THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI -WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE FOUR Section B Thursday, September 8, 1955 ZMrs. Ivan Armstrong Schools Begin Schools have begun the years work again. Districts 34 and 58 last week and District 82 the first of this week. Mrs. Charles Heier, the former Miss Betty Weston, is the new teacher, in District 34, with 12 pupils, one a 1 beginner, Larry Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schneider. There are no pupils in the 5th and 8th grades in this school. The school room was improv ed by having a new asphalt floor laid this cummer. Mrs. Dibrell Billings began her third year in District 58, with eight pupils. The beginners are Mary Reinke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Reinke and Jimmy Bond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bond. In District 82, Mrs. Frank Hrodsky began her seventh year as teacher. There are ten pupils there, no beginners. The school house was given a new coat of paint this summer. District 43 has oeen consoli dated with the Murdock village school. Pupils going from Dis trict 43 are John Earl, Carl and Tommy Jones, sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Jones; Evelyn, Mar jorie and Dicky Jones, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clin ton Jones; Bobby, Linda and Sal ly Long, children of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Long. Sally is a be ginner. Sara Humston, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Humston. Michael and Lynn Humston and Edgar Jones are high school students from Dis trict 34. Three of our local women are teaching in the Ash land school this year. They are Mrs. John B. Peterson, Mrs. Roy Stock and Mrs. Harry Farm er, Joyce Farmer and William and Robert will attend Ashland high this year and ride to school with their mother. Mrs. Herbel is the former Miss Rose Williams of ; Ashland. Mr. and Mrs. Herbel went to Harden, Montana, for the week end, where they visited Mr. Her bel's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Bird. South Ashland Blank Hills Trip Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keller ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clary of Garden City, Mo., to the Black Hills for a week va cation. They visited Mount Rushmore and the wind caves and went to Custer, S. D., where they visited Mrs. Keller's cous in and Mrs. Clary's aunt, Mrs. Margaret Fox, and son, Nova. Mrs. Fox and son were former Ashland residents, having left there1 50 years ago. She is quite well, despite her 88 years. When her guests arrived they found her baking pie. As the group returned home they drove through the Bad Lands and on to Sioux City, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zink. They returned home Tuesday. South Ashland Two Deaths Noted Death came to two of our former South Ashland residents this cast week. Mrs. Getrge Wallinger, mother of Mrs. Clar ence Wills and Victor Sowards, father of Bruce and One Sow ards, all residents in this com munity. South Ashland Mr. and Mrs- Carl Kupke spent Wednesday and Thursday with their daughter, Mrs. Hen ry Probst, Mr. Probst an Stev en at Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Lape of Larchwood, Iowa, were week end guests of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Lape. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson and Mrs. James Estes were Wednesday guests of Mr. and Mr.s Forest Estes in Lincoln. In the evening Mr. Nelson and Mr. Estes attended a ball game and Mrs. James Estes attended a shower given In honor of Iiliso Marcie Ortmeier. Sunday after noon Mr. and Mrs. Estes of Lincoln and Orville Sandy of Greenwood were guests at the Nelson home. Duane Nelson and Miss Ortmeier were Monday vis itors at the Nelson home. Mr. and Mrs. Lioya nanslem and Carol of Omaha, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jones near Murdock. All were Saturday evening visitors at the Bennett Bornman home. South Ashland 4-H Showing The' 4-H youth of this com munity made a good showing at the Cass County Fair at Weep ing Water and won several priz es. The winners were La Vern Klipp, Larry Roeber, Edgar and Marjorie Jones, Eugene and Gwendolyn Wills, Carylin and Kathrean Bond and Virginia Felker with their beeves, in poultry judging, John Roeber was a winner, the girls with their sewing and cooking were Sara Humston, Beverly Maack, Kathrean Bond, Virginia Felker, Kathy Bornman, Evelyn and Marjorie Jones,- Joanne and Ruth Kellog, Carol and Kath- Er'tha Dea'n Bailey. w? oH our congratulations to them This has meant a year of hard work. At Chey enne, they visited Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Bachman and Mrs. Bach man's mother, Mrs- Emma Jones. Mrs. Jones accompanied them on their return home and on the way they visited at the Lyndell Watson home at Scotts bluf f, where they found Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mansfield visiting At McGrew, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Orie Adcock and Mr. and Mrs. Cash Adcock and at Bridgeport they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Cave. - Mrs. Mildred Shannon, who was a former teacher in Fairland school, and Mr. and Mrs. Val Dugger. On the way out to Cheyenne, they spent two nights with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bricker at Elsie, who were form er South Ashland residents. South Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stander and family visited Mr. Stand ees sister, Mrs. Joe Barry and I family at Agnew. Sunday after noon, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Mil ler and family were Sunday eve ning visitors at the Stander home. Mrs. Cyril Wotipka and children spent Thursday after noon with Mrs. Stander and family. Mrs. John Maack visited with Mrs. A. L. Coad and Mrs. John Foley in Omaha Thursday af ternoon. Wayne Laughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Laughlin and James at tended the State Fair Sunday and were supper guests at the George Harris home in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. John Maack, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Maack and family and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Long and family also attended the Fair Sunday. Mr. an Mrs. Ralph Wagner spent Tuesday evening at the Ernest Bohm home in Memphis and Sunday evening at the El mer Wagner home near Ithaca. