Out of doors. to Mrs. Lillian Freeman of Wattsmouth: Tic flower, now in tloom, was raised bv Mrs. Freeman from a bulbi given to her by Miss Marv Bookmeyer, biology teacher at North high school in Omaha. The"bulb had been given to Miss Booltmeyer by a student. Miss Bookmeyer and Mrs. Freeman are sisters. if Raising the flower has, been a nev experience for Mrs. Free man; who explained that this is the -first time, the flower has been' in bloom since she started raising it. The eastern tropical plant, na tive', of India, is' borne on a single hollow stem, more than an inch thick and three to four fect'high. It grows from a large buliiiike tuber, which sometimes measures 10 inches in diameter. the plant will presumably be much larger. Secret Pals Are Revealed Monday By Theta Rho Girls Revealing names of secret pals was a feature of a Theta Rho Girls party held Monday night at the IOOF hall. Names of the girls Rebekah secret pals were told. .. An exchange of gifts was held and prizes were awarded for games. Decorations carried out the patriotic theme. Announce Daughter's Enffaofement Eastern Star Fetes District Officers At Dinner Tuesday Home Chapter No. 189, Order of Eastern Star, was honored Tuesday, February 24, by a visit of District Supervisor Mrs. Agnes Bowman of Omaha, supervisor of District No. 5. A school of instruction was held in the afternoon for all officers and at 6:30 a dinner was served at the O. E. ST dining room, honoring Mrs. Bowman and the new officers. The dinner was served by past worthy ma trons Mrs. Nell Hamblen, Mrs. Katherine Glaze, Mrs. Mary Bev erage and Mrs. Irma Sullivan. The chapter presented Mrs. Bowman a lovely corsage and also presented a corsage to Wor thy Matron Mrs. Juanita Bren del. At eight o'clock the regular meeting of Home Chapter was held. Approximately 100 mem bers were present. Lunch was served in the dining room fol lowing the meeting. The committee has expressed deep satisfaction in obtaining Mrs. Sturges as a judge. She is a talented painter, and has placed many of her works in Omaha exhibits. Local ar tists are invited to enter paint ings in oils, water colors, char coal, crayon, chalk, pastels, tempera, pencil or pen and ink. Divisions are being conducted for a high school group and two grade school divisions in addition to the adult group. Ceramics and soap sculptures will also be on display at the exhibit. The council works closely with superintendent Burke on mat ters of administration affecting teachers in the Omaha system. Mr. McQuinn holds a bachelor of science degree from Peru State Teachers college and a master of science degree from Cmaha University. He is a bro ther of Lcwell McQuinn, Plattsmouth. Phil Haldeman Suffers Heart Attack Monday Phil Haldeman, proprietor of Phil's Tavern here, suffered a heart attack Monday and is re ceiving treatment at St. Joseph hospital in Omaha.
