THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEKLWEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE SIX Monday, June 29, 1953 Platters Score Third Loop Win At Weeping Water Scoring in bursts the Platts- mouth Junior Legion baseball team rolled up a convincing 13-7 league win over inter-county rival Weeping Water Thurs day night. Manager Lindy Wolever's Juniors scored live-run bursts in the second and 6th frames while blasting three Indian hurlers for nine hits, including two extra base blows. John Blotzer, starting hurler, and Leon "Munk" Mullenax teamed up to give Plattsmouth its third loop win against a single loss. Blotzer went the first four innings, with Mullen ax finishing up. Plattsmouth overcame a 2-0 deficit with a five-run outburst in the second frame. Larry Pierce and John Carper also contributed hits during the rally. The indians had taken a 2-0 first ining lead on C. Stacey's double after Blotzer had walked Jim Stacey and Luhring. Weeping Water climbed back into contention in the fourth getting to Blotzer for two more runs. After the pitcher Wade leached first when Wickert let a third strike get by him, two errors, two bases on balls and C. Stacey's second hit chased across the other two runs.' Mullenax came in then to silence the Indians until the seventh. Meanwhile Piatts mouth combed Wade, Hansen and Witt for five more runs in the sixth. Denny Ptak opened the inning with a single, Bar- ney Eiting and Fulton walked ; and Terry Ernst sent two run 1 ners home with a single. Wick ert then drew a base on balls j and Pierce lived on an error : before Schuetz struck out. A walk to Finnefrock and Mullen ax'.s screaming double brought home three more runs to make the score 10-4. It was 13-4 after Plattsmouth scored three more in the sev enth. Fulton walked to open the inning, advanced on a single by Frnst and the sacks were filled when Wickert drew his second base on balls. Fulton and rnst scored wnen fierce was safe cn an error, and Wickert came on around when the third baseman bobbled Schuetz's grounder. Blotzer gave up four hits but walked seven in his four inning stint. He struck out 10. Mul lenax gave up two hits and is sued four bases on balls while whiffing four. Nine Platters went down via the strike out route against the trio of Weep ing Water hurlers. The game is slated for 8:15 at Memorial Athletic Field. Schuetz, bothered by a sore arm during the past two weeks, will be called upon to even the score for Plattsmouth with Om aha teams. He was the loser last week when Metz of Omaha man handled the Platters. Manager Lindv Wolever said he'll start Leon Mullenax Tues day night at Millard. The Mil lard team is currently one of the hottest Junior teams in Eastern Nebraska. John Blotzer will be called upon Friday night to oppose Nebraska City during the July 3rd celebration at Memorial Athletic Field here. Victory grasp of Plattsmoutn Miagets Sunday night as Nebraska City rallied for 111 runs in the fourth inning to take a twelve run lead that netted an 18-8 win. Plattsmouth, tutored by May nard Hobbs, was trailing only by one run when the Otoe coun ty midgets suddenly exploded against Jim Pucelik and Wins cott. Hobb's Midgets scored first in the initial inning as LeRoy Wil son walked and scored on I'd Egenberger"s single. They went ahead briefly' in the fourth inning scoring twice on singles by Pucelik and Ver non kaffenberger and Larry Long's double. That's when Nebraska City rallied for 11 runs and the smacked two homers and a sin gle for the Otoe county crew. Pucelik and Kaffenberger each had two hits for Plattsmouth. They are scheduled for a return con test with Louisville next Wed nesday night, July 8, and are also seeking a game here on Julv 9th. Gates to the giant base will be open early in the morning. The first of four events, a 50-mile race for production model sport cars, begins at 9 a. m. The fea ture race, a 200-mile grind, is scheduled for 3 p. m. This race features the larger cars Italian-made Ferraris and OSCAs, and the English built Jaguars and Allards. Base officials report that spec tator comfort is assured. 25,000 bleacher seats, open on a first come, first served basis, will be set up parallel to the main 5, 700 foot straightway. From the south Highway 73 75, a two-lane concrete high- Kway, leads up from Plattsmouth. Spectators from west of the base are advised to approach the base on Highway 73-75 from either north or south, depending on which east-west road is used. fc Food and beverage conces sions will be located near the track. All food and beverage products sold must meet strict government requirements. More than 20,000 automobiles can be parked on the base. Air Policemen will keep traffic mov ing at a swift pace. Tickets for the event sell for $2 per person. They are on sale in the Omaha area and in many Nebraska cities and towns. They also will be on sale at the gates. Children under 12, accompanied by an adult, will be admitted free of charge. Visitors are invited to attend Sunday morning church services Protestant and Catholic in the base chapel. In addition to the races vis itors will see a display of SAC aircraft and an 'array of rare and striking antique cars, the finest ever assembled in the Midwest. - Over 100 drivers are expected to compete in the races. Entries have already been received from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Illi nois, Missouri, Indiana, Colo rado, Ohio, Connecticut, Michi gan, New York, California, Wis consin, Massachusetts, Louisiana and Texas.
