Walker, Lincoln, grandmother of Mrs. Vance Bal four, was a week end guest at their home. Marilyn Kemp, Wesleyan stu dent, was a recent week end guest at the Harry Knabe home. Nehawka Farm Bureau Unit Meets The first meeting of the Ne hawka unit of the Cass County farm bureau was held at the Vance Balfour home with ten members present Thursday eve ning. Officers were reelected except the vice president. Frank Warden is the new vice presi dent and takes the place of Malcolm Pollard. Glen Thacker presided. Resolutions were dis cussed and adopted. Mrs. Bal four entertained the wives of the members at canasta. Mrs. Vance Balfour and Mrs. Carl Balfour served refreshments. Nehawka - Staff Sgt. Henry House, Rap id City, S. D., visited last week with his sister, Mrs. Wm. Getch ius and Mr. Getchius. Mr. and Mrs. Getchius and their guest visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hall at Malvern, Iowa. - Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross were among the World War I veterans who were entertained at dinner Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kempkes at Dunbar. Pollard were Mr. and Mrs. John Steffens, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Oren Pol lard, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolph, Mr. and Mrs. George Sheldon and Mrs. Ernest Pol lard. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hansen and son, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ross were dinner guests at the Clarence Ross home at Union Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ross at tended the square dance club at Elmwood Thursday evening. Nehawka NAME DAUGHTER Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Ross have named their daughter Melissa Anne. Mrs. A. R. Block, Longmont, Colo., and Mrs. A. Ross, Nebraska City, are assist ing at the Ross home. Recent callers were Mr. and Mrs. Ron ald Martin and family, Nebras ka City, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Harshman and sons. Nehawka Points Of Interest In East Visited Mr. and Mrs. Louie Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson returned late Sunday from a trip to the east. They visited the Anderson's son, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Anderson, Mt. Ranier, Md. Among the points of in terest were Arlington cemetery, a session of congress with Vice President Alvin Barkley pre siding, a ferry boat ride on Chesapeake Bay, West Point Academy at Annapolis. On the trip to Washington they visited Lincoln's home at Springfield, Relatives and friends were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ross Friday evening at cards honoring Mrs. Ross on her birthday.'- " ' . S. at her home Wednesday afternoon. . Mrs. George McFadden and Mrs. R. Curtwright assisted. Devotions were given by Mrs. Wildon Swit-zer. Mrs. Elmer Stoll, directress. displayed a number of useful articles to be sold and the pro ceeds to go to the general fund. Mrs. Ona Kunkel presided for Mrs. John Hansen, who was dis abled by an injury to her knee. A covered dish supper and re ception was planned for the teachers and the minister and his family. Mrs. Melvln Sturm, program chairman, spoke on "Human Rights." She told of the good deeds by the foreign missions to the Korean families. She also discussed the rights of the col ored people. The meeting was closed with prayer. Refreshments were served. Nehawka Denver, Northwest Trip Completed Mrs. E. A. Nutzman and her mother, Mrs. C. D. St. John, re turned Wednesday from a month's trip to Denver and the northwest states. In Denver they visited Mrs. Nutzman's daughter, Mildred. At Brush, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Will Aug ust, Jr., accompanied them to Salem, Oregon, where they vis ited with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. St. John and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Taylor. At Forest Grove, Ore, they visited Mr and Mrs. Wm. Adler, cousins of Mrs. St. John; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ing wersen at Eugene, Ore.; at Cheshire, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Cisney and family; at Clark -ston. Wash., Mr. and Mrs. How ard Johnson, formerly Mary Lou Taylor. They came home through Spokane, Wash., and Montana, and stopped at Den ver. Nehawka Teachers Feted By W.S.C.S. Sunday A covered dish supper and a program later was sponsored by the W. S. C. S. honoring the teachers of the Nehawka school and Rev. Fred Gardner and family Sunday evening. One hundred attended. Mrs. Ruth Lundberg and Mrs. Wildon Swit zer were program chairmen. Musical numbers were cornet solo by Eugene Hebard, duets by Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Carsten of Avoca; duet by Judy Dodson and Suzy Switzer, piano solo by Roger Dodson. There were also two readings by Marilyn Kemp, Wesleyan student. r Nehawka Coloradoans Are Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reinhart and sons, Jim and Jerry, Fort Mor gan. Colo.; Leo August, Brush, Colo., came Friday to spend several days with Mrs. E. A. Nutzman and the August fam ilies. On Sunday they were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Gregg at Murray. Other guests were Will August, Sr., Mrs. Alice Plybon, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson and family. World."' Nehawka Harold Pollard Notes Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Pollard entertained at dinner Sunday for their son, Harold's birthday, which occurred Monday. She brought a numberof Mr. Waddell's friends from Lin coln to be with him on his birth day. Mrs. Martin Ross received word of the birth of a daugh ter to her niece, Mrs. Harry Kahn and Mr. Kahn of Brevard, N. C. Marionette Show Miss Marjorie Shanafelt and her Marionettes, Lincoln, enter tained a large crowd at the auditorium Saturday evening. She was sponsored by the Jun ior and Senior Women's clubs and gave an hour of delightful entertainment. The puppets were from 34 to 48 inches high. weighed from 12 to 14 pounds j and all were made by Miss : Shanafelt. They were beau- i tifully costumed. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wieck- norst and Judy, Mr. and Mrs. Hennmg Johnson and Tommy were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson at Talmage. Callers at the Ralph Wieck horst home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Easter and family, Union; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gansemer and family, Murray; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wunderlich. Nehawka Attend Orthopedic Meeting Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wieck horst and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Berger attended the meeting of the Clinical Orthopedic Society In Omaha Saturday. The clinic met in Omaha through the in vitation of Dr. Robert Schrock, professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Nebraska. Two hundred doctors were pres ent from the midwest from Mex ico to Canada. There was a Ca nadian doctor there and also one from Cuba. Pictures of their patient's injuries were shown. Mr. Wieckhorst and Mr. Berger were very much encouraged from their observance of sim ilar cases to theirs and the prog ress they themselves had made. Robert and Paul Sand, Lin coln; Dorothy Sand, Omaha, were home Saturday for the day. Peggy Sand, student at Mt. St. Scholastica, Atchison, Kan., was home for the week end.
