His wne remained here and later new to Newfoundland, and left the baby with relatives. She re cently arrived by plane to get the baby and visited at the ! Beach home and with relatives t in Lincoln. ! Mrs. Hallie Stewart is able to walk some, without the cane or walker, lately. However, her Knee causes her considerable pain from the recent surgery, complicated with artntis con cation. Mr. Leidig is a brother of Mesdames D. F. and Fred Schwegman and the latter, are twin brothers. i Miss Yvonne Umland of Lin coln, daughter of Mr. and Mrs., Rudolph Umland was an over night visitor at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Rockenbach last Monday eve ning and attended the Eagle commencement exercise. The former's cousin, Judy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rocken bach, was an 8th grade gradu ate. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rudolph of Malcolm, visited at the Henry Umland home a short time on Monday evening, honoring the graduation of the former's nep hew, Lowell Umland. Miss Marie Douglan of Lin coln, called at the John Fischer home, Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Anderson of Midwest Wyoming, visited "at the former's brothers home, on Wednesday afternoon and in the evening, Mr. Harry Anderson of Lincoln, father of the former and Clifford,, and latter's son, Richard Anderson and family of Lincoln spent the evening to gether. The former and wife were overnight visitors at the brothers home. Ida., to be with her husband, who is playing with the Chicago Cubs Class C baseball team there. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Trunk enbolz and family visited Tues day evening in Lincoln at the Donald Hill home, the parents of Mrs. Trunkenbolz, and en joyed a visit with Mrs. Weznand son Don of Colorado, who are visiting in Nebraska with the Hill relatives. Eatrle School Picnics On Wednesday school busses were tripping here and there, and the seats were filled with school children to different pic nic locations. Kindergarten to fourth, grade went to Mrs. Stewart's pasture, near the school house; 5th through 8th grade went to John Ronhoode's pasture; High school classes went to Clyde Wenzel pasture. Eag;e Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rocken bach visited in Lincoln last Sun day with their daughter Elsie and family, he Rudolph Umland family and spent the afternoon driving in the car viewing the different areas close to town. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mailer of Omaha, visited in Eagle last Monday and attended the com mencement exercise of the lat ter's nephew, Richard "Dick" Weyers in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Palmer are visited auite frequently by their sons, Charles and Raymond of Lincoln. Both have been quite ill all winter and spring. They are some improved, we are glad to report. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker are looking forward to a few days visit with her sister and family from Northern part of the state this week. Mrs. Teresa Burdick of Palmy ra, formerly of Eagle visited at the home of her brother, Mr. Joe Rudolph, Friday. Mrs. Irvin Stall" and Nora and Mrs. Mary Lanning went visit ing Thursday, and spent the day with relatives of each, near Palmyra. They took it to a secluded spot in the woods where they found it was empty. Mrs. Curly Beeson and daugh ter of Oklahoma City came last Thursday to spend two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brummer and other rela tives. Mrs. Alvin Klemme and chil dren went to Holstein last Sun day to spend a week or so with her parents. Mrs. Herman Wendt gave a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening for her niece, Miss Heil, who is being married soon. The R. N. A. Lodge gave a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Albert Thiel, for Margaret Thiel, who will be married June 15th. The Lions Club and their fam ilies enioved a picnic at the school house on Thursday eve nine. Memorial services will be held at the Callahan cemetery on May 29th at 2:30 with Rev. Mar vin Herrick of Lincoln as the speaker. Eight or nine neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Borland went in last Wednesday and planted about a hundred acres of corn for him. Mr. Borland recently underwent major surgery. Mr. and Mrs. William Knaup are. now driving a later model automobile. - Mrs. Everett Lindell and new son came home from the hos pital on Thursday evening. Mrs. Hanna Panska passed away suddenly on Saturday morning at her home in Mur dock. Murdock After Graduation Social Hour Held On Thursday evening, May 12, Doris Ann Wendt graduated from Murdock high school. Doris was valedictorian of her class. She received the Normal School Scholarship, the University of Nebraska Regents Scholarship, and a $1,000 scholarship from Valparaiso University at Valpa raiso, Ind. Doris is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Wendt of Mur dock. Mrs. Wendt was formerly Iola Vogler of Louisvillo. After the graduation exercises, Mr. and Mrs. Wendt entertained at their home with refreshments and a social hour. Those present were Rev. and Mrs. Melvin H. Doris plans to attend Valpa raiso University at Valparaiso, Indiana, next fall. 1905 Peru Grads To Attend Reunion PERU Mrs. Emma Marquadt Rowaldt of Avoca is listed among 13 Peru State Teachers gradu ates of 1905 who will return to the campus Sunday, May 22, for their 50th anniversary reunion. Of the 57 1907 graduates, 10 are dead making the 13 an account ing of more than one-fourth of the living members. Reunion activtiies will open with an 8:30 a.m. breakfast Sun day in the college dining room followed by an automobile tour of old haunts and luncheon at 12:30 p.m. They will be honored guests at the college baccalaur eate services at 4 p.m. UN ON Elinor Fidler Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Browen are spending, two week's vaca tion with Mrs. Browen's mother, Mrs. George Crabtree at Wich ita, Kans. Md.. was heard in a violin solo at the morning service last Sunday at the Methodist church Mrs. Moore accompanied her husband on the piano. The Moore family returned to their home last Monday, after having spent two weeks here visiting their many relatives and friends. Herman Comer was 'taken very ill at his home a week ago and is still confined to his bed. He is improving nicely now and his many friends are all wish ing for him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Con Watkins, who under went surgery at St. Mary's hos pital last week, is gaining rapid ly which is good news to her many friends. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Tensmeyer were transf ered from Magnolia la., Methodist Church to the Union Methodist Church last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Riley of Jacksonville, Mo., stopped off for a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Comer last week. The Rileys were on their way to Washington. - The last quarterly conference met at the Methodist Church last Monday evening with Dis trict Supt. Entries must be in on or before Saturday, June 11. ass theatre Ground Observer Post Meeting Set At Eagle Friday EAGLE (Special) A public meeting to organize a Civilian Defense, Ground Observers Corps post here will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in Eagle, it has been announced. SSgt. H. J. Middleton of Beatrice will conduct the meet ing which will organize volun tary civilian personnel under the supervision cf the U. S. Air Force on a stand-by basis.
