with his pal, Pee Wee Smith (Duan'e Ahrens) much to the surprise of his parents. They go on their trip any way, and leave the son to take care of the home. They are both without money and plan to obtain some by rent ing some, rooms to passers by. With the help of Tweety, a hired girl, (Joyce . Miller) they succeed in gathering a varied type of guests. Honahan, a state policeman (Dale Lannin) calls for the ar rest of Dick for driving with out a permit. Harold Custer, a very polite young man (Ron Abrams), and Mrs. Custer, his aged mother (Marilyn Menden hall) and Mr. Peter Beamish, a blind man (Donna Miller) come to stay because of a thundr storm. Doctor Gaza Omahandra a west Indian mystic (Nor man Brockhoff) and Kay Samedi, his ward, (Carolyn Spohn) also arrive. Madame Corn Celesta, a native witch wo- H man, (Mary Jucka) are al so in' their party. Peaches Greeding, a chorus girl, (Sharon Phillips) is the first victim of the Mumbo-Jumbo "death charm." The guests call for the police, and Lem Marblehead, sheriff of Milburn, (Elmer Mueller), . and Miss Emma Burpee, sheriff of Hope County, (Jean Bornemeir) arrives with her then year-old daughter, "Daisy," played by Marilyn Laughlin. Daisy in her childish investigations unearths the clues that help solve , the murders. The entire cast was very capably portrayed. Dave Godbey had quite a part, but his memory served him well as he made no hesita tion between action. The character parts were well rendered. The Senior Girls Triple Trio sang "Moonlight Bay" during intermission. Sound effects were produced by Duane Krecklow and Royal Halverson. Ushers were Jerry Backemeyer, Bob Rueter, Bob Hall, Sandra Drake, Betty Drake and Sharon Ab rams, all juniors. Supt. Soucheck evidently gave many hours of his time to this production to obtain the re sults given. Coach Marvin Greenwood and Miss Jo Ann Hagemeister contributed to the make-up and received the thanks of the director for their cooperation.