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stander of Weeping Water spent Wednes day evening with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles and Terry. Sunday the Wiles family, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Gaudreault, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Whitacre, Mrs. Rose Wag ner and Mr. and Mrs. Claude ; Wilson, went to Omaha, where tney were supper guesis oi mt. and Mrs. Roy Lindfield. South Ashland Colorado Trip Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weston and Eugene accompanied! by Mrs. Keith Weston and little daugh ters, Cindy and Carla, drove to Colorado Springs Friday and spent unth Monday at a cabin near Camp Carson, where Keitn Weston is stationed. Keith had a weekend leave and spent the time with his wife and little daughters and his parents. They also took some sight seeing trips from there. On their re turn home the Westons visited with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Weddell, and Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Weddell at Strasburg, Colorado. They arrived home Wednesday morning. Charles Heier had taken care of their farm chores dur ing their absence, - , South Ashland Mr. and Mrs. George Born man spent Friday at the George Bornman, Jr., home near Eagle Mr. and Mrs. Darold Miller of Ceresco were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Born man. - : Mrs. L. J. Walradt spent Thursday with her daughter, Mrs. Milton Bachman. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sandy of David City , were Thursday vis itors at .the Raymond Nelson home. Mr- and . Mrs. Ivan E. Arm strong spent Sunday evening with Mrs. Armstrong's sister, Mrs. Roy Everman, and Mr. Ev erman at Wann. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Roeber, John and Merry Sue, attended a family reunion of Mrs. Roeber's mothers' people, the Scheels at Immanuel Lutheran church Louisville Sunday. There were about 50 present South Ashland Family Picnic A family picnic was held at the State Fisheries, Sunday honoring Mr. and Mrs. , Cory Grover and daughter, Corlene, of Silverton.Ore. Others present were Mr. and Mrs- Richard Ole sen and Dick of Lincoln, Merna, Georgia and Dick Bachman of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Gus tave Woitzel, of Ashland, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woitzel. Joe and Jim. Mr. and Mrs. Woit zel and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Granger and daughter were guests at a picnic supper at the Richard Olesen home in Lin coln, Thursday. . South Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Simpson went to Omaha' Sun lay to visit Mrs. Simpson's little nephew, Billy Bridgeman at the hospital, where he is recovering from po jlio satisfactorily. He can be out I of the iron lung during the day. j Randy Bonebrake of Ashland ! spent a part of last week at the i Dewey Moore home. Wednesday evening the Moore family and Randy visited at - the Wayne Wiles home near Weeping Wa ter. Sunday afternoon and supper guests at the Moore home were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brannon and family of Lincoln and Mrand Mrs. Fred Rueter of Alvo. Troy Wiles was a Tuesday dinner guest of his son, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wiles- He had just returned from a vacation in Colgary, Canada. He returned by way of Billings, Mont., where he attended a colorful Indian rodeo. He traveled through the National Glacier Park. While in Canada he attended the Roberts camp meetings. Tuesday after noon the two Messrs Wiles visit ed Mrs. George Wiles, Sr., in Weeping Water. They found that he is improv ing slowly. Glendale Mr. and Mrs- Harold Hlavae and family were dinner guests at the Ray Maguier home near Ashland. Both families drove to Druno and visited at the Adolph Hlavae home and visited Har old's brother, Valeaian,, who received his discharge from the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ahl, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Meisinger, were dinner guests at the Harry Tig nea home in Plattsmouth, Sun day. - Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Stoehr, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stoehr attend ed the Kaufman family reun ion at Garfield Park in. Platts mouth, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brownie and son of Ralston, were supper guests at the Maurice Group home. Sunday evening callers were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wendt of Murdock. Mr. and Mrs. Ray t-arcell of Elmwood, called at the Ervin Albert home Thursday evening to bring Ray home after spend ing a few days with them. Mrs. Elmer Stoehr and Mrs.; Geo. Stoehr called at the Vic tor Stoehr home Thursday af ternoon. Greg, Kevin and Gayle Moran of Ralston, spent several days at the home of their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Group, while their parents were on vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gauer and Carol of Omaha were supper guests at the Floyd Gauer home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Beauford Gauer infeard and son of Plattsmouth; spent Monday, at the Arthur Derby home. Miss Kay Andrews was a Sunday visitor at the Derby home. Mrs. Ervm Albert and . Kay shopped in Omaha Wednesday. ' Glendale Mrs. Marion Sutton, who has been ill for some time was taken back to the St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City last week. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sprieck and family and Judy Heil visit ed at the Wright home in Springfield, Tuesday evening to say goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heim and family as they left Wednesday morning for their home in California. Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Schroeder and family of Syracuse visited Sunday afternoon at the Tom Tenant home. were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richards from Friday until Sunday forenoon.
