Mr. and Mrs. Bornman took Ruthie home Sunday and they were dinner euests of Mr. and Mrs. George Bornman, Jr., and family at Eagle. , South Ashland ' Attend Shower Mrs. Ray Bower and Mrs. Ron ald Grebe attended a shower for Mrs. Keith Pollard in Lincoln Sunday afternoon. Sunday evef ning visitors at the Ray Bower home were Mr. arid Mrs. Chuck Porkorney and family and Roy Bower, all of Omaha. , bouth Ashland Birthday Party Lester Roeber, Ruthie and Jjm Kellogg all had birthdays this past week. Their mothers, Mrs. Leonard Roeber and Mrs. Harold Kellogg entertained at a wiener roast in their honor at the Roeber home Wednesday evening. Their guests were the schoolmates and teacher, Mrs. Chas. Heier of Dist.'34 and the Harold Kellogg family. Ice cream and birthday cakes were also served. Mrs. Dale Graver of Lincoln and Mrs. Rob ert Leesley. - The Friendly Neighbor Exten sion club ladies and their fam ilies held a wiener roast and. picnic at the State Fisheries Sunday. ; i Rain in Kansas Mr. and Mrs. Ivan E. Arm strong went to Haven, Kan., Sat urday and spent the week end with their, daughter, Mrs. Har old Shaw, Mr. Shaw and little sons. They returned home Mon day bringing Mrs. Shaw, Ivan and Lloyal home with them. En route home, they visited the Ei senhower home where the presi dent spent his boyhood days and the museum which had been built on the Eisenhower home stead at Abilene, Kan. Heavy rains fell in southern and cen tral Kansas while the Arm strongs were there. Haven re ceived four and one-half inches Saturday night. They drove through heavy rains almost all the way home. " The Armstrongs and Mrs. Shaw and sons had supper that evening with Mrs. Burdette Ben nett, John and Joe in Lincoln. South Ashland Junior Fairlanders The Junior Fairlanders Exten- i sion club will meet Tuesday, Oct. 1C at the home of Mrs. Ham Long. The club will obserre a tenth anniversary that day and it will be a special homecoming day for all former members. All oiesent members are urged to be present also. South Ashland Mrs. Kenneth Roeber and Mrs. Dewey Moore spent Friday, Sept. 30 at an all-day meeting at the home of Mrs. Fred Stock in Murdock where two demonstra tion lessons were given for fu ture meetings. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strode have sold their countrv home and bought another in Bellevue. They moved there this past i week. Their address is S08 W. Hopkins Drive. Mr. Strode has been working at Allied Chemical north of Plattsmouth for some time and this move to Bellevue will make him much closer to his work. South Ashland Mrs. Clarence Franzen , and family of Lincoln were Monday evening guests of her sister, Mrs. Henry Klipp, Mr. Klipp and La Vern. South Ashland Missionary League , The Luther Women's Mission ary League of zone one held a fall rally at Trinity Lutheran church north of Murdock Thurs day, There were 150 present from sixteen congregations, coming from Bellevue, Benson, Plattsmouth, Weeping Water, Louisville, Papillion, Murdock and from ten churches in Oma ha. There were ten pastors present.. Dr. Wilbur May, a missionary home on furlough from India, lectured and showed films from India. . v ., A covered dish dinner was served at noon. . - . " -r-South . Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bell of Green wood were also guests. John Roeber wTas 11 years old Oct. 5. His mother, Mrs. Ken neth Roeber, entertained the sixth grade boys of the Murdock school at a wiener roast and held a party at their home Sun day afternoon. Boys present were Douglas Williams, Gene Backemeyer, Ross Rikli, Jimmy Panska and Clayton Streich. Clayton was also 11 the same day, and John was a supper guest of his at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Streich near Murdock. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gade of Ashland were Sunday dinner guests at the George Gade home. In the afternoon the group went to Glenwood, Iowa, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Mark Har rington. Mrs. Harrington is an aunt to the Messrs. Gade. Mr. and Mrs. John B. Peter son and George Isaac attended the funeral of a relative, Tom Daniel, at Ft. Crook Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Long and family were among a group of relatives who attended a birth day dinner at the Jack Scholting home at Gretna Sunday honor ing Mr. Scnolting and son, Rog er South Ashland Attend Convention Harold Francis Kellogg, with a group of other F. F. A. boys, went to Kansas City Monday to attend a convention for the F. F. A. South Ashland Mrs. Ed Jipp and new baby daughter, Arlyss Ann, of Gretna are staying at the horns of Mrs. Jipp's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Parks. Sunday Mrs. Jipp and Mrs. Parks attended a shower at Gretna at the home of Mrs. Henry Schmidt given in honor of Mrs. Jipp and Arlyss Ann. Mr. and Mrs. Louie Pinkowski and daughter, Junie, and anoth er daughter, Mrs. Reuben Schultz and son, Paul, of Nap erville, 111., came Saturday for a visit with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Roeber and other relatives. Guests at the Elmer Hall home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Hall and family of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson of Louisville, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Hall of Wahoo, Mr. and Mrs. George Schneider of Valley and Mrs. Laura Webb and Patricia of Ash land. Mr. and Mrs. Orie Sowards, Marvin and Joanne were among a group of relatives at Sunday dinner at the J. E. Remaly home near Elmwood, given in honor of Mrs. Soward's and Mrs. Rem aly's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Klemme and Curtis of Big Springs. The Klemme family came back to Lincoln for the foctball game Saturday and re mained for Sunday. The Harold Kellogg family were guests at a family dinner at the Marion Kellogg home near Alvo Sunday given in honor of Robert Kellogg, who was home on furlough. He will leave for the east coast soon to go over seas. