Miss Pfann praised the Le gicn ard Auxiliary for their support in child welfare work and reported there were 43 cases, four'veteran's children in cluded in this group. She suggested that aid from organizations would be in ob taining employment for these children. She also cited slums in Plattsmouth, one place having lavoratory for water and waste, and half bath for all tenants in tha building. Law offices in Plattsmouth are - excellent for helping in child welfare, juvenile court cases here are held in judges chambers, behind closed doors, so a child does not feel like a criminal. Mrs. Mary Jane Dunlap an nounced that gold star members would be honored at the May meeting. A book in their mem ory is to be purchased and pre sented to the public library. Book suggested was "Jungle Road to Tokyo." Contribution to be sent to American Legion child welfare foundation for mentally retard ed children. Plans for initiation of new members was announced by the president, Mrs. Emma McClure. Nominating committee also to be announced for election of of ficers to be held at the May meeting with installation in June. Mrs. Sophia Wolever, poppy chairman, announced poppy day to be held in Plattsmouth on Saturday, May 7, with Auxiliary members. Junior Auxiliary and Camp Fire girls to assist. Poppy window with winning poppy posters will be on display at the Gas Company office and poppy day headquarters will be at the old Journal building. Hostesses Mrs. Charles Jana cek, Mrs. Phillip Lepert, Mrs. Fred Feldhousen, Mrs. Fred Neuman, Miss Florence Persing er and Mrs. Clarence Cotner served brownies topped with ice cream and coffee. TIIETA XI FRATERNITY INITIATES JACOBS During a recent ceremony at the University of Nebraska, Bruce Jacobs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Jacobs of Platts mouth, was initiated into Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Theta Xi Fraternity. Bruce is a sophomore in the College of Agriculture. Virginia Whalley' Honored Guest Bridal Showers Virginia Lee Whalley who will be married to Ross Abel May 14, was honored at a miscellaneous shower Friday evening at the Mynard community hall. Eighty five guests attended. A program was presented with a tap dance by Ellen Kay Born, Ballet, Joel Marie Whal ley, Accordian numbers by Kar en Tilson, Carol Vinduska, Pat ty Toman and Sandra Toman, Toe dance by Sandra Abel; Tap dance by Joel Marie Whalley. Hostesses, Mrs. Marge Born, Mrs. Lucille Wiles, Mrs. Marge Willis and Mrs. Rosa Abel served pineapple ' roll topped with whipped cream, and coffee. Miss Whalley was also honored at a shower at the home of Mrs. Vincent J. Murphy and Miss Regina Murphy in Omaha and Miss Joanne McGrew, entertain ed April 28, at a bridal shower honoring Miss Whalley. Sunnyside Club Thursday, April 28, the Sun nyside Extension Club met at the home of Mrs. Curtis Faris with Mrs. Rose Bickett, co-hostess. There were 12 members and 5 children present. Mrs. Gene Nolte and Mrs. Eu gene Gruber presented an inter esting lesson on the care of electric appliances. A nice lunch was enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. Harold Gregg's. Joann Henry, J. M. Smithson Married at Plattsmouth Church Baskets of pink carnations - and wnite snap dragons, decor ated the First Lutheran Church of Plattsmouth on April 23, at seven thirty in the evening, for the wedding of Joann M. Henry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Henry and J. Marshall Smithson, of Plattsjnouth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Smithson Sr. of Shelbyville, Tennessee. The nuptials were performed by Rev. E. E. Mueller of Omaha in the presence of 150 relatives and friends. Mrs. Marion Plybon, soloist, sang the "Lord's Prayer', and "Oh Perfect Love". The organist was Mrs. Al. Huebner. The bride who was given away by her father, Raymond Henry, wore a white ballerina length Schifeli embroidered gown. Her finger-tip veil, was held by a jeweled tiara, and she carried a cascade of red roses and lily of the valley. Rae Mae Henry, sister of the bride, attended as maid of hon or. Both carried hand bou quets of partisian carnations. Kenneth Henry served the groom as best man. Ushers were Donald Sutton of Omaha and Tom Conis. A reception was held at the Lions hall, with Mrs. Joan Smith, Mrs. Faye Ruback, Mrs. Martha McQuin, Mrs. Betty Claus and Mrs. Harriett Burch in charge of arrangements. The bride is a graduate of Plattsmouth high school. The groom was graduated from the nigh school in Shelbyville, Tenn. and is consulting engineer with a company in Omaha. They will make their home in Plattsmouth. P. F. C. Robert Beins Honored at Supper . The home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beins was the scene Sunday of a family supper honoring Pfc. and Mrs. Bob Beins and Lynn, who is here on leave from the armed forces. