But the Gospels reveal on al most every page how the Savior of Men was also teacher, healer and friend. Jesus was also the great Sym pathizer, entering into the joys and sorrows of life, weeping with those who wept, but sharing the joys cf a wedding feast. He freely accepted hospitality and mingled with men, especially with the common people "who heard Him gladly." i We call Him the "Man of Sor rows," and it befits one who bore the world's sins and invited the heavily laden to come to Him 'for rest. ! But back of the sorrow and tragedy of the sin that crucified Him was One who was neither recluse nor ascetic. . He is not only our Savior, but also our Friend. He called His disciples "friends," and He is the friend of all who would be His disciples. This continuing Presence and Friendship of Jesus is not a myth nor an emotional illusion, j Nothing is more sure than that j thousands have felt, and feel ' the reality of that spiritual Pres ence. ) It brings into daily life and ex perience the warmth and tender ness, the faith and hope, the up lifting word that helped and in spired and blessed those who met the Master in His earthly life. But if one would have that ex perience of the present Christ to day, one must know that Master in His earthly life, i And the one sure way of know ing Christ is by reading the New Testament, and especially the four Gospels. service at the church Sunday night, b,ut the nongregation will meet jointly with the Wesleyan Methodist Church on South 10th Street cn the occasion of the opening day of their two-week evangelistic campaign.
