Invitations have been for the wedding of Miss Doris A large crowd attended the redisricting meeting held at the schoolhouse Thursday evening. A man from Lincoln was the speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Schroe der visited Sunday at the Henry Maseman home. Myron is home on a 30 day furlough from the navy. He flew home from Ja pan. Miss Emma Ruhge of Cook is visiting at the Louis P. Ruhge home for a few days. Fred Sudman of Wichita. Son Safe Aboard USS Bennington Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Royal re ceived a telegram Wednesday that their son, R. M. S. N. John Allen Royal, stationed aboard the aircraft carrier Bennington, was safe after the explosion which occurred Wednesday morning. Royal has been in the navy two years. Avoca BIRTH , Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nutter of Hughes, Colo., a son, Tuesday, May 25. Mrs. Nutter was formerly Miss June Mase. Miss Anamae Emshoff is work ing in Lincoln during the sum mer months. Miss Ramona King is also working in Lincoln. Misses Letha Allgayer, Marlene Edmunds and Josephine- are working at Omaha. Avoca One Hundred Four In Bible School Bible school started Monday, May 24th, with an enrollment of 104 pupils at the First Luth eran church. There were 12 vol unteer teachers. The pastor, Rev. Bracher, will teach' the confirmation class, Mrs. Bracher and Mrs. John Albers will be in charge of the music groups. The other leaders are Mrs. M. Hill man, Mrs. Leonard Haveman, Mrs. Melvin Ohmen, Mrs. Her bert Good, Mrs. Harvey Dettner, Josephine Meyer, Marilyn Hill man, Kathy Leefers and Gay lord Bose. Substitute teacher are Mrs. Albert Bose and Mrs Robert Crownover. Mrs. Bose has been substituting for Gay lord Bose. Gaylord has been having a siege of the mumps, j Avoca ! Mrs. Mickle Ladies 1 Aid Hostess Here Congregational Ladies Aid met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. John Mickle and Mrs. ,L. C. Ruhge as hostesses in the church basement. Mrs. Ernest Emshoff had the devotions. The ladies have finished quilting one quilt and started on another one. Avoca Mrs. Kate Neumeister of Weep ing Water visited Wednesday at the John Lingle, Sr., home. Mrs. Ralph Beccard and son of Lincoln visited Thursday at the Mrs. Julia Mickle home. Mrs. Harry Mickle returned home with her to spend the week end and help serve at a friends wed ding Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Carr of Lin coln visited Thursday evening at the A..W. Carr home." " ; Avoca ' Birthday Dinner Is Held Sunday A birthday dinner was held Sunday at the home -of Mr. and Mrs. John Baier, Jr., honoring the birthdays of Lena Bauer, Hubert Cappen and Mrs. John Baier, Jr. Present at the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Cap pen and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Baier and Mr. and Mrs. John Baier, Sr. Avoca Church Has Thirty At Bible School Thirty pupils are attending the Vacation Bible School at the Congregational church which started Monday, May 24 and will last 2 weeks. Teachers are Mrs. Gus Neumeister, Miss Joan Hoback and Mrs. Roy Ruhge. Mrs. Henry Smith is the superintendent. Joan Ho back is substituting for Nora McDonald who has the mumps. Avoca Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ott of Nebraska City visited at the Roy Ruhge home Wednesday eve ning. A nice crowd attended the J free picture show Wednesday evening which was the first of the season. Aroca Phyllis Gunn Is Nurse Graduate Miss Phyllis Gunn, senior at the Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing grad uated Thursday at commence ment exercises held at Trinity Cathedral, Omaha. Miss Gunn is a graduate of the Avoca high school. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gunn. Avoca Sixty at Mother, Daughter Luncheon About sixty attended the mother-daughter luncheon given by the ways and means com mittee of the Congregational Aid Saturday. The tables were dec orated with garden flowers. Fa vors wrere paper carnation cor sages and tiny crocheted hats. The program was Hats Off to Mothers. Mrs. Everman was the reader. Parts were taken - by Mrs. Nancy Carsten, grand mother; Mrs. Maynard Bruns, mother; Sally Carsten, Ruth i Everman and Karen Emshoff, daughters; Janice Bruns, granddaughter.
