It was tough but he had to hoof it over to the gas pumps at his station and get a can of gas to get the truck load of merchandise over to the store. , Needs yardstick Sheriff Thomas S. Solomon finally completed the cabinet his wife has been wanting him to make. With justifiable pride he called the little woman and they carried it up the steps but it wouldn't go through the door and so he had to disassemble it and carry it in; then reassem ble. His biggest deal of the season is his current fish story He had Wynn Babbitt doze out a hole in the property tha sheriff has at the south side of the Platte river bridge. Seepage from the river filled it with water now, Tom's story is .that there are fish in there and that they got there by being forced up irough the sand from the river by water pressure. Eight and ten pound fish, according to this legend, come shooting up out of the sand and fall into the pond all you need to fish at the i sheriff's resort is a first base- j man's mitt. i ' It pays to advertise In the old days Cliff and Hilt Wescott had a yellow slicker on a stand they would push out in front of the store on a rainy day in hopes of getting some im pulse buyers of slickers. George Smith, their successor has a new angle. The other day he was walking east on main street in the rain wearing a plastic raincoat-with the price tag showing on his shoulders. They took the time Hiatt Furniture and Grove Jewelry had some splendid win dows relative to the Easter sea son. Hiatts featured the true spirit of Easter, with a green background, a Bible and a Cross. Grove had two cute little-bunnies in a dainty little Easter set ting. The displays created a number of comments on Main Street and were worth the ef fort they cost. Prison Pallor? Joe Zastera got one of the parking tickets last week for parking in the vicinity of the fire house. This one had hair on it because it cost him $5.00 total.' You can really get in trouble at one of those fireman's conventions, Joe m'boy, you'd best go straight home. The passing scene Doc Amato walking up the alley, and noticing Bill Schmidt mann up on the roof sprinkling water on it with a garden hose, asking, "Have you a . garden up there Buster?" . . . Elmwood Elmwood Spring Festival Enjoyed It was an outstanding event when the music department of the High School presented the Spring Music Festival at the Community Building on Wed nesday, April 13. There were mixed chorus numbers, a Boys' Glee Club. Boys' quartet, Girls' Glee Club, Trio, vocal and Triple Trio numbers. Solos were pre sented by Donna Miller, Mary Lou Hall, Martha Stolz, Carolyn Spohn, Clark Marshall. There was a vocal and a piano duet. Iva Kay Irons played a piano so lo, and Merwinna Kampman a violin number. It is pleasing to have this violinist who has studied much, and to have the assistance of Marjorie Clements as accompanist who has many ; of the students in her music classes both instrumental and vocal. Mrs. Godbey and several girls were piano accompanists too. , Mrs. Godbey, director, is es pecially efficent in leadership. The numbers are being present ed at the Peru contest except the closing anthem which brought in the sacred element "God So Loved the World". The response of the large au dience showed the acclaim.
