Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gorton, Valerie, Jack and Jerry returned Sunday night from Denver, Colorado, where they were called by the illness of Byron Gorton, father of Wayne Gorton. Mr. Gorton is reportedly improved. Week end guests at the home of Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Amato and Sally were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Aitkenhead and children nf Shenendoah, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Aitkenhead of Oma ha. Mrs. Orville Nielsen departed by train Sunday afternoon for California. She will visit her sister in Los Angeles. Mrs. Grant Roberts returned from the Methodist hospital Saturday evening. At tho T. H. Pollock home Sunday noon, were Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Minor, Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Minor, Herbie Jr. and John ny, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mor rison, Jr. and children, Richard, Morcia and Larry of Summer field. Kansas. Raymond Sprieck of Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Morrison, Mrs. Perry, and Nancv Ellen. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert" Morrison, Sr., of Burchard, Nebraska were here a few days this week visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Dean Morri son and Mrs. Perry. Mrs. Franz Petereit entered St. Catherine's hospital today (Monday) where she will sub mit to minor surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bridgewater and family, and Jim Bridge water, Sr., were guests Sunday of relatives in Brownville, Nebr. Corwin Burger, of Orinda, Calif., was a guest Friday night at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. F. I. Rea. Word has been received that Grace Livingston and sister, Mrs. Hugo Heyn, Omaha, arriv ed in California. They were held over in Bar stow over night, because of the snow on the pass. Mrs. Carl Nickles was a caller and subscribed to the Journal for her two sons, who live in Buffalo, N. Y., Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Minor of Kankakee, Illinois have been at the T. H. Pollock home since Wednesday. They are returning nome today. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Minor entertained the following at an oyster supper Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Minor, Mr. T. H. Pollock, Mrs. Virgil Perry, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Morn son. Mr. and Mrs. Don Cotner en tertained at bridge Saturday night. Mrs. John Fitch left Monday j for Lincoln where she will be employed. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vallery at tended the new Norge showing in Omaha Sunday: Mrs. Maude Aitkenhead left Sunday by plane for Los An geles, Calif., where she will visit with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Math ews. Mrs. Walter Lipscomb and children left Saturday for Cali fornia where they will sail on the 29th of January for Hawaii Lto join Mr. Lipscomb who is sta tioned there with the navy. Mrs. Lipscomb is the former Alice Rea, and has been here as a guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. I. Rea. Otis Suddith departed for California last week. He will visit and sight - see with his cousin at Pamona. Officers of the Nebraska City Presbyterial society came to spend Monday, "today," with Mrs. V. W. Perry, who is pre sident of the organization, and were entertained at dinner at the T. H. Pollock residence. Guests were Mrs. Merle Jones and Mrs. Karl Geraphewahl of Beatrice, Mrs. Marlow Wester- hoff of Alexandria, Mrs. H. C. Struve, Desher, and Mrs. J, W. Spellman of Adams. House guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Newton is Mrs. Fred Bourne of Hewlette, Wyoming. Mrs. Bourne and Mrs. Newton are sisters. ' Her supper and overnight miosts were Sandra Pameson, Mary Lindsey, Barbara Chand ler, Julie Jean Johnson, Beverly and Carol Balfour. Susan took treats to her teacher, Mrs. Ar thur Mehrens and her class mates in the afternoon and on Sunday she was the guest of honor at a dinner at the horn? of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Finney of Plattsmouth were supper guests Wednesday of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rutledge. Mr. and Mrs. Finney returned Tuesday jfrom a' vaca tion in Florida. Their son, Todd, returned home with them af er spending several weeks with his grandparents, the Rutledge s, while his parents were away. He was bom at Pope, Iowa on January 16, 1865. He is very active, has always been in good health, does his own work and is able to read without glasses. Nehawka Joint Installation Joint installation of the Ne hawka Rebekah and Odd Fellow officers was held at the audi torium Monday evening, Jan uary 17. Mrs. Harvey Barkhurst and John Lingle Grand Master of Avoca, were the installing officers. Installed in the Rebecca lodge were Mrs. Elmer Stoll Grand Noble; Mrs. Wilma Jose, vice Grand; Mrs. Floyd Joerger, recording secretary; Mrs. Paul Whipple financial secretary, Mrs. John Chandler, treasurer. The new Odd Fellow officers are Frank Linder, Noble Grand; Fay Jose, vice Grand; Henning Johnson, secretary; Elmer Stoll, treasurer. The appointive offi cers were also installed. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Dora Waldo,. Mr. and Mrs. Henning Johnson and Elmer Stoll. Mrs. George Kime and Mr. Everett Jose are the retiring no ble grands. Miss Marilyn Meyer was in itiated into the Rebecca lodge at their regular meeting Thurs day evening. Guests were Mrs. Florence Meyer, Mrs. Frances Flyn, Mrs. Hazel Gunders and Mrs. Bessie Bray, all of Omaha. Five dollars was contributed to the Polio fund. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Elmer Stoll and Mrs. Floyd Joerger. Ne'nawka Extension Lesson Mrs. Wm. Getchius and Mrs. Kenneth Gerdes presented the lesson, "Broiler Meals to mem bers of the Maple Grove exten sion club Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Emma Nutz man. They made corned beef sandwiches, kabobs and broiled apple slices with mace and cook ie crumbs on top. These were served with the lunch by the i hostess, assisted by Mrs. Deane i Nutzman and Mrs. Ned Nutzman. Mrs. Malcom Pollard presided ; at the business meeting. Miss i Evelyn Wolph was appointed ci- tizenship chairman and Mrs. ! Amelia Nj Balfour, .safety chair ' man. Members voted to send ; a donation to the "Pennies for Friendship" fund. Year books were distributed. Mrs. u. u. st. jonn was a guest. Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. John Tyson have a new granddaughter, Cynthia Kay Dierking, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dierking of Otoe. She was born January 12 at St. Mary's hospital at Nebraska City. Other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oto Dierking of Wash ington, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Anderson, and family were supper 'guests Thursday at the Dan Anderson home. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sherman Union, were guests Thursday at Mrs. Lena Schlichtemeier. Mr. and Mrs. George Poulos Jr. and Sharon, Auburn, were guests Saturday evening at the George Poulos Sr. home.
