M. Dated Julv 6th. 1953. RAYMOND J. CASE. ' (SEAL) County Judge No. 2208 July 6, 13, 20, 1953 (More Legals on Pape 6) t Corn Uses More Food in Maturing Between knee-high and the tasseling stage, corn plants will use up about 90 per cent of the total summer potash require ments. They will eat up almost 66 per cent of th nitrogen and about 30 per cent, of the phos phate. These figures on the rate of plant food consumption during the time corn grows most rap idly are based on studies made fcv M. L. Jackson, University of Wisconsin soil scientist and for merly a graduate student in agronomy at the University of Nebraska. To make the stalks and ears for a 100-bushel crop, an acre of corn will use up in this 4 to 5 week growth period about 85 pounds of nitrogen out of 140 pounds required for 'the entire, summer. It will consume 95 pounds of potash out of a total of 105 pounds and 15 to 20 pounds -out of the 54 pounds of phosphate needed to make the crop. A shortage of nutrients in this vitally important growth period would mean a big percentage of nubbins, poorly filled kernels and drastically lower yields.
