THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Monday, October 10, 1955 Ladies Aid Hold Meetings at Church The Ladies Aid of the Christ Lutheran church met in the church parlors Wednesday for their August meeting, with Mrs. Hugo Meisinger nd Mrs. Her man Ilennings hostesses. Mrs. Verner Hild presented the devotionals. Program consisting of a piano duet by Carol and Sharon Davis, and a vocal quartet by Janet Friedrich, June Wagner, Ghirley Hild and Nancy Siemoneit was enjoyed by the group attending. Refreshments were served by the hostesses. The September meeting of the Ladies Aid was conducted on the 23th of September with Mrs. Franz Petereit and Mrs. Verner Hild as hostesses. Devotionals were given by Mrs. Glen Kraeger. Program under the direction of Mrs. Evelyn Franke was a Biblical quiz. Mrs. A. Lentz was awarded the prize. A duet by Donna, and Alan Steppat and a piano solo by Jeanean Hubble completed the entertainment. Luncheon was served by the hostesses. Meeting adjourned. Family Dinner For Col. Vallery Commissioner and Mrs. W. F. Nolte entertained at dinner Sun day at their country home hon oring their nephew, Col. Joy Val lery of the military service, ar tillery division whose destina tion is Korea. Thirty-two relatives were present for the reunion dinner. Kenneth Paul On their sec ond wedding anniversary and birthday of Mrs. Paul. , The dining table was attrac tively arranged with a lovely cake as a centerpiece. Mr. and Mrs. Paul and their children, Pamela Kathleen, and David Kenneth, who livs in Lin coln wTere week end guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh E. U. B. Ladies Hosts at Tea Members of the Ladies Md So ciety of the Mynard E. U. B. church were hostesses at a tea to the ladies of the Christ. Luth eran church and other invited guests Thursday, Oct. 6. The meeting was held in the Mynard church basement, with Mrs. Henry Hild, chairman. The program opened with scripture and prayer by Mrs. Melvin Shafer,. followed by an ortran and niano duet by Mrs. 'Robert Cole and Mrs. Roy Cole. Miss Janice Lancaster played a piano solo followed by a saxo phone solo by Linda Livingston, accompanied at the piano by her mother, Mrs. Towner Livingston. Mrs. Chester Wiles sang a solo, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Cole. Attorney Madge Garnett re viewed "What do Modern Wom en Believe" which concluded a most enjoyable program. . The tea table was attractively arranged with a fruit punch bowl filled with fall fruits and flowers, centered amid gold candles. Coffee, fancy cookies and open faced sandwiches were served. Mrs. Roy Cole, presi dent, "poured. Mrs. Wayne Dasher Elected President Oak Leaf Club Election of officers, marked the meeting c; the Oak Leaf Ex tension, club, held Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Gardner Hamilton. Club collect, club creed, and the pledge of allegiance was re peated in unison by the group with Mrs.- Hamilton, president conducting the business session. Plans for Home Ec. day at Lincoln on October 12 were com pleted. Mrs. Wayne Dasher was elect ed president, Mfs. Harold Ham ilton, vice president, Mrs. Earl Pay ton', 'Secretary, and Mrs. Edith Akesony treasurer. 4 Pennies for friendship were contributed by the group. Mrs. Earl , Payton, and Mrs. Clarence Akeson, were appoint ed leader for the next two meetings. Meeting adjourned and a so cial hour followed, with games played and prizes awarded. Refreshments were served by the hostess Mrs. Hamilton. BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Don Bocock of San Antonio, Texas, are parents of a son, weight, eight and half pounds, born, Oct. 5, 1S55. A. lodge met Wed nesday evening for their regular monthly meeting and social. Mrs. v Dale Stander was the hos tess of the evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Mills were entertained by the Tomahawk Carlson Seed Corn company with a dinner at the Pathfinder hotel in Fremont on Tuesday. More than a hundred dealers were present. The afternoon was spent with entertainment followed by a short business session. John Woods of Wabash passed away Tuesday following an ill ness of several wreeks. Services were held at the Hobson Funer al home in Weeping Water on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schluet er and Miss Esther Luetchens arrived home Wednesday eve ning from their trip to Ger many. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Harger and Stanley left Friday for Ken tucky to see their son, LaWayne, who is in the service there. Miss Edna Luetchens is tak ing care of Emma Shroeder, while the Harger family are on their trip. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wendt have as their guest this week, Mrs. Wendt's mother from Lincoln. , . Duane and Marlene Wilken took their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilken of Elm wood to South Dakota over the weekend. Left Friday and -returned home on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed McHugh had a house warming on Wednesday evening for supper. Evening was spent playing pinochle. