WEEPING TOTES Mrs. Lewis Baker Phone 182 .Officers and teachers of the Christian Church held a meet ing: at the church last Thurs day evening to make plans for the next three months. Robert Hammons, superinten dent, presided at the meeting. Airs. Ed Van Horn opened with a prayer. Plans were made to give out the year pins on Jan uary 16 during the Sunday school hour. A committee was appointed by the Supt. to se lect new officers for the com ing year. The evening was clos ed by a prayer by Harrison Liv ingston. Those present at the meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Har mon Livingston, Mrs. Mable Breckenridge, James Breckin ridge, Mrs. Edgar fcurgin, Mrs. Charles Freeman, Mrs. Lynn Rothe, Mrs. Ed Van Horn and Robert Hammons. -' Weeping Water ! Daughter Is Born Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Baker of Weeping Water are the proud parents of a baby girl, Evelyn Sue weighing in at 9 lbs. on Thursday, December 23 at St. Mary's hospital in Nebraska City. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Baker of Weeping Water and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Connaughey of Peru, Nebraska. . New Year's Day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elliott and family were Mr. and Mrs. James Troutman, Connee Sue and Ruth Ann of Winside, Nebr. Tuesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Van Horn and family visited with Mr.and Mrs. Cyrus Livingston. The Danish Ladies Aid and families held a Christmas party at the Odd Fellows Hall on Sun day, January 2. There were ap proximately 70 attending. The party began with a cov ered dish dinner at noon. Dur ing the afternoon the children were entertained with a erab bag and a fish pond. Treats were passed out to all the chil dren. Christmas carols were sang and the grown - up's played cards. Linda Rehmier was the lucky young lady to win a quilt made by the Ladies Aid. Every one had a very good time. Miss Edith Thomassen was a dinner guest of Mrs. Dick Matt eson and family Sunday. Mrs. Lois Davison accompan ied her son Merle to T,onisvinp Sunday where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Woolhieser. A niece and her husband and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Syl vester and family of North Da kota were there visiting. There were also many other rlatives present. The Weeping Water Assemb ly. Rainbow for Girls, met Tues doy evening, December 28th in : the Lodge Hall for their regular '. meeting. An initiatory service was held for Miss Ramona . Gardner, daughter of Rev. and, Mrs. F. C. Gardner. ! ine Majority service given for girls who have passed 'their 20th birthday, was held for Charlotte Stacey, Janet Chris tensen and Valerie. Uffelman. Others who have received this during the year are Nancy Brown, Margory Whipple of Nehawka, Gineer Philpot and Dorothy Ann Kunkk. Rev. and Mrs. Fred Gardner were present during the meet ing. Following the meeting a Christmas party was held. Games were played. and Santa Claus arrived in traditional style. The hall was aporopriate ly decorated with holly, mistle toe and candles. A gift exchange was held. Miss Marie Stock and Miss Ann Smith presided at the table where Christmas cookies, huts and chocolate candy, a gift of Otcar Domingo, Rainbow Dad, were served ? r T 4 SHOES Think of X-RAY FITTING V ' - Sr. c ' . 1 .3t. -if . Davis and Reese, a top-notch variety team, will-be the entertainers at the annual Platts mouth Chamber of Commerce banquet Thurs day night. Somewhat resembling Martin and Lewis in routine, the pair has been highly rec ommended for an evening of fun. The Platts mouth Chamber will throw aside business for the evening, except for a secret balloting on new directors, so that members, their wives and the public may enjoy the show which will also in clude the Thrifty Stitchers and the high school boys' quartet. Tickets may be purchased by the public or members from the Chamber of Com merce office, 506 North Main street. Banquet will be held at the Lions Club building? Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxil iary met Dec. 21 at the Legion Hall. There were members and one guest present. Following a short business meetinea Christmas nartv was held. Bingo was the game of tne evening. A gift exchange was held at the close of the par ty, Mrs. Lawrence Wiseman and Dorothy Smith were hostesses for the evening and served a delicious luch. Weeping Water Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Harmon were New Year's Eve guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaup. On New Year's Eve day, Mrs. Lewis Baker, Sandy and Randy of Weeping Water and Mrs. Ri chard Norris of near Avoca ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Don Urwin and Roger of Louisville to Lincoln, where they were dinner guests of Mrs. Mildred Sturdevant; a sister of Mrs. Urwin. Other guests were an other, sister, Mrs. Mary Linder and family, Jerry and Susan of Omaha. During the afternoon part of them went through the Antelope park zoo and the chil dren played at the play ground. After supper in the evening a phone call was made to Mr. and Mrs. Dave S. Rogers at Portland, Oregon. They are the parents of Mrs. Urwin, Mrs. Linder and Mrs. . Sturdevant. Everyone said hello and wished them a Happy New Year. Vepjng Water Happy Housekeepers Mrs. Lewis Baker's home was the meeting place of the Happy Housekeepers last Thursday, December 30. The afternoon began with the playing of games. Golda Wannemaker presided over the business meeting. All eight members answered roll call by " What We Got For Christmas." Geraldine Michelsen, health chairman read a health poem. Helen Mather, safety chairman conducted a safety quiz. The group sang several songs. Our leader gave the lesson, "You Are Welcome." Walter H. Har.ld R. Smith & Lebens Attorneys-at-Law Donat Bldg. At the close of the meeting Golda and Geraldine served a lunch. With part of the money they received on their float last fair time, they bought a set of small flags "American" and "4-H". The next meeting will be at the same place, Jan. 29 Every one will bring their finished luncheon sets to be judged and also material for a dish towel which will be their next project. The lesson will be ''Before the Meal and After." Jane and Helen .will serve. Helen will' also have charge of the games for that day. Jane Davis, Reporter "E" AND "II" BONDS Sales of series "E" and "H" savings bonds in November amounted to $684,000, 13 per cent more than a year before, according to the Treasury De partment. A. held a Christmas party of the Juvenils. Games were played. Each child received a candy cane. Ice cream, cookies, cake and coffee was served. The next meeting will be Jan uary 28th. H eeping Water Second Birthday Is Celebrated Randy Baker, small son of Mr.and Mrs. Lewis Baker, cel ebrated his second birthday last Tuesday December 28. Little friends, Jimmy Potts, Jackie Miller, Maribelle Dickie, and Donnie Elliott, Patty Wade, Tommy, Carol and Terry Wipf, Marlon, Patty, Laura and Mar gie Dennis and Randy's sister, Sandra, helped him celebrate at a birthday party. The birthday table was cen tered with a large snowman cake. Large red gum drops marked the buttons, hands and face. The 'snowman wore a ?reen hat with a lar?e red tassel made from a gum'dicr' Pictures were taken and bal loons were handed out. After Randy opened his gifts with much enthusiasm the group en joyed eating the cake and ice cream. There were several mothers also on hand to enioy the ice cream, cake and coffee. In the evening, Mrs. Richard Matteson and children Eric and Sheri were supper guests at the Baker home in the celebrating oi Randy's birthday. Weeping Water Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Horn and son Raymond were in Irwin Missouri from Saturday, Dec. 23 Until the following MnnHov evening. While there they at tended the funeral of Mr Horn's brother, Walter Horn, who was killed in a tractor ac cident on Friday, December 24.
