Hears Prison Bands Again ALVO The Parent-Teachers Association held a benefit dance and card party March 3 in the Alyo gymnasium. The western band irom the Men's Reform atory, who were guest musicians at a Jan. 19 P-T. A. meeting, made their second ' appearance along with the dance band. Four members of the brass section were from the state peniten tiary. These bands are a part of a rehabilitation program set up by the reformatory's new head, Supt. Robert Nichols. High prize for pinochle went to Mrs. Ellis Mickle and Mr. Wayne Kinney. Another prize went to Wayne Kinney and Ellis Mickle. , Fairview Womens All Day Meeting . On March 8 at 10 o'clock the members of the Plattsmouth Fairview Women's Club met at the home of Mrs. Louis Wag ner for an all day meeting. The assistant hostesses were Mrs. John Terryberry and Mrs. Rich ard Livingston. ' The noonmeal was made up of the food in the lesson "Freez ing Cooked and Prepared Foods". The lesson was given by Mrs. Albert Ulrich and Mrs. Richard Livingston. It consisted of the freezing of cooked and prepared foods, their packaging, different types of containers and the many possibilities of our home freezers. Mrs. Eugene Mei- bers, was served. sineer. citizenship chairman, re newed the many historical events that have occured during the month of March. During the day the members stuffed the envelopes for the Crippled Children Drive. The drive for funds will be opened officially on March 10, 1955. . The layettes made by the club members are now ready to be delivered to the University Hos pital' of Omaha. The annual bake sale will be held at the Hardware. Next meeting ; will be with Mrs. Herman Hennings. Assist ant 'hostesses will, be Mrs. Oli ver Meisinger and Mrs. Jake Tritsch. The date is April 12. Lesson to be "Accessories". , The afternoon was brought to a close with assistant hostesses serving a frozen angel food cake dessert. Mrs. Walling Holds Open House In Calif. For Denver Guests A gathering of former Platts mouth folks was held recently at the Los Angeles, Calif., home of - Mrs. Katie McIIugh Walling when she held open house in honor of Mrs. Frank Schlater and Mrs. Mildred Schlater Lucy, wjio now live in Denver. Underwood and Mrs. William Malone presenting the lesson. Comparison of the un frozen and frozen foods was made. Next meeting will be at Mrs. Gump's home April 12. Eagle Mrs, Albert Schwegman ac companied her brother, Roy Karnopp and family to Alemena, Kan., last Tuesday and attended the funeral services of another brother. They returned home late Tuesday. Mrs. Floyd Althtouse substi tuted in the 3rd and 4th grade Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Harold Wall. Mr. and Mrs. Wall attended the funeral services of Mrs. Wall's relative at Papillion. Goldenrod Study Makes Donations - Goldenrod Study,' Club held its regular monthly meeting March 8 and .voted to donate $5 to the Red Cross and $2 to the Diabetic Camp. The Thursday meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Charles Spangler in Murray with Mrs. Guy Wiles and Mrs. Chester Wiles assisting. Mrs. James Cook, president, called the meeting to order, and group singing followed accom panied by Mrs. Roy Cole. De votions were given by Mrs. How ard Wiles who used material f rom ;VImitatiJn of Christ.'V The Lord'ff prayer and club collect were .srepeated An unison. Mrs.'. Chester Jacobs and"Mrs. Roy Cole played a piano duet, and Mrs. Chester Wiles and Mrs. Charles Spangler sang a duet. Business of the day was pre sented to the club. Mrs. Charles Spangler was announced as the club's representative in the "Mrs. America Contest." All members brought eggs which will be given as the 'annual con tribution to the Nebraska Chil dren's Home . Mrs. Boyd Linder was intro duced to the group and showed beautiful slides . which she had taken while in Europe last sum mer. Many historic locations in England, Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy were greatly enjoyed by all. Much interest was aroused by the slides. Refreshments with a St. Pat rick Day theme were served 25 members, 3 guests and 3 chil dren. . Mrs. Lancaster Sunbonnet Hostess Mrs. Celia Lancaster was hostess to the Sunbonnet Garden Club, Thursday, March 8 at the home of Mrsi Earl Shanholtz. Twelve members, and two vis itors, Mrs. Lois Carr and Mrs. Jessie Moore were present. Mrs. Ida Patton, president opened the meeting with the Lords Prayer. Roll call was answered by "Early Garden Hints". A -short business meet ing was conducted. Mrs. Lancaster read one of her poems "Noah's Ark". Mrs. Lee Spry had the lesson "Gar den Gossip" and when to plant strawberries. Games were played and prizes awarded to M r s. Ethel Hen nings, Mrs. Lee Spry and Mrs. Lois Carr. Has Patriotic Meet Fontenelle Chapter, Daugh ters of the American Revolu tion met at the home of Mrs. Harvey Gamer with Miss Jessie