Surgery Performed , Mr. Fred Oberle underwent surgery on his knee recently for an arthritis aliment. At this writing he has been relieved, of some of the pain and stiffness, of his knee joint. Kagle , Mrs. Robert Walker received word of the serious illness of her mother at Lynch last Monday, She has been ill for a long time j vith a cancer and turned for the worse, Sunday. The former j has her leg in a cast and unable to make the trip at this time, however her two sisters at Lynch are caring for their mother and keeping Mrs. Walk er closely informed of her moth er's condition E-?Ie - Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Erskine, Jr. home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schweg man have been suffering with the flu. A Doctor was; called Wednesday, as Mrs. Schwegman was not overcoming the illness, as hoped. Mr. and Mrs. Page are the grandparents of a baby girl, Su san Beth, born to their daugh ter Feme, and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Starr, at Lincoln. The lat ter is a former Eagle graduate. The Amencan Lesion Auxili ary had a food sale Saturday afternoon at the firehouse building. Last Wednesday evenin? sev eral Eagle folks attended the extension service dinner at Wreeping Water, including the following: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Frohlich, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lanning, Mr. and .Mrs. Orris Lanning, and Mrs. Laura West. Birthday Party On last Saturday evening sev eral of the relatives of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Erskine, Jr., including his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Erskine, Sr , a brother, Orest Erskine and family, of Prairie Home, Nebr; four sisters and families: Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hutchinson,. Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond Siekman of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Donald George of Prairie Home, Nebr. and the lat ter's daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Owen of Flor ida and. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Westlake and family of Eagle heloed celebrate the birthday of Mrs. H. N. Erskine, Jr. at the latters home near Eagle. - Eaele Robert Carr has been at the hospital for some time after re ceiving injuries from a fall down a stairway of his apart ment. A study group of the Wom en's Society of Christian Ser vice met at Mrs. Charles. Scat ty rgood's home last Monday. The next meeting will be at Mrs. M. D. Fischer's home. Mon day, Dec. 31st, at 1:30 P. M. The Lion's Club dinner was served by the selected commit tee of the Women's Society. of Christian Service Thursday ev ening at the Methodist Church. Dallas Fifee of Lincoln, for merly of Eagle, was one of the prison guards who was ordered to the vegetable locker a short time ago by some of the con victs. Paul Hulfish farmerly of Elmwood, Nebr. was the guard who shot at the car from the front gate. Neither was injured. The former -is the son of Mrs. Anna Fifer of Eagle. Mrs. Herbert Oberle left for Chicago by bus to attend the national officers of the Wom en's Missionary League of the Immanuell Lutheran churches of which the former is Presi dent. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Dysart of Iowa, formerly of Eagle, visited at the Fred Rudolph home at Malcolm last, weekend. They were former neighbors before the former purchased a farm in Iowa and the latter a farm at Malcolm. The Dysarts also visited a brother, Porter Dysart at Tecumseh. Eagle Double Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stoll entertained several couples at their home Wed. evening includ ing Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rud olph of Malsolm, formerly of Eagle, the latters daughter and family, the Otto Hinrichs of Pleasant Dale. The Ralph Ransfoids, Chas. Scattergoods, Orin Lannings and John Fischers of Eagle al so were present as were Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Philpot of Weeping Water. The latter is a sister of Mr. Stoll. The occasion honored the birthdays of Mesdames Rudolph and Stoll both on the same date. Jan. 26th. They were neighbors, before the Rudolphs moved to their present farm, one mile east of Malcolm. