Mrs. Mary Bose is making her home at Hilltop house in Weep ing Water. The 4 Corner club met Wed nesday with Mrs. Ervin Neumei ster. They made candy for serv ice men. Mr. and Mrs. John Lingle vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Green rod at Nebraska City. Mrs. Lydia Midhoff was a Sun day dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Freeman on her birthday Sunday. Avoca - Son's Marriage Is Announced Mr. and Mrs. John Baier, Sr., announce the marriage of their son, James Arlen Baier to Miss Leona Marie Harper, daughter of W. G. Harper, Tulsa, Okla., October 24 at the Carbindale Baptist church study. He is em ployed at St. John's hospital where he is studying male nurs ing. Mrs. Baier . graduated at Webster high school of Tulsa and is employed as office man ager for West Tulsa News. Avoca Mr. and Mrs. Sigvald Jensen of Weeping Water showed pic tures of Riverside gardens and of their trip to Denmark to the Golden Rod Garden Club and their families at the church. Avoca Officers Elected By Garden Club The Golden Rod Garden Club met with Mrs. Harry Mickle Monday. It was voted to spon sor the Christmas decorations for business houses and homes. The election of officers followed. Mrs. Ernest Emshoff, president; Mrs. Albert Sill, vice president; Mrs. Hans Jensen, secretary; Mrs. Louis Ruhge, treasurer. The lesson was "Making Wood Fibre Flowers" bv Mrs. John Wolph. Some of the members brought pictures of their garden this summer. - Avoca Bryan Seegal had a week end furlough from Veterans hospital where he is taking treatment and also had a wen removed from his face. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zaiser ob served Armistice day at Omaha Wednesday. Several ladies went in and had coffee with Mrs. Henry Mose man on her birthday Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Everman, Rev. and Mrs. ,Joseph Aesch baker, Mrs. Caroline Marquardt attended the Cass county Sun day school convention at Weep ing Water Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ruhze and Mrs. Robert Mickle attended fu neral services at Weeping Wa ter for Mrs. March Wollen Tues , day. Mrs. Earl Freeman was with her mother who suffered a heart attack. Mrs. Lydia Midkiff, sev eral days. Avoca Ladies Aide Meets At Church Parlors Ladies'. Aid met Thursday in the church parlors with Mrs. J. W. Brendle and Mrs. H. H. Mar- quardt. Devotions were led by Mrs. John Wolph. The Thank offering was dedicated with scripture and a prayer by Mrs. J. H. F. Ruhze. We also enjoyed a talk by Miss Anna Deterer Mis sionary of Truk, in the Caroline Islands of the Pacific. She is also an ordained minister of the Congregational Christian church. South Ashland Mrs. James Cullen slipped and fell in her home on a throw rug last week, fracturing a bone in her arm. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Heebner are moving this week to the place recently vacated by Elvin Emshoff. Sally Carsten missed a step at school Tuesday, falling and frac turing a bone in her ankle. Mrs.. Sophia Emshoff enter tained at a family dinner Sun day honoring A 1c Wilbert Emshoff who leaves this week for a new assignment. Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Dena Ruze and Frances for Mrs. Ruze's birthday were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Emshoff and family, Mr. and Mrs. Derrold Mather and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maur ice Ruze and sens. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McVay Sr. and Mrs. Kate Neumeister call ed at the John Lingle Sr. heme Monday. Miss Myrna Knabe had an emergency appendectomy Sun day. Avoca Birthday Club Meets Saturday The November birthday club r met with Mrs. Maicoim fouara at Nehawka Saturday with 19 present. In charge of games was Mrs. Elmer Kepler and Mrs. Leslie Behrns. At the business meeting it was voted to hold over the officers for another year. An invitation was extend ed by Mrs. Will Ost, Nehawka for next year's meeting. There was a gift exchange. Miss Mar ilyn Pollard was at the piano and when the music stopped the gift you were holding was yours. A delicious lunch was served by the committee. Mrs. Pollard, Mrs. Will Ost, Mrs'. Lester Heeb ner. Miss Mildred Griffin. Avoca Mrs. Maseman Is Feted On Birthday A belated birthday surprise was carried out on Mrs. Henry Moseman by her family Sunday. They brought a goose and all the trimmings. Those present to enjoy it were: Mr. and Mrs. John Moseman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Moseman and family, Mrs. Myron Shroder, all of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Philip Mosman of Omaha, Richard and Henry Moseman. Five delegates and five alter nate delegates have been named to take in the sessions. a? Hassil Sehenck The convention opens Sunday afternoon with a Talent Find contest in which Miss Peggy Sand is scheduled to compete. Other Cass countians to take part in the program are Charles Marshall of Elmwood, state president, who will present his annual report Monday morning; and Paul Eveland, representa tive of the southeast district on the Resolution committee., The resolutions committee will meet Friday prior to the, convention. Principal banquet speaker Tuesday nignt will be Hassil Scnenck, president of the Indi ana Farm Bureau since 1936. He has also been a member of the American Farm Bureau Board of Directors since 1937; and a member of the national organ ization's executive committee for eight years. s MANUFACTURERS' SALES The Commerce Department reports that manufacturers' sales rose in September, but the rise was less than usual. Inventories held by manufacturers also made a slight rise, which was less than in recent months. Dur ing September manufacturers sold $26,000,000,000 worth of pro ducts by comparison with $25, 500,000,000 in August, but, on a seasonally adjusted basis, Sep tember sales represented a 2 per cent decline from August. Inventories at the end of Sep tember were valued at $45,000, 000,000 $200,000,000 higher than at the end of August after seasonal adjustment. THOMAS WALLING CO.
