AleA DlU TrOtTl WlSGOm S rOth that can happen is to abandon- wisdom once you have found it. This is forcefully illustrated in the history of King Solomon, re putedly the author of the Book j of Proverbs, and reputedly "the wisest man who ever lived." At least two great and noble , incidents are recorded of Solomon, j and if all his life and action had been in accordance with these he 1 surely would have deserved the ' fullest of his reputation for vvis ; dom. j The one incident was the dream recorded in I Kings 3:5-12, in which, asrtd to choose whatever he desired from the Lord, he spoke in deep humility and asked, above all things, for an understanding heart to exercise good judgment and rule his people well. HThe other outstanding incident was his prayer at the dedication of the Temple. Perhaps, like some addresses of ether , kings and rulers, it was written for him by some religious leader of saintly spirit and prophetic insight. But by delivering it Solomon made it hi3 own, and if he had continued j in the letter and spirit of that j prayer he might have gone down in history as famous for his good ness and wisdom as he is for the outward splendor of his reign. f Jfi Instead Solomon took to him self many wives. Not content with the building of the Temple, he built for himself. In a great pal ace he surrounded himself with riches and luxury for which the' i fironln naid in ouorcssive taxes. Bearing it all while Solomon lived, they rebelled w hen his son Iteho boam succeeded him. ""' . ' ij Solomon in the early part of W reign stands as a line example d exhortation to wisdom. - But in the latter part he stands ' as a solemn warning of what hap pens to a man. even a great one, when he departs from wisdom.' They also like weeds to eat, but since corn . fields are rlean this year, they; are working on the corn plants, j Another misfit Is the common stock borer, which likes corn and stemmy weeds, was report- cd raising a rumpus with pota- to vines. An analysis of this situatir n is this: An abundance of weeds in 1951, due to the wet season, allowed a heavy popu lation of those pests to build up. A shorter crop of weeds in 1952 drove them to feed on ag ricultural crops. Pirjs don't need lights! A re- i cent study revealed that artifi cial liphts are not needed for pi?s.
