t4 iyvrv i -THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL -PAGE SIX Dairymen Regain League Lead; Standings Altered ' Alamito Dairy returned to the top of the Plattsmouth Bowling League standings after an ab sence of ten weeks, by taking its three game series with Art & Minnie's tavern, while Ernies Bar, leader for the past ten weeks, bowed to Tim's Bar, three games to none. - Carl Hula and Bob Gall com bined to turn back the League leaders by rolling 158 and 561 series. Hula had games of 190, 183 and 185, while Gall posted 211, 192 and 158 games. Led by Hula and Gall, Tim's twice pas sed the 800 game mark with 807 and 808, and barely missed on Jhe other with 79'. Their 2404 series was one of the top series of the season. Despite the bril liant bowling, the team drew a 2 to 8 pin handicap. M. Hodge posted a 520 series and a 192 game for the losers. Although giving 79 pins, Ala mito had little difficulty with Art & Minnies. Cliff Meisinger and Al Fairfield with 505 and 5C3 series led the league lead ers. Meisinger had a 194 game, u-hile Fairfield hit a 184 game. George Winscot also came through for the Dairymen with a 189 game. J. Dietl led the los ers. - Conoco remained in third place by tripping the American Legion two games to one. Jack Keno and Earl Allbee led the Oil Magnates with 463 and 438 series. Allbee had a 183 game. Top game honors went to Joe Case of the Legion with a 442 series. Conoco is now tied for ; third with Tim's Bar. Nehawka, with Tom Johnson hitting 10 of 15 gift tosses, came through with 17 of 288, while Weeping Water was hitting only 8 of 26. Meanwhile-Salestrom's crew outscored Nehawka from the floor, 20-15. Nehawka broke into an early lead with Raymond Mayfield, Alvin Turner and Johnson scoring heavily to take a 17-11 first period lead. Weeping Water closed the gap, however,, in the second period and trailed only 26-27 at intermission. Free throws in the third per iod enabled the Nehawka crew to hold on but Weeping Water fashioned a one-point,' 39-38 margin after three quarters. Schiessler's crew battjed back to tie at the end of regulation play but bowed in the overtime. Jim Stacey captured scoring honors by hitting 19 on 8 field goals and 3 gift tosses for the Weeping Water quintet. Ray mond Mayfield led Nehawka with 16 while Johnson added 14 more. Nehawka Rally Nels63-57Vin From Of oe Caaers Overcoming a 21-30 halftime deficit. Nehawka struck a blist ering nace and went on to defeat Otoe 63-57 in a non-conference battle Friday night. Unable to ston Otoe Center Ron Witt. Coach Ted Schiessler's crew settled for all-around team scoring to produce the extra points. Otoe, raced by Witt, climbed into a 15-11 first quarter lead and was in front 30-21 at half time. That's when Nehawka went to work. Scoring 20 points on 10 field goals, while holding Otoe to 8 ooints. Coach Schiessler's crew forged a 41-38 marein at the three quarter mark. Tom John son and Raymond Mayfield gunned the Nehawka attack. The Cass count ians refused to cool off in the final neriod and poured another 22 points through the net as Mayfield and Johnson continued to hit regu larly. - Johnson took top scoring hon ors for Nehawka with 20 points, all on field goals, while Mayfield came through with 17. Rounding out the scoring were Alvin Tur ner, 12; Jed Snyder, 9; and Dale Bruns, 5. Witt was the individual scor ing leader with 31 to lead Otoe. Nehawka hit 28 field goals and added 7 of 20 gift tosses, while Otoe hit 19 fielders and 19 of 31 gift tosses. Nehawka meets St. Bernard Academv of Nebras ka City Tuesday night. Eagle nipped Avoca in a tightly fought Cass Countv Conference battle Tues day night 39-37. It was the first conference win for Eagle against three losses, and the third loss for Avoca against one win. Coach Bill Mickelson's Avoca Cardinals broke away in the first period and seemed bound tor its second loop win by build ing a 6-1 first quarter lead, but Eagle struck back with 15 points to knot the count at 16-all at halftime. ' Both teams came through with 15 points during the thrill ing third quarter as the count remained tied at 31-31. Four field goals for Eagles against one field goal and 4 gift tosses for Avoca provided the winning margin in the final period. Schmidt and "Weyers led the winning Eagle quintet with 14 points each while Kropp came through with 10 more. Ayers hit one and Stubbs and Umland failed to score. Merlyn Mlnderman led the Cardinals with 11 points but was hard pressed by Wayne Wessel and Fritz Ruhge with 10 each. Bob Noerrllnger added six more, while Dick Meyer was shut out. Eagle heavily outscored Avoca from the field 19-12 but gave ground from the free throw line where Coach Dudley Allen's boys hit only 5 of 21. Avoca con verted 13 of 33 gift attempts. Avoca was called for 11 viola tions and Eagle 18. Eagle's Kropp missed 10 straight free throw attempts, and -Avoca's Ruhge came thr ough on only 4 of 16. The Plattsmouth-Ashland game is slated for 6:30. Prior to the game, Valley and College View, and Blair and Westside will square off in the top bracket of the opening round. The Bellevue-Wahoo fray will conclude Wednesday play. . - The three-day tournament, which opens Wendesday at 3 p. m. will decide the conference champion in tournament play. Semi-finals will be held Thurs day night with the finals sched uled for Friday night.