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mansfield spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Waugh at Valley. They also called at the Charles War ren home near Elkhorn. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles and Terry visited at the Eli Gaud reault home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grimm and family of Lincoln were also visiting there. Mr. .and Mrs. Oren Kolb went to Farragut, Iowa, Sunday and spent the day with Mr. Kolb's sister, Mrs. Mable Selby and sens. The other Kolb families were there too. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nickels and family of Plattsmouth were Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Moore and sons. The, Moore family spent Sunday at the Wayne Wiles home near Weeping Water. i' , South Ashland Keith Weston . returned to Camp Carson, Colo., Friday aft er two weeks on furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weston, and his wife and little daughters, who have also been at the Weston home. Mrs, Keith Weston, Cindy, and Carla re turned to the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schulz in Memphis Sunday. Mrs. Lena Groge and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Waterbury and Rob in, all of Manilla, Iowa; were Tuesday visitors at Mrs Groge's daughter, Mrs. Beryl Keetle, Mr. Keetle and family. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jones of Murdock spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Jones and sons. :Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Odell and family of Omaha spent Satur day with Mr. and. Mrs: E. E. Odell. They were celebrating the elder Mr. Odell's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stander and family went to Walnut, Iowa, Sunday where they spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Riley Buckmaster and Nancy. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Erickson and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Everett Erickson home near Greenwood. Wilbur Laughlin of Shenan doah, Iowa, spent Saturday aft ernoon at the John and Arthur Laughlin home. M.W TES Mrs. Mabelle Winn Phone 420 WSCS Celebrates 15th Anniversary The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service' observed their 15th anniversary with a guest day, silver tea at the church on 1 Wednesday, Oct. 5. Mrs. Harold Nickel presided and after a short business meeting, extend ed a welcome to the guests. Mrs. A. B. Stroemer gave a history of the ladies Aid which had its beginning in 1891 and was or ganized into the Woman's So ciety of Christian Service in 1940. She also gave a resume of the 15 years o fthe present or ganization. Mrs. Archie Miller, led in wor ship service which was a liter ary of Thansgiving. A vocal duet by Mrs. Ralph Knney and Mrs. Richard Deems, accompa nied by Mrs. Carl Sutton, was the special music. Past presi dents and charter members were recognized. Letters were read from Mrs. Bess Velde Shirley, El Cajon, Calif., the first president, and Mrs. Glen Dimmitt, a former president, who were unable to be present Mrs. Eldon Mendenhall, Elm wood district president, was presented with a corsage to mis sion. Mrs. Mendenhall gave an inspirational talk on the 15 years of growth. Mrs. Arthur Skinner, Mrs. Carl Sutton, Mrs. Clyde Johnson and- Mrs. Elmer Klyver were in charge of the social hour. Mrs. Harold Nickel and Mrs. Archie Miller presided at the tea. table which had as its centerpiece a birthday cake baked and decorated by Mrs Marion Kellogg with the em blem and colors of the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Mrs. Clarence Bucknell, a past president, was an out-of-town guest. Alvo 42nd Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weichel celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary Sunday by enter taining the following guest at dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dreumier, son and his girl friend from Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Leefer and son from Syyracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Howe and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Weichel and family. Alvo- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fairfield were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rueter and Elmer. In the afternoon all but Elmer attended the 60th wed ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Winkler at Eagle. Mrs. Art Klyver of Lincoln spent Friday afternoon with Mrs. Elmer Klyver. Evening guests were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sutton. Saturday night Mr. Carl Sutton and Mr. Elmer Klyver attended a hog sale at Syracuse. Mr. Sutton bought a hog. Mrs. Klyver stayed with Mrs- Sutton. Mrs. Wm. Davis, who has been in the hospital for a long time. came home and spent part of a weekend with Mr. Davis and children. She has to be in a wheel chair and can't walk. She went back to the hospital Sat urday night. Mrs. John Weichel and son, Jimmie, and Airs. Neal Swan son and baby, daughter drove to Beatrice Wednesday and at tended a party at the home of another sister, Mrs. Les Cubic. Mr. an Mrs. Robert Jensen, Sandy and' Randy, entertained at dinner Sunday honoring the birthday, of Mrs. Jensen's broth er, Lloyd Schuelke. Other guests were their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schuelke. His mother baked an angel food birthday cake. Saturday night, Ralph Winn and Lloyd Schuelke attended a show in Lincoln. Alvo Chccvcr Daughter Mrs. Mabelle Winn received word of a new great grand daughter, Terri Lynn, born to Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Cheever, Sept. 28. The Cheever's have a little son, Ricky. Alvo Mrs. Edith Braun, Mrs. Kin ney, and Mrs. Mabelle Winn at tended the 60th wedding anni versary of Mr. and Mrs. George Winkler at Eagle. Their child ren were all home for the oc casion. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stewart were Sunday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Campbell at Bennett.. Mr. Campbell's birthday was Saturday.
