9 THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEMI-WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Section B Thursday, August 30, 1951 " u t REV. ROBERT II. HARPER Jesus and His Ministry Luke 4: 14-22; 19: 19; Mark 10: 45; John 3: 16. Memory Selection: Mark 10: 45. IN THE EARLY DAYS of his ministry Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been reared. Given the opportunity to read in the synagogue, he read a passage from Isaiah that Jesus applied to him self. He had come to preach to the poor, to set at liberty the cap tives, to give sight to the blind, and to heal those that were bruised. Another time he stated his mis sion thus: "The Son of man is come to seek and to save that vhich was lost." There is an in teresting use of the tenses in the foregoing sentence. Jesus is come and is present now in every place of need, to seek and to save that which was lost. Following a strife between the disciples as to which of them should be the greatest in the king dom. Jesus bade them ta ho as servants, even as the Son of man had come, not to be ministered unto, but to minister, end to give his life a ransom for many. The sacrificial element is needed to glorify the witness to Christ and to make it successful. All the labors of Jesus for the salvation of men are to be traced to the divine love which sent Jesus to rartb: "For God so loved the world " This great verse has been Strikingly called the '-little Bible." The whole of the Bible may be compressed into that one verse. Let us make sure that we accept the Gift of God"s love, and minis ter it unto others. OUR CHURCHES CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES "Christ Jesus" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon which will be read in Christian Science churches throughout the world on Sunday, September 2, 1951. "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called. THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." (Jeremiah 23:5, 6.