Robertson as hostess. Meeting was opened with the Pledge to the Flag. The Chaplain, Miss Robertson, gave the Devotions, a poem by Bishop Cushman and a patriotic prayer. Mrs. Estelle McClusky, Regent, presided. Mrs. Zilpha Seward, program chairman, gave an in teresting talk on Washington at Valley Forge. Mrs. Gamer had a brief report on National Defense. Refreshments were served by the hostess. of the latter's son, Walter Buecher, and a Minnesota girl at Redwing on Thursday. They plan to.be home Saturday. C4 Donald Wulf at Ralston attend ea ine son conservation meet ings at Lincoln for three days last week. He was an overnight visitor at his parent's home, at night during the sessions. Mrs. A. H. Siekman was an overnight visitor at the home of her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Siekman, Thursday, evening and remained with her daughter-in-law, while the lat ter's husband and Mrs. Siek man's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddia Francke, attended a wed ding ceremony of Jerry Porter, at Valparaiso. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Porter. Mrs. Porter is the former Marquerite Francke of Eagle. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Berry and family of Peru visited at the home of their friends, Coach and Mrs. Floyd Gump and fam ily, last Tuesday evening. O n Sunday they visited at Glen wood, Iowa, and attended the baptismal services of the small son of Mr. and Mrs. Berry. Both Mr. and Mrs. Berry attend college at Peru. Eagle Western Trip Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph 4 Wulf went to Indio Calif., by tram from Kansas City routed to El Paso, Texas, along the Merican border to visit their daughter and family, the Rev. Paul Schmidt's. Indio is situated in the Coa chella valley, a beautiful place of Date Palms, grapefruit' and tangarine trees. They also grow cotton plants. They reported, "While we were at Indio, they were, having their annual Date Festival, which we attended." "We had . never seen camel races, so of course, was a thrill. The riders were dressed in Ara bian Costumes. We went to Palm Springs and saw Bing Crosby's home and h is Blue Skies Motel. The area about his home is police controlled, so persons can't drive too close. We were in Indio 'about ten days, there took the coast line trip to Walnut Creek, Calif., where we visited an aunt, Mrs. Mary Gerke. Walnut Creek is located just across the bay from San Fancisco. We crossed the bay by ferry. We visited at Oak land and continued north through Feather -River Canyon, and saw the flood area. It took us four, hours by train to go 120 miles. We saw hundreds of deer all along the way. On the route home," we came by "Salt Lake City through the 6.2 miles long Moffat tunnel and Denver, Colo, to Lincoln. ' Eagle Mrs. Laura West was hotess Arthur. ' Nelson accompanied his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Murl Miller, of Elm- wood to Lincoln where they joined another daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Anderson, of Waverly, and had dinner observing, the birthday of Mrs. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirch hoff called at the Floyd Siek man home last Sunday and in the afternooneveral other vis itors from Lincoln and Eagle, called. They were Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Floth, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ballance, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Snyder, Mrs. Kutz, Mr. and Mrs Carl Peters of Lincoln and Mr. and Mrs. William Trumble o f Eagle. Mrs. Siekman is recov ering from a liver infection satisfactorily. EagTe 20th Anniversary -. Several of the neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Frohlich helped celebrate their 29th wed ding anniversary by surprising them last , Monday evening. (Those present were Mr,, and Mrs. Valjean Stall and son, Alan Gene; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stall and Velene; Mr. and Mrs. Her man Kirchhoff, Keith Ayres and Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lanning. Mrs. Kirchhoff baked a cake, decorated with the traditional trimmings which was served with ice cream and coffee. Sev eral hands of cards were play ed. Mr. and Mrs. Frohlich re ceived several gifts. Randy Beins Notes 3rd Year Sunday afternoon a birthday party for Randy Beins of Weep ing Water was held at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beins of Plattsmouth. Those present to help Randy celebrate his third birth date were Renee Wilson, Glenn Gochenour of Plattsmouth and Lynn Beins of Cedar Creek. Other invited guests were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Beins, Randy's parents of Weeping Water, and Mrs. Fred Beins of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Don Beins, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gochenour and family.
