The president, Mrs. Leavitt, passed out the new yearbooks to the members. Mrs. Lewis Hol lnbeck acted as secretary. Mrs. Chas. Marshall and Mrs.' Frank Bull gave a demonstra tion on brpiler cooking and lat er they served the results. Menu proved to be a delightful meat patty, potato sticks, tomato and apple slices and delicious spice cake with very extra frosting, nuts an cocoanut being part of the topping mixture. Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Emily Gonzales reported on Cass Coun ty extension club work. Mrs. Paul Bornemeier reported on safety precautions stressing gas especially. Next meeting is to be with Mrs. Rcsenkoetter. Mrs. Orley Clements was a guest and Miss Lena Rieke became a new mem ber. Charles Marshall has been a busy officer. Some time ago he, Mrs. Marshall and Clark, were in New York City for a national meeting. This week he is to be part time, in Chicago. On Sun day night he showed his Pales tine films at Eagle. This was earlier in January. There is an Ashland date to ccme up, too. The committee work m the leg 1 . islature will be an interesting feature. "Imwood Honor Induction The formal induction cere monies for tho new Elmwood chapter of the National High School Honor Society were held at the building on Wednesday evening, January 25. The Avoca chapter members were the in stalling officers. Superintendent Yocum cf Avoca was master ot ceremonies. The program opened with a pian sol by Marilyn Men denhall. Questions were answered by 'Merwinna Kampman, president; . 'Mrs. Godtey and Mr. Mickelson, sponsors. Elmwood Ten members of the EUB church were in Lincoln at Sniithminister church cn Sunday night. The event was a reception welcoming the new bishop in this area and his wife. Bishop L. I. Baughnian. Calvary First EUB members were there too. Rev. and Mrs. Schroeder were in the receiving line. He conduct ed a union revival meeting hero last fail. He is pastor of the new church at Ralston. There was a program and refrsehments and a talk by the bishop. Dr. Knosp sang the solo "The Lord Is My Shepherd" at the Methodist church on Sunday. Dr. Story's theme "As A Man Thinketh" was timely. . Speeking of educational fa cilities Lewis Hollenbeck at tended a school north of Weep ing Water when 70 'pupils 'were at times in attendance. Mrs. Mattie Hylton Douglas was one cf his teachers. Dr. Pitts, husband of the former Ellen Douglas, has been hospitalized recently for an op eration. Mrs. Douglas keeps as usual for her. She has gained much weight. Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs. Gsrbeling and Mrs. Plybon were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gerbe ling, Sandra and Carol Jean of Lincoln. John Clements and family were recent visitors of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Clements. They came from Kansas City but he is on his way to accept a position' in the engineering department of Gen eral Motors in Indianapolis, Ind. MSgt. Bryce Queilhorst and family are at the summer home until quarters are provided for them at Fort Leavenworth Kansas. They were Weeping Water visitors Saturday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Cook, Margaret and Billy are in Cali fornia visiting relatives in San Jose and enjoying other pleasures. New Taste Treat X" s"'' v f i ' jeq t s tv. Elmwood Kensington Meets Sixteen ladies enjoyed the January Kensington with Mrs. Blanche Kuehn on the last Tnursday of the month. The program of quiz games, jokes and winter articles was led by Mrs. Ellis Miller and Mrs. Ply bon. Mrs. Chas. Fleischman read a letter from Mrs. Perkins new in Hawaii, where her hus band is stationed. She is a sis ter cf Mrs. Wm. Whitney. She lived here for some months in their trailer. Mrs. Bronn assisted the hostess in serving the cov ered dish luncheon, as Miss Alice Kuohn was sitting in the flower alcove with her broken foot bone. She goes cn crutches in the house. The president, Mrs. Clark, announced the next meeting to be with Miss Minnie Kunz. Looking at the varied plants proved to be interesting. Elmwood The Fairview club met Janu ary 20 at the home of Mrs. Clar ence Schianker. There were 15 present. The lesson, "Broiler Meals," was demonstrated by the leaders. Mrs. Ray Fentiman and Mrs. Skyl MiUer, Sr. February meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Roy Fenti man. The lesson will be a contin uation of broiler meals. Mrs. Howard Miller is the president of the club for 1955. The secretary-treasurer is Mrs. Lloyd Miller. Mrs. Pienning, the efficient kindergarten teacher, has a son. H Dick, 19, who recently went to 8 ban Diego for enlisting in the Navy. Mr. and Mrs. George Moomey visited for the holida3s with a They were gone for three weeks. Local Students Plan enior Dav Attendance at Peru PERU Mere than 4C0 high school seniors have indicated they will be on the Campus of a Thousand Oaks Saturday when Peru State College entertains at ihe first of two Senior Days. Stu dents will be present from 41 Nebraska schools, 13 from Iowa, tind one from Kansas, according t acceptances received by Mon dayTKerineth M. Heywood, Sen ior Days chairman announced. A second Senior Day is plan ned for February 19for a sim ilar size group from "other high schools in the Peru area. The event will begin at 1 p. m. when the guests wTill be enter tained by a student-faculty va riety show. The seniors will be given an opportunity to inspect the facilities of Nebraska's old est college, dance in the Student Union, and swim in the college pool. Late in the afternoon the sen iors will be guests of the College at dinner, and then will see the Peru Bobcats-Midland Warriors basketball game. Faculty chairmen in charge of the event are John Christ, enter tainment; Harold Johnson, rec reation; Jerome Stemper, tours, and Frieda Rowoldt, dinner ar rangements.