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scatter good entertained in honor of Lt. and Mrs. Max Buettgenbash at the formers home last Thursday evening by inviting the neigh bors of both the guests and hosts Lt. Buettenbach returned from overseas duty in Guam, recently. The Rudolph Umland family of Lincoln visited at the Henry Rockenbach home Sunday. Pvt. Joe E. . Ayers will return to his home, at El Paso, Tex., after a" 14-day leave and will be assigned for special schooling for several weeks. - Lt. Max Buettgenbach and family formerly of Eagle, who farmed Mrs. Laura West's farm a few years ago, before he was called back to service, has been visiting Mrs. Buettgenbach's relatives, also friends at Eagle, left for Spokane, Wash., Mon day, to resume his duties as a Air force pilot.- MUTE GIRL MAQES FRIENDS LOUISVILLE, Ky. Delores Schneider, an eight-year-old deaf mute, solved the problem of making friends and playing with other children, when her family moved into a new neighborhood by teaching the children the sign language. There's hardly a child of her age in the neighbor hood who can't held his own in two-handed conversation. The lesson on broiling was very ably given. Sundav dinner guests at the home of Mrand Mrs. Robert Stock were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaebel, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gaebel and family. The occasion was to celebrate Mrs. Lee Gaebel's birthday. Friendly Neiphhnr club ladies met with Mrs. William Blum on Wednesdav, January 19th. All members but one were oresent. Meeting onened at 1:30 with regular business after which the entertainment commiUee, 'Paul ine Kupke and Selma Lau nlaced two lovely cakes on a table be fore the ladies and Mrs. Elsie Wendt nroceeded to show us some vpry artistic cake decorat ing. When this was comnleted the cakes were cut and served with delicious ice cream ?nd coffee. Next meeting to be with Mrs. Carl Richert on February 16th. A card Dartv- will be held at the R. N. A. hall nn Monday eve ning. February 7th at 7:30 p. m. Public invited. Murine'' Four Square Meets The Four So''n"p F.vtPrision club met at the trvn of Mrs. O. B. Limardus. Thursday, Janu ary 27th. 1955 with Mrs. Luoar ius presidine. Since th lesson for the . month was "Broiler Meals," our leaders. Mrs. EIsp man and Mrs. August Werdt nrepared a one o'clock lunch eon, consisting of a menu taken from the bulletin. The food was rot, only nrenared in an anne tizinr manner but wrfs served attractively. The luncheon be mer over, the regular order of business for the month was taken over. The roll call of 18 members for 195 made out for the new year. The ear books were presented ad checked for the changes. The executive committee pave their assign ments tr officers and commit tees for the ensuinsr vear. After reports and unfinisd business, a collection for the nolio fund was taken. The meet ins: was adionrned to meet with Mrs. Wm. Rikli, February 24th. All denarted thinking the host ess and leaders for a most pleas ant afternoon. Reporter. Murdock The R-. N. Mrs. Grace Plybcn Phone 4-2247 Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Miller had as their dinner guests Wednes day evening Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hall. They spent the evening visiting and watching TV. Mrs. Earl Horton and her sis ter, Mrs. Power of Nehawka," spent from Thursday to Sunday at Steele, a city in southeastern Misosuri, in the home of their brother, C. E. Fowler. They traveled by train. He is a work er in a radio division there. Mr. and Mrs. Capwell of Lin coln attended the funeral serv ices of Mrs. Lottie Beck on Tues day. There were three funerals on that day. In the forenoon serv ices were held at the Catholic church for Charles G. Shreiter of the Avoca community. He regularly attended church here. He is survived by his wife, Jen nie and a daughter, Rosa, at home; a son, Leonard of Dun bar; a brother, Edward, of Grant, and a sister, Mrs. Land graf of Dunbar. Interment was in Nebraska City. Otto Fleischman's new house in Elmwood has been completed. His house is heated with an air flow perimeter system. In his kitchen he has wall-to-wall steel cabinets. His sons, Walter, Eldon and Clarence, with the aid of his sons-in-law, had a big share in rapidly com pleting the job. Elmwood is pleased to have this fine new home. Landscaping is fixed so that a lawn will show un when the winter is over. A group of church men are putting accoustic tile up for the ceiling of the basement at the Methodist church. A few ladies serve them their dinners each day. The new residence of the Al- vin Lashley family is rapidly- going up in south part of town. Mrs. Emmett Cook was kept at home for two weeks with a cold and complications.
