The ordinance, sponsored by Councilman Clark Finney was tabled when the council was un able to agree on the fee. Finney had recommended increasing the fee from $1Q to $25 for each amusement device. Payment of $320 on 32 ma chines was submitted to r the council Monday by Claude Ruse. The current rate is $10 for each machine. May 13. 1954 ' PAGE FIVE EARLY BIRD POULTRY CLUB The Early Bird Poultry Club! and Yard , Beautification Club met Friday night, May 7, at he home of Jackie and Sharon Dodson. Ten members and two guests were present. The lesson yard beautifica tion was followed by practice judging of eggs. After a delicious lunch, served by Mrs. Dodson, games were played during a recreational period. The next meeting will be a picnic this summer. Delbert Lindsey, reporter Thrifty Stitchers On the evening of May 4, Thrifty Stitchers met at the Presbyterian church to give a special program for their moth ers. Lois Gapen, president, wel comed the mothers and dads. Donna Ernst opened the pro gram by singing a song dedi cated to mothers. It was fol lowed by a play, telling the dif ferent little jobs "mom" does to help her children. The play, presented in operetta form, was followed by group singing. Members in the play cast were Beverly Harris, introduction; Jeannine Newton, nurse; Janice Wiles, seamstress; Shirley Sud duth, laundress; Sally Amato, carpenter; Katherine Ptak, playmate; Rose Mary Nelson, cook; Nancy Painter, doctor; Deanna Hutton, judge; and Ann Winscot, minister. Donna Ernst closed the program by singing, "Mother." Each girl presented a rose to her mother. Rev. G. E. Seybold and Rev. Keith Delap showed pictures from the "Share in the Fun" activities at Chicago, and a tape recording of the Thrifty Stitch ers minstrel show. Mrs. Henry Albert and Lois Gapen showed pictures they had taken of the minstrel show at the King Korn Karnival. For money making project the girls sold boxes of cards. Refreshments of cookies and punch were served. Mynard Joliy Feeders Mynard Jolly Feeders met at the home of Roy Lee Smith on May 7, 1954. The meeting was opened with roll call answered by 15 members telling the name of their favorite books. Members voted to have the , tirthday Thursday. Glen Kraeger, as sistant leader, conducted a quiz on the parts of a calf. A recreation period followed and refreshments were served by Mrs. Smith. Shirley Hild, news reporter NEHAWKA DAIRY CLUB The Nehawka Dairy Club met at the home or i-'rea Lindsey on May 8, 1954, with eight mem bers answering roll caii by giv ing the name and weight of their calves. Each member read from the calf manual about care for a j calf, and Kenneth and Larry j Choat gave a demonstration ori the advantages and disadvant ages of the Dairy Herd Improve ment Association. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Lindsey. Elinor Fidler Mrs. David Spelts of Louisville was a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. James Wiszmann and Ter ry Jo from Monday until Wed nesday. Mrs. Wiszmann was a luncheon guest . of Mrs. Spelts Wednesday at the home of her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Art Woehler. James Dill is home from school this week with the mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Knecht spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wunderlich at Murray. Mr. Wunderlich has re turned from the hospital and is much improved. The Friendly Circle met at the home of Margaret Carnicle Thursday afternoon. After the business meeting several quiz games were played, Esther Kuhn and Edna Fidler winning prizes. This was the last meeting until September. Mrs. Wm. Rosencrans and Jack and Mrs. Buzz Gakemier of Burdock spent Saturday in Lin coln.
