This was Saint Paul's exhortation to the Christians at Ephesus after he had urged them to "put on the whole armor of God," so that they might "'withstand in the evil day, and having done all, staad." That Paul should have seen the Christian life as warfare is not to be wondered at. His whole course was beset with enemies and persecutions. To the Christians, to whom Paul wrote, life was also a war fare. They may have been, free from the most serious persecu tions that beset Paul, but -hey were subject to persecution. There were hazards in being a Christian. The days, as Paul says, were evil. The pagan en vironment was hostile and full of temptations of the flesh and of the spirit. 1 Paul was insistent upon the Christian warfare, and, like a great military leader, he was deeply concerned about prepara tion, equipment, , indoctrination and rousing words of inpiration and encouragement. And in all this his own exam ple is never-lacking. That is a quality of great leaders. Is the Christian life still a war fare today? It is a significant and important question. Hostile forces and temptations are no less real, though they may seem less evident and more subtle. It may be said that we do not think of the Christian warfare as precisely, and as much, as it is set forth in New Testament days. But this may be because wt lack something of the vision that inspired Paul and the early dis ciples; that we do not see, as they did, the need ot warfare, with the call of duty and the call to greatness. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES "Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?" is the subject of the lesson-sermon to be read at Christian Science services Sunday. Man's God-given dominion ov er materialism, including the so called laws of chance and mis fortune, is brought out in the readings from the Bible, among which is the account of Paul s restoration of Eutychus, the young man who "fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. (Acts 20 ). Correlative passages from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"' by Mary Baker Eddy include the following (424:5): "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of Gods unerring direction and thus bring out harmony."
