' r" ALVO Mrs. Mabelle Winn, Correspondent Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner Is Held Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vickers, Mr. and Mrs. Shorty Fifer and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Fischer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ev erett Ayers and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Rogers and little daughter and Miss Emma Jor dan, drove to Beatrice Sunday to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith to celebrate their Thanksgiving. Aivo Mr. and Mrs. Fuller and two daughters and Mrs. Fuller's niece, Miss Beverly Witt from Lincoln, were Sunday afternoon callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Skinner. Mrs. Mattie Skinner was lucky in a Dot counting contest and won a certificate amounting to one hundred and five dollars to be applied on different mer chandise. Mrs. Kenneth Gardner enter tained at a party Thursday night with twelve ladies pres ent. Several won prizes. Mrs. Gardner served a delicious lunch. Mrs. Grace Brunkow received a letter from Mrs. Nelson last week. She is a little better. All her sisters and brothers have been to visit her. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Reuter were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fairfield and Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Adams and daughters and Mrs. Esther Clark and sons were Sunday ?uests of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Girtner and Clark at Unadilla. Alvo Entertain Double Deck Pinochle Club Miss Martha Dettmer enter tained the Double Deck pinochle club at her home in Havelock Wednesday at a hobo party. There were some old timers there. Mrs. Mattie Skinner and Mrs. Edith Braun tied for the prize for the worst looking ho boes. They drew for the prize and Mattie won it. There were three tables of players. Mrs. Ula Westlake was a visitor. High score was won by Mrs. Hazel Mickel, second high by Mrs. Cora Klyver, low score by Mrs. Ula Westlake. Martha used Comic papers for table covers and served lunch in men's handker chiefs with a napkin inside. The lunch, an apple, some grapes, sandwiches, pickle and cookies. She also served pumpkin pie with whipped cream later. Ev eryone had a wonderful time. The next party is the Christmas party the sixteenth of Decem ber with Mabelle Winn. Several from Alvo attended the funeral of the little son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stillwell and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reuter Saturday at Syra cuse. Mr. Lee Prouty from Montana was a dinner guest Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hardnock. Pfc. Kendall Dimmitt was vis iting some of his boy friends Saturday before going back to camp Thursday. AlVO Reading Club Meets Thursday The Woman's Reading Club met at the home of Mrs. Wm. Copple Thursday, November 20. The program was in charge of Mrs. A. B. Stroemer and Mrs. Ollie Mayfield. It was on Christ mas decorations and gift ideas. Demonstrations were given on making candles and Christmas corsages. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Ralph Dreamer and Mrs. Harold Timblin. ing a respirator for Children's Memorial hospital. Boy Celebrates 5th Birthday Little Wesley Harrah was celebrating his fifth birthday one day last week by visiting the Primary room. In the late after .noon his mother brought treats of cupcakes and candy for all the children in Mrs. Wolf's room. Frank Anderson showed pictures he had taken of f.ome of the youngsters. Union Ladies Help Organize Unit A new Auxiliary unit organ ized at Hallam. Nebraska. Mrs. Harry Gobelman. Mrs. Charles Attebury and Mrs. Daniel Mosier of Hickman, Nebraska, went to Hallam, Nebraska last week and organized a new Auxiliary .unit. Mrs. M. J. Rocke was installed as president. A Legion Post had I just been organized there last May. I'nlon Cass County Auxiliary meet ing was held Tuesday evening, November 18th at Nchawka, Ne braska. Those attending from Union were Mrs. Charles Atte bury, Mrs. Harry Gobelman, Mrs. Earl Wolfe, Mrs. Mabel Wolfe and Mrs. Fred Clark. Nannie Warden returned to her heme at Nehawka last week after having spent over six weeks at the tinier Pike home. Melvin Todd and daughter Nancy and Mis. L. G. Todd drove to Omaha last Thursday even ing where they called on the E. M. Rathe family. Union Turkey Served At School Lunch The Union School Lunch Room had their Thanksgiving dinner served last Thursday. There were two 22-pound tur keys prepared with all the "trimmings," which made quite a feast for the 91 youngsters and adults. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson, Mrs. South and Mrs. Collier were invited guests. Union Little Jimmy Morris of Mur ray attended services at the Methodist church last Sunday. Mrs. Earl Upton was able to return home last Saturday af ter being a patient at the Meth odist hospital for a week. .HE PLATTSMOUTH. NEBRASKA. SKUNK EXTERMINATION A farmer near Bridgeport has a new method for killing skunks. When Leonard Peterson found a skunk near his home, he lass oed it with a piece of twine and dragged it away from his house before killing it. There were sixteen mem bers and three children present. Mrs. Howard Snodgrass read the report of the National Conven tion as given by our District President, Mrs. Charles Atte bury, who had attended as a page from Nebraska. Mrs. Harry Gobelman stated that Nebraska leads in the membership quota and that there is a shortage of beds in the Veteran's hospitals. Mrs. Robert Harrah, Jr., gave an ar ticle on Radio and Mrs. Robert Harrah, Sr., one on Publicity.
