Sheriff Tom Solomon "ir Depntv Sheriff Kenneth Dunlap clocked the defendant at speeds up to 85 miles an hour Auburn Tilt Nears; Gridders Step Up Tempo Defensive and offensive units of the Plattsmouth football team tattled each other throughout long steady scrim mage sessions as Coach Merle Stewart stepped up the tempo for the local gridders this week.. Taking advantage of only one-half day school Tuesday. Stewart sent his offensive and defensive units throueh a long afternoon session, while Assist ant Coach Eugene Shields work ed with the B team. Mixing up the two units, while still seeking that scoring com bination. Stewart worked on both running and passing plays. Both the wing and T formations were used. For early in the season, tack ling looked pood while blocking was particularlv brisk. Backs have been running hard and a nolished aerial cifense is in the making. Wirh only four days left in which to prepare for the home opener with Autnrn. Septem ber 14. there is still a lot of polishing needed. With school now underway grid activity is expected to settle down. Stewart and Shields have been splitting the croo of 50 can didates, while Stewart handles the reins for the first team unit. Vbdwivka (Mrs. F. O. Sand) Alvo To Open Defense Of Cass Crown At Union Alvo. defending champion of Cass county six -man grid teams, crown against Union. September 14. with prospects as bright as ever. Only one letterman is lost from the 1950 team that drop- pea only one of nine contests. Coach Ollie Mayfield is seek ing a game for September 21, to complete a nine-game schedule. After the opener at Union, Alvo will play at Ceresco, Sep tember 23; will be host to Ben net, October 5. and Liberty, Oc tober 12. They play at Gretna October 19. and are host to Elm wood, October 24. They'll wind up their schedule at home against Nehawka, November 2 and Sterling, November 9. Jim Doody To Kearney For School Jim Doody departed Tuesday Kearney State Teachers College. Jim has spent the summer here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Doody. He was employ ed as life guard at a local beach. Mrs. Fitch Is Hostess To Club Mrs. Elmer Fitch entertained the Mix It Extension club at her home Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Dale Topliff assisted her. Miss Carol Fierstene of the American Cancer Foundation of Omaha gave a talk on cancer. Eleven members were present. Mrs. Sterling Ross was present ed with a baby stroller from the club members. Nehawka Belated Birthday Party Is Held Linda and Ronald Jose en tertained their schoolmates at a birthday party on Tuesday, August 21. It was a belated party for Linda since the chil dren had whooping cough when she was 5, July 13. Ronald was 6 August 21. There were games, a birthday cake and refresh ments. They received attrac tive gifts. Nehawka Mr. and Mrs. George Lutz, Lawrence and Peter, were Sun day evening visitors at the F. O. Sand home and enjoyed mov ies of Korea, which were taken by Blaine Sloan. Mr., and Mrs. A. W. Gordon returned Sunday from Sheri dan, Wyo., and were guests for the day Tuesday of their daugh ter, Mrs. Robert Wunderlich and family. Miss Evelyn Wolph, Mrs. Will Ost, Mrs. George Sheldon and Mrs. Marion Tucker were lunch eon guests Wednesday noon of Mrs. Lois Tefft at Avoca. The luncheon honored Mrs. Charles Hutchins, Hawthorne, Cal., who with her granddaughter, Sandra Nutt, are visiting Mrs. Hutch in's mother, Mrs. Anna Norris and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Forest Jose, Sterling, returned home after a week's visit at the Everett Jose home. Vchpwka Paving Nehawka Road Underway Paving of the mile of road between the highway and Ne hawka is underway. The work i was started a month ago. The j resurfacing will consist of eight inches ' of rolled crushed stone and two inches of asphalt con crete. Charles McFadden Notes Birthday Charles McFadden was 9l Sunday. Nehawka McReynolds Visit At Auburn Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McRey nolds drove to Auburn Sunday afternoon and with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kiechel were luncheon guests at the home of Mrs. Addie Martin where they enjoyed a visit with Mrs. Vina Kiechel who recently celebrated her 90th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Kiechel is mother of Mr. Kiechel and Mrs. Martin is a cousin of Mrs. McReynolds.
