Mrs. C. E. Tefft opened the meeting with a prayer. Mrs. Homer Jameson presided at the regular business meeting. The topic for the afternoon was "To ward Lasting Peace'' with Mrs. Louis Noble and Mrs. Joe Bend er as the leaders. The devotions, scripture and group singing were led by Mrs. Noble and Mrs. Bend er. This was also the Thank of fering meeting. Mrs. J. M. Ran ney, Mrs. Eugene Day, Mrs. lr vin Markland, Mrs. J. R. Shan non and Mrs. Roger Grow were in charge of the Thank offer ing. Election of officers was held with theJollowing being elected: president, Mrs. Mogens John son; first vice-president, Mrs. Stanley Wood; second vice-president, Mrs. Murray Mutter; treasurer, Mrs. Eugene D'ay; secretary, Miss Ruth Hart. Wpppins Watpr LCPV Extension Club Meets Thursday The L.C.P.V. Extension club met Thursday afternoon, Nov. 12, at the home of Mrs. Harold Meisinger. Ten members and two guests Mrs. Otto Schafer and Mrs. Merle Ragoss, were present. The regular business meeting was held. A Christmas party will be held on December 10 at the Pleasant View school house, A covered dish supper has been planned with a gift exchange and games. The work for next vear was planned at this meet ing. Mrs. Ray Engelkemeier and Mrs. Harold Meisinger present ed the lesson on "Hand Mend ing'. Mrs. Meisinger served a tasty lunch at the close of the meet- in? Wpenins; Water VSCS Meeting Held At Church The November meeting of the W.S.C.S. was held on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 10. in the Meth odist church parlors. A good attendance was present. A brief business meeting was held. Mrs. John Norris continu ed her readine of "The Greatest Story Ever Told". Mrs. Vernon Gish led the de votions. She onened with a call to worship. This was followed by group singing and a prayer. Mrs. Edward Sperry presented the lesson on scientific knowl edge of. stewardship. Wiles, Mrs. Charles Sluyter and Mrs. George Rhodes. 1 Weeping Water Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Akeson announced the engagement of their-daughter, Marilyn Jean to William C. Buskirk, s6n of Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Buskirk, of Bars tow Cal5f. Miss Akeson is a graduate of the Lincoln General hospital school, where she is at present a member of the nursing educa tional staff. She was a former student at the University of Ne braska. She is now attending school at the Nebraska Wesleyan University. Mr. Buskirk is at tending the University of Ne braska and is a member of The ta Nu and Gamma Lambda fra ternities. The wedding will be an event of December 20. iVpppine, Water . Miller-Taylor Vows Solemnized Miss Helen June Miller, dauarh ter of Mr. and Mrs. James Mil ler, of Leonia, N. Y., was married to F. Walker Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taylor, of Lin coln on Saturday, Oct.-17. Mr. Taylor is on leave of ab sence from Venezuela, South America, where he has been as sociated with the Standard Oil Company for a number of years. Mr. and - Mrs. Frank Taylor were former farm residents of Weeping Water. They lived on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thorns and family. Weeping Water Community Club Will Sponsor Christmas Sing The Weeping Water Commu nity club is again sponsoring a community Christmas sing. No tices have been sent to churches in thp Wppninp- Wat.pr area. Tt has been suggested that a mass choir be grouped to present a special number, besides the indi vidual church choir selections. Choir leaders have been request ed to get in touch with the rep resentative of the sing commit tee and report their selection for the event, so there will be no duplications of numbers 'on the program. Date and place are to be announced later. Weeping Wat' i Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jameson of Nehawka and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jameson were Sunday dinner and afternoon guests of Mrs. W. W. Jameson. Mrs. L. J. Hobbs and daugh ter, Joy, of Kansas City were guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Johnson from Thursday until Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. " Virgil Rhodes drove to Lincoln Sunday where they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Wissink. In the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Eppens of Colorado Springs ar rived. The, afternoon was spent in tying' a comforter top. Names were drawn tor the next meeting which is the Christmas party, and gift exchange. The meeting is set for Tuesday, De cember 3rd. Weeping Water Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Eiden miller were honor guests at a Saturday evening dinner in ob servance of their 14th wedding anniversary at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Groesser. Mr. and Mrs. Neal Snell of Murray were also guests. