Dowton " Ruffner Wedding In Pamona, Calif. Helen Joan Dowton, daughter of Mi and Mrs. Archie Dowton of Pamona, Calif., and Andrew W. Ruffner, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Ruffner of this city were married Saturday, December 11, 1954 at the Immanulate Heart of Mary Church in Pamona The bride was attired in a light brown knitted suit with dark brown accessories. She car ried a hand bouquet of yellow rosebuds. Her matron of honor. Mrs. Al- 1 i fred J. Petro, wore a grey suit z 1 and carried white carnations. Alfred J. Petro served as the j i groom's best man. Traditional wedding music was -J played by Mrs. Eunice Cathcart, v '"l organist. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors, punch and cake was served. Mrs. E. G. Ruffner of Platts mouth, mother of the eroom. at- 3 tended the wedding:. After a short wedding trip the couple will be at home at the Dowton Ranch near Pamona. McDonald of Elmwood, Nrbr., will hold open house in their Elmwood home on Sunday, January 9. Their friends, relatives and patrons are. invited to call be tween the hours of two to five in the afternoon, and seven and nine in the evening. No further invitation is necessary. Mr. McDonald retired on De cember 31, 1954, after 352 years in mail carrier service. " - 7 Snell Returns To Afghanistan Leonard J. Snell, husband of the former Helen V. Price, be gins his return trip to Afghanis tan on Tuesday. He has been vis iting in Plattsmouth with his wife and in Crystal Falls, Mich igan, with his mother, since his return to the United States on leave in October. Snell, a hydraulic engineer with the Water Resources Divis ion of the U. S., Geological Sur vey spent two yeajs in Afghan istan with the Technical Coop eration Administration on water investigations and training of Afghans in such work. Mrs. Snell was with him during part of that period. . rne water investigations in Afghanistan (which is a country about the area of France, located between the U. S. S. R., Pakistan, and Iran, with a few miles also bordering cn Sinkiang Province of China) are mainly in connec tion with present and proposed irrigation developments. . He is returning for a period of at least one year and will travel by air via the Pacific with one or two-day stop-overs at Man illa, Hongkong, Bangkok, and Delhi. Mrs. Snell will remain in Plattsmouth until spring. Prelude of se lected Christmas music was played by Michael Shellenbarger. Candle lighters were Jim Shown and Keener Price. The church school presented "Oh Worship The King." Throughout the program the emphasis was upon the message, and it was prayerfully used wjh worship services demonstrated that the Christ Child lives in our midst. Warren Lillie and John Elliott were in charge of the spot light, which was very effectively used, to help unify the program, and emphasizing the proper parts, and with the candlelight service helped maintain the at mosphere of worship. Cherub Choir, "With Gladness of Heart," directed by Carol Da vis. Speech Choir, Warren Mc Millian, Marlene Johnson and Marcia McQuin, a solo "Oh How Shall I Receive Thee"' by Nancy Land.
