Spring Dreams !n January So thankful for those com pany's responsible for mailing vegetable and flower seed cata logues early in January. "Just around the corner is Spring," I said to Pa, ignoring the snow that still continues to fall, and the wind howling around the north corner of the garden burying the fall plowed earh in mounds of white. The feeline of pride, as your peas are first throueh the ground, or you sharp the first green onions and radishes with your neighbors, is unsurpassed. Just give me a night alone in the house, an easy chair and the 'new spring catalogue, and T order enough seeds to plant Cass County. HITS WRONG CAR HELENA, Mont. While driv ing along the highway, Albert L. Foster, 31, took a bite out of a plum and decided he did not like it. Without looking, he toss ed it out. The nlum spattered against the windshield of a car, driven by Patrolman Ernie De Dycker, who stopped Foster and charged him with dumping gar bage on a public highway. Gas Tax Bill Most Debated In Unicameral . by Wm. A. . Metzger The' Legislature this week has nhr.nt. finlsViPri thp .hnsiness of introducing bills. As of this Fri day, we have. had 329 bills-introduced compared to 374 bills a Vear a?o at this time. There are estimates of about 550 bills being put in at this session. The only bill upon which there nas been mucn deDate is ii. a. 15 which would allow the State Treasurer to start paying the counties . their share of the gas tax; This bill would use as one factor in the division, the 1950 census figures. 22 counties will gain and Sarpy. county is in this class. One county, Cass, will re main about the same and the rest of the, counties will lose in varying degrees. These counties wanted the 1940 census figures used and the opposite would have happened. L. B. 15 is a temporary mea sure which will he in effect only until a new formula for distrib ution is worked out. I have been working on such a formula but cannot tell as yet whether my end result will be satisfactory to a majority of the legislature. It is conceeded that some change will be made during this session. L. B. 8 is being held by the Government Committee and I will attempt to have some ac tion taken on it next week. It provides for a licensing system for trailer courts. A person wishing to operate such a court will have to petition the County Commissioners for a license. The Commissioners will publish notice and hold a hearing. Any one wishing to object may come to the hearing and state his ob jections. In some instances a trailer court might be olaced in a school district unable to handle the increased load of pupils and, I believe the tax pavers should have the right to object if they desire before a trailer court is built. It is impossible under our constitution to use a license sys tem to tax. Therefore the rev enue from such a law would bring in very little money. There is a lot of opposition to this bill and I anticipate trouble in getting it passed, however, I believe it to be sound and I will work for its passage. COLORADO HERMIT DIES AGUILAR, COL. Vast amounts of canned food, soap, furniture, boxes, books and other articles were found in the house, plus more than $1,500 in cash hidden in boxes and tobbacco sacks.
