That was the advice of Special City Engineers Hen ningsen, Durham and Richard son to the city council. The engineers explained that use of salt for eliminating iee and snow tends to make the pavement scale and to destroy its permeability. While the city doesn't use salt, but prefers sand, there is some possibility that residents may use salt on the streets for their individual 'troubles. The city asks cooperation of residents along- new paving to refrain from the use of salt for at least two years. Cattle and calves sold strong to 50 cents higher, some up more; butcher hogs bulked at $21-$21.25; and fat lambs clear ed at $17-$19. Among- recent shippers from Cass county are Bobby L. Spang ler, 11 hoes weighing 212 at $21; Myron Wiles, 20 steers weighing 1049 at $25; Schneider & Peter son, 20 hogs weighing 212 at $22.90; Boedeker and Cotting ham, 21 steers weighing 1140 at $27.35; and Clyde Redding, 21 hogs weighing 234 at $21.25. Three Army officers Lt. Col Joseph Siler, Major Milton Hall and Major Arthur Hitchens proved in 1924 that dengue, or break-bone fever, is transmit ted by the mosquito.