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts entertained members of their re cent Ozark fishing group Mon day evening. Mrs. Dan iel Moser, 12th district president, was a guest of the Auxiliary. Charter members were recog nized, with the following named as having retained their mem bershin: Mrs. Sterling Amick, Sr., Miss Darlene Hoffmeister, Mrs. Josenh John, Mrs. .George Smith. Mrs. Kathryn Conley, Mrs. F. F. Wildrick. Mrs. Frank Wildrick and Mrs. C. V. Wallick. Mrs. Robert McVay, chairman of the membership drive, reports that their quota had been reached as of October 1. They have added 12 new members. Weeping Water Mr. and Mrs. William Betts, parents of Mrs. Lee Stratton, ob served open house in Nebraska City Sunday, November 15th, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Dr. and Mrs. Jack Herman and family dropped in for an early Sunday morning visit at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. O. Herman. They were en route home to Omaha from Lincoln and an overnight stay with her parents. Mrs. Mark Wiles and Mrs. Ed ward Steinkamp gave the lesson, on Machine Mending. Mrs. Robert Wiles is hostess for the Monday meeting of December 2. There will be a Christmas gift exchange. The second of family night suppers was held at the Congre gational church Monday eve ning, November 16. A film show ing of Doane College at Crete and of other church colleges across the country was shown. Weeping Water Forty-Five Feted At Sunset Dinner The annual sunset dinner took place last Thursday evening at the Methodist church, at which time all residents of Weeping Water who are over 70 years of age were invited to attend. Forty-five honor guests were pres ent to enjoy the dinner and eve ning. This was held on connec tion with the regular family night supper. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Mr. D. O. Dwyer, whose 89th birthday was this day. Following the dinner, the pro gram was announced by" Mrs. John Norris. Mrs. Nell Fitzpat rick, accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Groesser, sang "Red Sails in the Sunset". Mrs. Sigvald Jensen, president of the WSCS, gave the 'Welcome". Mrs. Ona Kunkel of Nehawka gave the "Re sponse". Mrs. Norris paid spec ial tribute to the fellowship ex isting between the three spirit-' ual counsellors and their churches. Rev. and Mrs. -Fred Gardner" of the Methodist church, Rev. and Mrs. Roger Grow of the Congregational church, and Rev. and Mrs. Leon ard Knoff of the United Mis sionary church. ' Rev. Gardner gave a short talk to the group; a male quartet composed of Clyde Wiles, John Groesser. Al vin Groesser and Roger Druling er, accompanied by Mrs. Groes ser, presented a song; and this was followed by grouo singing, led by Mrs. Fitzpatrick. The evening was ended wih he sineine of "God Be With You Till We Meet Again". Rev. Gfrdner gave the benediction. There were four guests pres ent who were near ninetv or over ninety years of age. Thev were Mrs. Anna Norris and Will Dunn, both over ninety, and Mr. D. O. Dwyer and Mrs. George Wiles. Sr.. who are nearing the age of ninety. Weeping Wnter Mr. and Mrs. Milfcrd Han sen and daughters of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Holt were entertained at dinner Sun day at the Chris Holt farm home. Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Coolev of Lincoln, with their son, Paul, of Rock SDrinss Wyo.. and a ister of Griffith Cooley. Miss Ruby, of New York City, visited Thursday evening with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Wiles. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Domingo and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rob erts represented the Nebraska State Bank at the meeting of the Nebraska State Convention of bankers in Omaha Tuesday and Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Carmichael, Mrs. Anna Jorgnesen and her daughter, Mrs. Leona Dowler of Omaha, were Sunday guests of Mr. and' Mrs. Neis Pedersen. Ricky Applegate had a drawing on display. He is in the eighth grade this year. A tea was served to the moth ers at 2:45 p. m. in the Kinder garten room. Several members of the Fresh man class gave a short play from William Shakespeare's play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." This was presented in the Library at 2:30 p. m. and was directed bv Miss Carolyn Kunkel.- The following young Deople presented the play: Ro berta Knaup, Dean Appling Yvonne Domingo. Weeping Water Armistice uay i Services Held Armistice Day services were conducted bv the American Leg ion Post 237 at the WeeDing Water school grounds on Wed nesday, Nov. 11, at 11:00 a. m. The services were opened by Rev. Roger Grow, chaplain of the American Legion Post, who gave a short prayer. This was followed by talks by Commander Lawrence Houseman, and Mrs. Neil Fitzpatrick, who represent ed the Auxiliary.
