Mrs. Margaret Lehman called on Mrs. Maude Barrow one day last week. Mrs. Barrow is a shut in and will have a birth day the last day of . the year, Dec. 31. She would be glad to hear from her friends. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Kupke and son, Bellevue, visited Sun day at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer. Jose phine Meyer, who 'works in Lin coln was also a guest. The Green Thumbers met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Har old Hanschild Thursday evening for a family Christmas party. There was a gift exchange. Mrs. Henry Buchholz came home Wednesday from Lincoln where she has been staying with the children while her sister, Mrs. Alvina Hagemeister, was at the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Stohl- man returned - home last week from a wedding trip after visit ing her sister in Michigan and a brother in Arkansas. They will live on a farm near Louisville , Elenor Marquardt returned home Thursday from St. Eliza beth hospital, Lincoln, where she had been almost two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Oleurine and children, Omaha, children visit ed Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Ella Gollner. Carl Zaiser was confined to his home with the flu several days last week. Miss Laura Fletcher, Eldoado Springs, Mo., is visiting at the Wilbur Fletcher home, son, Robert James, came home from the hospital Friday. Her mother, Mrs. F. Hefner, Syra cuse, has been helping at the home. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal have word from their son, John, that he has been promoted to RM 2C on the USS Bennington. He has been at Okinawa, Pearl Har bor and Japan. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wil son and sons moved to Omaha Sunday from the Carter farm. Pvt. Merlyn Minderman left Thursday from Omaha back to Camp Chaffee, Ark. - Miss Evelyn Frendenberg, who teaches at Pine school, - gave a Christmas program Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Emshoff and children arrived home Sun day from Tuscon, Ariz., where he was separated from the Air Force last week. They will live in the apartment of Mrs. Noerr linger. The womans Fellowship of the Congregational church met in the church parlors Thursday af ternoon was opened with a cov ered dish luncheon. Mrs. Walter Noerrlinger and Mrs. Ernest Norris were hostesses. Mrs. Les ter Heebner led the devotional period. A president was elected due to the resignation of Mrs. Henry Dankleff. Mrs. Earl Free man, vice-president, was named president and Miss Bertha Neu meister was elected as vice-president. After the meeting offic ers conducted several games. There was a gift exchange. First meeting of the New Year will be Jan. 12 with Mrs. Martha Ruge and Mrs; Calvin Carsten. Arnold ' Stohlman had his thumb badly cut when it was caught in a buzz saw Thursday. ' A total of 166 persons took ad vantage of the chest x-ray at the town hall Wednesday. .' Mrs. John A) Ruhge, Mrs. Er- vm Neumeister honored Mrs. John Compton at a pink and blue shower in the church par lors Wednesday, Avoca Catholic Guild - The Catholic Guild met with Mrs. Lewis Royal Tuesday. There was a food shower for Father McFadden and later a gift exchange. Father McFadden spoke on tne spiritual prepa- tion of Christmas. He also an nounced a high Mass 'Christmas Eve and Christmas Mass be ginning at 8 a.m. Plans are made for a Christmas party at the Guild hall Dec. 18. TEEN-AGE SHENANDOAH, Pa. For the past six months, a bank's com mittee on small loans, compos ed entirely of teen-agers, has been functioning at the Miners National Bank, with "amazing business acumen." The teen-agers grant loans of from $5 to $50 to other teen-agers from a $1,000 fund set aside for the pur pose by the bank. Of the 48 loans requested, 42 were approv ed in whole or in .part by the teen-agers. None has ever been defaulted. Mrs. Charles Edwards was brought home from the hospital Monday where she has been since she broke her arm. Alvo AlvoW.S.C.S. Alvo Woman's Society of Christian Service meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Grace Copple Dec. 7. The meeting was opened with a Christmas poem by President Helen Nickel. The minutes were read by Ruth Timblin, secretary. At the an nual bazaar and supper a total of $201 was made, including $5.50 worth of corsages for mis sions sold. Cards for fellowship of interecession were presented by Mrs. Deems. These are to be returned at the next meeting. Colored slides telling the story of the mission church at Gering were explained by Audrey Stroemer. It was voted to pay the postage to send used cloth ing to the mission. Vida Miller had the worship service based Christmas. Ruth Timblin had the lesson- The lunch commit mittee was Irene Kellogg, Vida Miler, Grace Copple and Anna Knapp. Alvo Callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brunkow last week were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gam blin, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brunkow, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Timblin, Bill Davis and Carl Sutton.
