Mrs. Robert Schlichtemeier and sons were guests for several days the past week of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Budin of Clarkson, Neb. Her mother, Mrs. Budin, returned home with them, and stayed until Satur day. The report that wheat in that area is badly fired. Dr. Ellis Schlichtemeier, Spen cer, la., was a guest Saturday of his mother and attended the alumni banquet. Nehawka ; Girls Scout Picnic " The Girl, Scouts and Brownies had a picnic at the Tucker park Tuesdays afternoon. - They will discontinue their, meetings for the summer months. Their lead ers are Mrs. 'Elmer Stoll and Mrs. Jack Lindsey. The Scouts have just completed their first aid course under the direction of Miss Esther Barkhurst. Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. . Emmitt Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. Rose Redden, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Redden, Mrs. Jesse Nichols, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nixon attended funeral services Monday afternoon for Mr. Gor don Smith at the Crosby-Kunold funeral home in Omaha. Mr. Smith,55, passed away Saturday in an Omaha hospital. Mrs. Smith is Mrs. Emmitt Hicks sis ter. . .Mrs. Josephine St. John and Leonard, Mrs. Ruth B. They brought the traveling em blem to the Nehawka lodge and presented it in an impressive ceremony. Plans were made for a joint meeting with the Odd Fellows on June 12 for all branches of the order. Mrs. Ce leste Kauffman of Cozad, state assembly vice president will be a guest at the next meeting, June 2. Mrs. Will Ost served refreshments. Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Joerger of Moses Lake, Wash., were guests Tuesday at the Floyd Joerger home. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Joe ger took them to Omaha to the train. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moore and family of Union, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford O'Connor and daugh ters were supper guests Sunday at the Matt Midkiff home. Mrs. Cooper Hunt and -daughters, Sandy and Peggy of Oma ha were guests Saturday after noon at the Kent Balfour home. The Hunts are former Nehawka residents. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Haupt and son, Nebraska City, were guests Sunday evening. Mrs. George Sheldon attended the Delta Delta Delta state luncheon Saturday at the Oma ha country club. Many relatives and friends of this community attended the Schanot-Wander wedding a t Union Sunday. Nehawka Mrs. Oan Kunkel accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wilson of Nebraska City to Shickely Sun day to attend the rededication of the remodeled Methodist church. The late Rev. Kunkel was pastor there for three years. Mrs. Kunkel reported that it was very dry in that area and wheat and oats had turned yellow, the pastures were dry. Nehawka Memorial Day Plans Memorial services will be held at the Methodist church at 9:45 a.m. Sunday May 29. Rev Fred Gardner of the Methodist church and Rev. Melvin Shafer of the United Brethren church will be the spsakers. A service at the cemetery will follow. Sun day school will be at the church at the regular time, 10:25. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. The welcome was by Lawrence Gregg and the response by Mar vin Edmonds. The speaker was James Levitt of Peru State col lege. Mayor Attest:. . r- Albert Olson ; ; , City Clerk No. 2847 May 26, 1955 VILLAGE BOARD MEETING Elmwood, Nebraska The members of the Village Board as elected at the last reg ular Village Election met in special session-for the purpose of organization with the follow ing members present: Harry Ar nold, Frank Turner, Roy Arm strong and Omar Bornemeier. . The Board proceeded to or ganize as follows: A temporary chairman was appointed and proceeded to the election of a premanent chairman. Mr. Roy Armstrong was elected perman ent chairman then proceeded Trustees. The Chairman then proceeded to read the resignation of Charles Finley, a member of the Board of Trustees to take ef' feet immediately. On motion with a second the board voted to accept the resignation, where upon the Chairman of the Board declared the office vacant. It was moved and seconded, and .the motion unanimously carried that Opal Shreve be ap pointed to fill the vacancy on the board created by the resig nation of Mr. Finley. All members of the board were sworn in on their oath of office before a Notary Public. It was moved and seconded that Harry Arnold be elected as Village Clerk, and Opal Shreve be elected as Village treasurer for the ensuing year. Motion carried. He was sent for some lumber and he kept on going. He started hitchhiking and the driver of a passing car Westmoreland Police Chief Jack Farley gave, him a lift, right back to jail. NO PEACE FOR DINER Denver, Colo. Robert C. Gingles, 23, was busily eating his lunch in a cafe, when a driver less automobile smashed through the wall and knocked him out of the booth. He was hospitalized. Police said a truck trying to avert a collision with another car, smashed into the parked car and sent it hurtling through the wall.