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wendt attended the funeral of a friend at Grand island on Wednesday. Thursday evening . the Lions Club had a family picnic at the schoolhouse. The WSCS Society of the Trinity Lutheran ' church was hosts . to a zone meeting on Thursday. It being an all day meeting with a covered dish- at noon. About a hundred and fifty were in attendance. . Ed McHugh entered the Lin coln General hospital on Thurs day where he is in. traction for a. pinched nerve in his arm Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McHugh of Ogallala, came Wednesday and will visit with relatives un til the first of the week. A defendant told officers he fled from them at high speed because he didn't have a driver's license. He said he resisted arrest because he didn't want to go to jail and was is orderly at the precinct station because he was mad. The judge fined him $130 and 60 days in jail, nevertheless. The women ! will meet Tuesday morning rat the church to paint the walls and floor. A vote of thanks was given to George Meyer and son, Dick who made a general clean ing in back of the hall at Avo ca. Mrs. Leslie Behrns and chil dren wrere guests. The Next meeting, Nov. 1, will be at the home of Mrs. Ralph Meyer. Nehawka Mrs. Leslie Behrns accompa nied Mr. and Mrs. Francis Straub of Lincoln to Omaha Tuesday to take Mrs. Henry Straub and Mrs. Otto Kreifel of Nebraska City to the train. They went to Los Angeles to visit Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Glover. Nehawka Letter from Abroad Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal had a letter from their son, John Allen Royal, RM3, who is on his way around Cape Horn to San Diego, Calif. It was postmarked Uruguay. The next stop was to be Valparaiso, Chile. John is on the USS Bennington. Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. Ned Nutzman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Mayfield, Billy and Barbara at tended the Ak-Sar-Ben rodeo Saturday evening. . . George and Gilbert Kime have completed the harvesting of about 25 acres of corn on the creek bottom south of town. It made 100 bushels to the acre. The corn was picked early and dried because of the danger of the creek overflow in case of a bad storm. NehawRa Flower Club The Nehawka Flower club will meet at 2 p.m. Friday after noon, Oct. 14 at the home of Mrs. Lewis Royal. . Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Waldo were guests Sunday at the W. Waldo home at Louisville. They also called on Mrs. Roy "Waldo at Rest Haven home at Weeping Water. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond May field, Gary and Gene Of Gar land were guests Sunday eve ning at the Boyd Mayfield home. They stopped enroute to Peru where they took their son Ray mond Jr., to school. ' Nehawka ' Girl Scouts Meet ?The first fall meeting of the Girl Scouts was held Sept. 23 at the Methodist church. Linda Kearney was elected president; Cheryl Weik, vice-president; Bonnie Lacy, treasurer and Marlene Eaton news-reportjer. The girls will meet twice a month. The next meeting, Oct. 14, the girls .will bring a sack lunch and go for a hike. Their leader is Mrs. Elmer. Stoll. ; Nehawka yDan Hadley of Montrose, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Haith and family and Miss Ed na Haith of Springfield were guests Sunday at the Gerald Kime home. Mr. Hadley, George Kime, Mr. Haith and Gerald Kime have built a trap shoot at the Gerald Kime home. The family and friends are enjoy ing the use of it. Mrs. Robert Vought, Kansas City, Mo-, left Thursday for her home after spending two weeks with Mr, and Mrs. Ernest Kropp and Mrs. Sarah Kropp. Recent guests at the Harold Wilis home were Mr. Scott Ran dell, Mrs. Bonita Cordell and Judy, Nebraska City; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Willis, Union; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Ingram, Miss Marvina Leslie, Omaha, and David Noell, Dunbar. Mrs. George Bischof of Ne braska City was introduced as guest speaker at a Nehawka Wo men's cub meeting at the home of Mrs. Alvin McReynolds Fri day afternoon. Mrs. Bischof gave and interesting report on her trip to Germany, Holland, Bel gium, Italy, Switzerland, Ire land, Scotland and England. She had many pictures to illustrate places visited. Mrs. Bischof spent several days with Madame Mary Emmaunel at St. Bernard's con vent at Bonsecours, Belgium. She is a sister of Mrs. F. O. Sand. She was the guest of her daugh ter, Captain Margaret Bischof, an Air Force nurse stationed in Europe for several years. Mrs. Will Ost was program chairman. The new president, Mrs. Har vey Barkhurst, was in charge. Devotions were by Esther Barkhurst. Each member has been assigned a topic for roll call and many interesting ans wers were given. