Attends School ' Mrs. Newton Sullivan, is at tending a three day school held at the Masonic Templo in Om 1 aha for all district supervisors, j Supervisors are appointed by the Worthy Grand Matron, and are then obligated to attend I school, before traveling to vari ! ous districts to hold schools of instruction for each of the 259 chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star in the State of Nebraska. A' - i r If- Silver dollars grow on trees these days. At least that's the way it appeared to Hank and Jessie Klinger of Plattsmouth Jan. 2 when they held open house on their Silver Wedding Anniversary. Relatives presented them with this little tree, lower left, hung havily with silver dollars. Over 100 friends called during the afternoon. Jobs Daughters Installation Held Saturday The Queen, Miss Benne Speck,' had as her guests, relatives, five sisters and four brothers and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Speck, an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Becker and grand mother, Mrs. Mary Becker. Miss Clara Weyrich, past Grand, Guardian of the State of Nebraska, was introduced as well as the Guardian, Mrs. Ruby Lancaster; Associate Guardian, Mr. Raymond Lancaster; Guar dian Secretary, Mrs. Katherine Glaze; Guardian Treasurer, Mrs. Katherine Wiles, and the asso ciate Council, Mrs. Helen Land, Mrs. Harriet Burch and Mr. Henry Nolting. Officers of the other Masonic body were also introduced. A reception was held in the dining room following the in stallation. Miss Marilyn Stoehr, past Queen, served cake and Barbara Potts, past Queen, served the coffee. About 150 people attended this impressive ceremony. Bethel No. 24 International Order of Jobs Daughters held their regular business meeting at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, January 8th. The business meet ing was followed by a practice for installation. The Grand Guardian, Mrs. Doris Benson, attended the afternoon meeting. At 8:00 o'clock that same eve ning the Bethel held its semi annual installation. Installing officers were: Phyl lis Rieke, Installing Officer; Marilyn Stoehr, Guide; Eliza beth Painter Snodgrass, Mar shall; Barbara Potts, Chaplain; Mrs. Pearl Cole, Musician. I Announcement was made that j the mid-wrinter conference would I be held at Grand Island Febru ary 19 and 20. Next meeting will be held February 7, with Hallie Stewart and Amelia Stewart as hostesses. Torn Colbert Funeral Rites Held January 4 WEEPING WATER (Special), Services, were held at the Me thodist church, Weeping Water, Tuesday, January 4 for Thomas E. Colbert who died January 2 after a lingering illness. The Rev. Fred C. Gardner of ficiated at the services and Mrs. Neil Fitzpatrick sang ''My Jesus As Thou Wilt" and "Good Night ancl Good Morning," accompan. ied by Miss Maude Moulton, or ganist. Pallbearers were Glen Hene ger, Howard Colbert, Lloyd Col. bert, Elwin Jones, Arnold Jonei and Ralph Colbert. Burial was at Oakwood ceme tery with the Hobson Funeral Home in charge of arrange, ments. Obituary Thomas Elmer Colbert was born August 29, 1875 at Wabash, Nebr. He was one of ten chil dren of James and Jane Col bert. He daparted this life on January 2. 1955 at his home in Weeuing Water, having attain, ed the age of 79 years 4 months and 3 days. December 21, 1904, he wras nuited in marriage to Francis Bosworth at her parents home two miles north of 'Weeping Water. To this union two chil dren were born. Tom spent his entire life in the Wabash community where he was engaged in farming. In 1934 he retired from the farm and moved to the present home m Weeping Water. He was a member of the Me thodist church. Tom was preceded in death bv his parents; one sister, Mrs. Alvira Richards; four brothers, Willie, Wesley, John and George. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Frances; one daughter, Mrs. James Kivett of Weeping Water; one son, Elmer of Falls City; one sister, Mrs. Lueta Pool of Weeping Water, three broth ers, Frank and Perry of Lincoln and Eugene of Weeping Water; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host, of other relatives and friends. Journal Ranks Among Top 10 In State Press At the beginning of 1955, Ne braska newspapers were circu lating to about 7,000 more read ers than during the first days of 1954. The Nebraska Press Associ. ation reported the 1955 figure at 942,963, compared with 935,889 in 1954 and 915,823 in 953. Weekly circulation totals 454,529 this year and was 454,953 a year ago. In 1953, it totaled 447,956. Nebraska's population is esti mated at 1,335,741; the number of families at 371,039. The increase in circulation was mads despite a decrease in he number of newspapers m the state. This year, there are 286 weekly and daily newspap ers, eight less than a year ago. There are now 265 weekly and 21 daily neyspapers in Nebras :a.
