Phone 5176 Public Sale Held Thursday A public sale lasting nearly three hours was held by George Kunz on Thursday afternoon, Ellis Lacy of Avoca and Rex Young of Plattsmouth being the auctioneers. Mr. Kunz had things in fine shape although he is handicapped by his crip pling arthritis. He was ably as sisted by Albert Kunz. From his former mechanical occupation there were many items, includ ing auto accessories. He felt satisfied with the gratifying re sults. Elmwooa Clarence Ohm and Marion McCrory are painting the former Boyles residence, which the present owner, Mr. Bornemeier is making ready for occupancy in the late autumn. Kim wood Sixteen Scouts . - At Elmwood Are Initiated Thursday evening was a not able one for our Boy Scout troop. It was the time when they were formally initiated into full membership. There were 16 of them, and their officers, Rev. Overton Turner, George Bless ing. Ted Hall, Paul Husar, and Welling Dennis were present, as well as parents and other in terested persons. Greenwood troop of 16 boys and their lead ers were the ceremonial offi cials. Their Scoutmaster, Mr. Gordon, lead in the exercises, which consisted of the Scout candlelighting ceremony, and which included giving many of their principles. A talk was given by Mr. Henry of Nebraska City who is the field represent ative of this district. But previ ous to the ceremonies a feature of the program was given by the daughters and granddaugh ters of Union Veterans of Lin coln, Mrs. Alice Reynolds being the leader. They marched and presented an exercise by ten ladies each bearing a flag of America showing the history of Old Glory, from early colonial davs. And as a beautiful sur prise they presented the troop here with a large flag mounted on a standard. With the pianist those visitors numbered 12. The charter was presented to Ed Earnst, trustee for the Christian church, where meetings are held and he gave it to the Scout troop -leaders. The evening closed with a social time when coffee, wafers and soft drinks were served. Elmwood Creamers Visit At Culbertson Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Creamer visited their daughter and fam ily, the Gerald Churchills, at Culbertson this week. Staying at their farm during their ab sence were his mother, Mrs Clara Creamer, and his sisters Maud and Jessie. Klmwood Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eiters are now located in Jacksonville, Fla., where Mr. Eilers,,A. A., is in training in the naval air sta tion. Mrs. Eilers, the former Marion Pratt, is an assistant manager of the school lunch program. She plans menus and helps supervise twenty helpers where they serve 2,350 lunches a day. Flmwood Annual Sunset Dinner Party Is Held Tuesday The annual sunset party din ner was held at the Methodist church on Tuesday. October 2. Rev. Adams, the efficient pro moter for the ten meetings held since October 1942 was in charge in general. Fifty-nine persons enioyed the banquet at the tables and there were 23 din ners sent to shut-ins. Oldest men present were John Gon zales, 93, and M. S. Briggs, 92. Oldest woman present was Mrs. Josie Miller. 86. Greetings were presented from Mrs. Wiegert and Wm. John, who were in their homes, the former now living with Mrs. Fred Wilken. Afternoon hymn singing was lead by Rev. Overton Turner with Mrs. N. Bornemeier at the piano. Miss Ward lead in the prayer and Rev. Adams gave de votional thoughts. A vote of appreciation was taken for the many who assisted in the work entailed and for Mr. and Mrs. Harry Linder through whose generosity the entire group was invited to a free en tertainment at the Elmwood theater. The plays, "The Ras cals" and "Molly" of the Gold bergs were enjoyed. Charles Nelson J Breaks Leg At Work In Omaha Charles Nelson, 41, of Platts mouth, suffered a broken leg last week when a sack of sugar fell on him at John J. Meier and Company, in Omaha, where he is err,ployed. Mr. Nelson was taken to the County hospital by the Fire De partment Rescue squad after the mishap. Later he was transferred to St. Joseph's hos pital. He is reported improv ing. Father Assigned To German Camp Chaplain Russel L. Shay, fa ther of Mrs. Ruth Shay Biery of Plattsmouth, has been assigned as Wing Chaplain to the 7100th Headquarters Support Wing, Camp Lindsey, at Wiesbaden in Germany. Previously he had served at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. SARPY SOIL DISTRICT ELECTS Alois Gramlich and Clarence Iske, both of Ft. Crook, have been relected supervisors of the Sarpy County Soil Conservation District. They will serve for four-years. Orval Kah ler and George Hull of Platts mouth, and Leland Krecklow of Greenwood, drove to Grinnell, Iowa, Friday to attend Cargill's open house. In the morning they observed the plant in full operation, and were guests at a noon luncheon. The afternoon was spent in specting seed fields, test plots and results of the new ferti lizers. Twenty-Six At Dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grun wald and daughter Phyllis hon ored their son and brother, Dwayne, last Sunday, by giving a family dinner to 26 guests who came from Lincoln, Ashland, Millard, Plattsmouth, Murray, Nehawka, Union and Nebraska City. Dwayne is leaving next Wednesday, October 3rd for the east coast where he will be sent overseas.
