Mary's hospital in Nebraska City to Mr- and Mrs. Basil Lowther of Union. BIRTHS U. S. Soldiers Host Sen. Abel On Christmas FRANKFURT, Germany (Special) Senator Hazel Abel of Nebraska and daughter, Miss Alice Abel of Lincoln, arrived here Dec. 19, at the central point of Foreign Operations in Ger many. The travel is in the interest of the Department of Defense and has been approved by the Secre tary of Defense. Senator Abel was born in Plattsmouth, Nebr. and attended primary school there as Hazel Pearl Hempel. She is a cousin of Miss Minnie Guthman and the niece of Miss Teresa Hem pel who taught in the old Col umbian school for many years. A member of the Senate Com mittee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, she is also the first woman to serve on the Senate Finance Committee. As a mem ber of the committee she will make a survey and report over all conditions. Senator 'Abel and her daugh ter, Alice, will have Christmas dinner at Camp Cham on the Czechoslovakian border with soldiers in the American Army. The senator said' that if her interest as the wife of a soldier in World War I, and as the mo ther of a soldier in World War II adds any cheer, it will be a merry Christmas for her. Storm Blamed In Plane Death Of Nobles (Continued From Page 1) the bodies were not found until the next morning. Mr. Noble was sales manager for Blodgett and Krajacic con tractors and the family lived at 1619 Hill street, in Plattsmouth. - Mr. Noble was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Noble of Grand Island, and Mrs. Noble was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Del mar Mitchell of Grand Island. Bill and Mary Noble were both graduated from the Grand Is-1 land High School in 1948 and were married the same year. He attended the University of Ne braska for a year, and became a professional fighter in 1950. . He gained considerable fame as a heavyweight, and wTas un defeated during the first two years of his career. He retired from the ring in April of 1953. Noble was one of the out standing football players on Grand Island's 1947 state championship football team and was named as an all-state halfback. Bill Noble was a member of the Elks Club, the Knights of Ak - Sar - Ben, and Riverside Country Club. He served in the Marines during World War II. He and Mrs. Noble were mem bers of the Methodist Church. His survivors other than his parents are a sister, Patty Jo, of Grand Island; and two "grand mothers, Mrs.' Lottie Blair of Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. Em ma Noble of Grand Island. Mrs. Noble is survived by her parents and tnree orotners, Mil ton of " Portland, Ore., Meredith and Marvin of Grand Island.