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Beins, Benne Rae Speck,. Delor Beins and family. Mrs. Ella Beins, Bennie Rae Spepk, Delor es Beins, Don Beins, Jim Samp son, John Schuetz and hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beins. Mrs. R. Ham Honored Guest Mrs. Eleanor Ham, who . was married April 21 to Raymond Ham, was honored at 2:00, Lions Hall, Sunday, at .a miscellaneous shower. Games were played and prizes awarded to Mrs. Phillip Hcil and Anna Lau. Mrs. Ham was seated at a dec orated table to open the gifts, assisted by Wanda Lytl3, Lorene Seacott, Dixie Ham and Mar lene Haden. Is Announced Navy Mothers Hold Tea In Observance Of 10 Anniversary The club rooms of the Veter ans of Foreign Wars was the scene Sunday afternoon of a tea commerating the 10th anniver sary of the. Navy Mother's Club in Plattsmouth. A large group was in attend ance, with Mrs. F. I. Rea, com mander as hostess for the eve ning. Spring flowers decorated the rooms. The lace covered serving table was attractively arranged with a vase of flowers, gift of the commander of the Navy Mothers of Omaha, a decorated birthday cake and blue candles in crystal holders. ! . A program was presented, by the "Thrifty Stitchers," under the direction of Mrs. Chet Wiles. Guests from out of town at tending were Mrs. C. P. Kildohl past national president, and state organizer, Mrs. Peter Lor imer, past commander of the Navy Mothers club in Omaha. EM I and Mrs. Roy Gaddis and Mrs. Gaddis, mother of EM1 Gaddis, all of Omaha, Mrs. Kildohl, brought greet ings from Navy Mothers clubs. She spoke briefly on the Navy family chapel at Long Beach, Calif., and the Blue Jacket Hav en at Oakland, Calif. Miss Wetenkamp, program chairman presented Mrs. Snell (the former Helen Virginia Price) who gave a very interest ing talk on her recent stay in Afaghanistan. Mrs. Snell was at tired in native costume of that country. She also showed slides taken while she was there. The program was enjoyed by parents and children alike. This was the last meeting to be held until the school re-opens in September. Attend Encampment In Syracuse Sunday Election 'and Installation of officers marked the meeting of District 6 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Auxiliaries at the En campment held Sunday in Syr acuse. - Mrs. Bertha Price, of Peru was elected president, Mrs. Viva Martin of Falls. City, Se ior Vice president, Mrs. Bessie Mcluney of Falls City, Jr. Vice president, Miss Clara Stockton of Falls City treasurer, and Mrs. Mar garet Fitch of Plattsmouth con ductress. Mrs. Gertrude Atkinson of Lincoln National legislation Chairman and past deparment president was an official repre sentative of department and ad dressed the group on various projects in Auxiliary activities. Also attending was Mrs. Mildred Owens assistant VAV hospital representative from Lincoln. Mrs. Dorothea Schroeder of Syracuse Neb. retiring district president, presented her officers with gifts. CocKtail hour was held pre ceding the dinner with a dance held in the evening. Dale Bowman was appointed Judge advocate of the VFW District post. Albert, Sr., recently celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage at their home east of Louis ville. The couple was married in Cass county in 1905 and lived near Stanton, Neb., for two years before returning to Cass county to live. Riverview Club Has Panel Discussion The April meeting of the Riv erview Club was held Thursday at the home of Mrs. Nellie Sack. Mrs. Bettty Patterson conducted a panel discussion. The topic was "Should our Senators Vote Themselves" and "Vote down a two dollar increase in old age pensions". Prizes were awarded for best answers.
