McDONAXD, County Clerk:: No. 2657 Oct. 25, 1954 Call for Program For the Reduction Of Stock Disease The American Foundation for Animal Health today called for a concerted program to reduce livestock diseases which are in flicting staggering losses upon the nation's economy. . - Statistics recently published by the U. S.' Department of Agri culture show that brucellosis, anthrax, mastitis, cattle grubs, lice, screw worms, and other livestock diseases and parasites cost the U. S. livestock industry -more than $22 billion every year. "Much of this loss mignt nave been prevented by veterinary diagnosis and treatment," said a Foundation spokesman. -'AWhere we can't protect animals by vaccination and other preven tive medication, we must protect them by .good management and be ready to safeguard the rest of the herd whenever a sick ani mal is detected." The Foundation recommends close cooperation between the , livestock grower, h'is local veter inarian, and government live stock authorities in applying proven methods of disease con trol. "The world is growing smaller for livestock disease organisms, too," the Foundation official ;foH f "Thro aw ronrn ODDortunities ' today for trans mission of costly diseases. Vet erinary science is continually de veloning new methods of com batting them, but in the last analysis it is the coooeration of the livestock owner that deter mines the success of .livestock disease control programc."
