WAHOO A team that saw its scoring ace limited to five points, and had to exist on free throws in the last half of the game, fell before hot field shoot ing basketball team from Platta raouth here Friday night. Wahoo lost to Plattsmouth 57 to 49 as Al Biggerstaff, Wahoo's ace shooter, hit only five and the home team made 11 out of 14 free throw chances, in the second half to stay in conten tion, scoring only four field bas kets in the last half. Plattsmouth was hotter from the field than in any game this season, hiting 46 per cent in the first half and 36 in the last for an average cf 42 per cent for the game, at least 10 per centage points higher than in any game this year. And the Blue devils remain undefeated in the Ak-Sar-Ben conference, winning their fourth over Wahoo to lead the loop and heading fast toward the title with two games left. Tuesday night the Blue Devils are home against Falls City in a Twin Rivers Conference game. The Plattsmouth team has yet to win a game in Twin River play and if they stay hot, this could be No. 1. Coach John Adkins of the Blue Devils removed his onlv regular returning from last year, Denny Hirz, early in the game after he vicked up three quick fouls. Plattsmouth trail ed at the quarter 14-16, but Hirz' replacement, Sophomore Kenny Dasher, sent the Devils ahead with two fast fielders. Coach Adkins then removed Dasher for Larry Long in a search for height and made the right move Long and Dan Huebner controlled the back boards from there forward. The Devils pulled into a one point lead by the half; led by four points at the three-quarter mark, 43 to 39, and stretched that to six points before Wahoo's hammering with free throws tied up the score and sent Wa hoo ahead by three. Ed Egenberger. who was hit ting about every free shot he let go, hit two from the top of the free throw circle to send the Devils ahead and they stretched the winning margin to eight points. Dan Huebner led the Devils with 16 points. Erickson led Wahoo with 17. County Treasurer Alice Jayne McShane said that her office is not considering changing the method of giving out license plates, as Douglas county has. In that county business was so heavy it was planned to give the license applicant the next license number in series in stead of the one they had the year before. Mrs. McShane said that it will not be necessary in Cass county and the old license number will be issued if asked for. Last dav to received a motor vehicle license plate is the last day of this month, Feb. 29. All 1955 license plates will be delin quent on March 1. MURDOCK Basketball fans, who are waiting to see whether he Weeping Water Indians real- y have it, will have to wait until the second day of a tour nament here to find out. The Cass County Conference basketball tournament gets und er way at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Murdock gymnasium. The Pirates won 72 to 42 The Pirate varisity threw tough defense around Union scoring leader J. C. Draper and held him to six points in the first half. But, with the re serves playing in the last half, Draper, a freshman, poured in 20 points. Bob Hall led Pirate scoring with 18 points, followed by Dave Godbey. Pioneer Farm Families May Expect Award WEEPING WATER Pioneer Nebraska farm families are to be honored in a new awards program according to an an nouncement made jointly today by the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers and Ak-Sar-Ben, Omaha civic organization. Joe Bender of the Cass County Fair at Weeping Water, chair man of a three-man committee for the Fair Association, said the program, under co-sponsorship of the Association of Fair Managers and Ak-Sar-Ben, is to be named the "Nebraska Pio neer Farm Award." Other com mittee members are Louis Jep- peson, Hubbard, of the Dakota County Fair, and L. E. Watson, Humboldt, of the Richardson County Fair. Mr. Jeppeson originated the idea for the awards program and presented it to Jess L. Thur mond, chairman of the Ak-Sar-Ben Public Affairs Committee, who announced that the civic organization win cooperate m the presentation of awards to the honored families. The program, an annual event starting this year, will honor the owners and operators of every farm in Nebraska which has remained in the same fam ily for 100 years or longer. Recipients of the awards will received handsome, walnut-based plaques from Ak-Sar-Ben, and attractive certificates from the Association of Fair Manag ers. The awards will be pre sented at each recipient's county fair by representatives of A&-Sar-Ben and the county fairs. Mr. Bender said the officers of each county fair in the state Will be asked to check records to obtain a list of farms in each county which have been in the same families for 100 years or longer. Mrs. Earl Williams stayed at the Rich mond Eye Hospital with the three children cf the family Earl, Jr., 11 David 8, and Eliza beth, 4, who had just had their tonsils removed. Papa Williams went over to the animal hospital nearby to be vvith Danny, the family's 9-month-old collie pup, who also had his tonsils remov ed.