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Halvor sen and family went to Fair bury, last Sunday and visited Mrs. Halvorsen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Coatman and family and to see a new nephew, born to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Coatman at Fairbury. Mrs- Kenneth Trunkenbolz visited a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. Don Hill, who had undergone surgery at the Bryan Memorial hospital on last Wednesday. Eagle Eagle Girl Chosen Miss Helen Wenzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wenzel, has become a member of the Alphan Society at Cottey Col lege in Nevada, Mo., having en tered the college this fall as freshman. She was graduated from the Eagle schools last spring. Eagle Mrs. Robert Walker lias ueen ill at her home and unable to contnue her employment, at Lincoln during the last week. However she is much improved and hopes to assume her duties next Monday. , " Eaelc Althouse Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Albert Munn and family of Waverly, visited Mrs. .Munn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Althouse last Tues dya evenng. The former's daughter had been quite ill, but, after sometime is now much im proved and was able to enjoy the visit. On this last Wednes day evening, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Althouse visited at the Albert Munn home and granddaugh ter is continuing improvement in health. Eagle The Trinity Lutheran Aid members met Thursday after noon at the home of Mrs. Car rie Schmidt. The Emmanual Lutheran Dor cas Society met at the church Wednesday afternoon with Mmes. Carrie and Barbara Schwegman as co-hostesses. Friends of Mrs. Paul Chides tu of Lincoln received word re cently that she had undergone major surgery at the Bryan Me morial hospital in Lincoln. Her husband,' underwent surgery a few months ago. They are form er Eagle residents. Eagle ' Mrs. Joe Pritthett and family, sister of Mrs. Lawerence Wey ers, is staying at her home while her husband is employed with a construction company. A baby 'girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Pritthett, the first girl in the family. Schreiner Drug E AS Eagle WSCS Meets The members of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church and a few visitors, met at the church Wed neday afternoon with 32 in at tendance. The meeting was call ed to order by the president, Mrs. Laura West. Devotions were led by Luella Fischer and the lesson pertaining . to "Indian-Americans," was conduct ed by Mary Ronhoode. A panel was used to answer the interest ing questions. Those participat ing were, Effie Ruth Richards, Althea Henricksen, Enola Ers kine and Olive Westlake. The business meeting was conducted by the president with the usual reports from each officer and also those attending the Sem inan meeting at Lincoln: Those attending from Eagle were Mmes. Laura West, Gertrude Pitzer, Lotta Jackson, Olive Westlake and Laura Lanning. Luella Fischer attended part of the day. Next meeting will be Nov. 2 with Lotta Jackson eading the devotionals, and Effie Ruth Richards, conducting the lesson, co-hostesses will be Hallie Stew art and Flossie Trumble. Eagle Farm Bureau Unit Mrs. Elmer Umlund, Mrs. An nabelle Althouse and Mrs. Enola Erskine attended the Tipton Unit of the Farm Bureau, Wo men's division at the Alvo church recently. Mrs. Althouse is the present chairman for the Unit. On Thursday evening sev eral of the Eagle members plan to attend the Unit meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mor ris Robertson at Alvo. Election of officers will be hed. Eagle Albert Clemmons of Lincoln, former Eagle resident, recently returned to his home from the Bryan Memroial hospital. Mrs. Dudley Allen of Omaha, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Morton of Eagle, were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Earl and son, Gary, Sunday. All drove to Waverly, in the afternoon, and Mrs. Allen by bus, left for her home, after spending the weekend, with her parents. Vader cf Omaha has been visiting a couple of weeks at the home of his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. C E. Vader, and family. He returned home on Wednesday. Eagle South Dakota Trip Mr. and Mrs. George Rock enbach are on a trip to North Dakota visiting the Arthur Dopp family. Th3 Rockenbach's daughter. Donna and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stuttheit and family of Lincoln are staying at the parent's home and tending the chores while they are gone a few weeks. Eagle Mr .and Mrs. C. G. Anderson of Eagle and son, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Anderson, Jr., of Lin coln, visited at the John Stolz home at Elmwood, Wednesday evening, and had a feast, of home made ice cream, cake and coffee. Larry Walberg, visited the doctor last Thursday. He was relieved of the large cast for a "walking" cast on his broken leg. He's hoping to have this re moved and be able to join the team for the basketball season. On last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Vader and family and his father visiting from Omaha, went to Syracuse and visited Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Vader's daughter and family, the Mel vin Niemanns. Mrs. Niemann is the former Clarice Vader. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Reid of Unadilla, visited at the home of their nieces, Freda and Caro line Peitter last Tuesday eve ning. 8he guests continued to Lincoln later in the evening.
