State School Head Ask Patrons Settle Rural School Issue (Continued from Page 1) - j contacts to make up for an ap , parent loss of home environ ment. They need, among other things, the well balanced meal that is provided at noon for all youngsters in the Murdock school. It is not good either that this little girl should be the only girl in this rural school. She needs to have playmates and classmates in her grade and es pecially needs to have other little girls to associate with. The books and equipment of your school are old and the lights and lighting fixtures are very poor. To me it is almost a crime to subject these youngsters to that kind of a school situation, when you could for probably less cost to the district, be attending the Murdock school. I have no particular brief for the Murdock school since today was the second time in my life I have ever been in Murdock, but they do have a well man aged ihool, a good enrollment and a very fine school atmos phere. Each teacher has a num ber of youngsters in each grade. They have well kept and well liehted rooms, good teachers, I good equipment and a very fine ! hot lunch program. There can j be no comparison between the IWU ijCllUUia. X CLlll VVUJ1UC1IU& 11 the patrons of district No. 70 are thinking of themselves or of the children in that district. I am inclined to believe that they are thinking only of themselves and that as the result, the children are the ones that are suffering. 1 The people in your district must know that a district can contract for four consecutive years counting last year as ine first year without losing their district status. Accordingly, your district could contract this year and then two more years and still retain its district status. Knowing this and knowing that almost s. of the parents recog- nize the advantage of the Mur- dock school over this rural 5QS Edwin T. I cannot understand why the parents of the district would insist on operating this rural school, when for less money a finer school and bus transpor tation could be furnished to Murdock. Again I can only say that whire legally you may be right, morally I. think that you are very wrong and that the youngsters are suffering as a result of this wrong. I would like to see you call a special meeting of your district to talk this whole thing over and to decide on what would be best for these youngsters, forgetting for the moment, the attitude of these persons who have no ap parent interest in the future of these youngsters. Please understand that all suggestions that I have made are probably none of my busin ess, except that I have been brought into your controversy and want to help do what is right for these youngsters.
