Union Mrs. L. G. Todd Sixteen Attend W.S.C.S. Meeting The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service met at the home of the president, Mrs. Jack Court ney on June 23 with Mrs. Clara Swan as co-hostess. Sixteen members and the following guests were present: Mrs. Wm. Porter, Miss Joan Swan and Miss Barbara Garrens. Mrs. Robert Harrah presented the new year books which had been printed by her daughter. Mrs. Joe Drea man of Nebraska City. After all business Jiad been taken care of, the president presented Miss Barbara Garrens, who had been sent to Girls State at Lincoln in June. Barbara gave us such a fine report, helping us to un derstand more fully what Girls State really means to the girls i who attend. Barbara covered j every subject, as she exper-j ienced her different duties each day. Hostesses served lovely re freshments at the close of the meeting. Union John McQuin has accepted a pastorate recently and is preaching at Nemaha each Sun day morning. Charles Anderson and wife of Brule, Nebr., and Vernon Flesh mann and wife of Ogallala, Nebr., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson last week. The guests also visited rela tives in Plattsmouth, Nehawka and Nebraska City. Rev. Mitchell was calling on some of his Union parishoners last Friday afternoon. 1 in ion Union 4-H Cooks Bake Cup Cakes The Union 4-H Cooks met at the home of Jackie Brown on June 27th. Five members were absent. We are sorry to lose a member, Betty Lou True, who has moved into the country. Virginia Sagehorn, a cousin of Barbara Banning, was a wel come guest. We baked cup cakes and t6ok our own sand wiches. Judy Surface and Jack ie Brown, as hostesses, served Ice cream and koolade, which was served on the lawn. Next meeting will be at the home of Barbara Banning. Sharon Lee Neeld, secretary. t.'nion Lindseys Are Hosts At Dinner On Sunday, July 1st, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Lindsey entertain ed the following guests to din ner in honor of Mrs. Lou Rear den of California: Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Garrison, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Snodgrass, Mrs. Nina Upton, and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Madsen. Mrs. Rearden is the mother of Mrs. Madsen and was a Union resident a number of years ago. l-nion Mrs. C. E. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brannon and family picnicked at Wau bonsie Park on the 4th of July Union BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Don Wolfe are the proud parents of a baby girl born on Monday, July 9th at St. Mary's hospital at Nebraska City. Union Ralph Surface has entered the Veterans' hospital at Lincoln lor observation and treatment. Union Picnic Honors Robert Snodgrass Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Fox of Geneva joined with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Snodgrass and spent the 4th of July picnicking at Waubonsie Pa rk. The picnic also honored Robert Snodgrass of Nebraska City, who was hav ing a birthday that day. Union Mrs. George Clark and little son and daughter visited the husband and father, George Clark at the Veterans' hospital at Lincoln. ' Mrs. Jim Finkle is spending a few days at the home of Mr and Mrs. John McQuin Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Garri son entertained at a 7 o'clock dinner recently honoring Mrs Lou Reardon of California. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Nutzman and baby son of Nehawka were eve ning callers. Gets Riders To Omaha With One Classified Ad Within two hours after his classified ad appeared in the Plattsmouth Journal, J. W. Phillips had all the answers he wanted. Running: an ad in which he sought riders to Omaha at 6 a. m., Phillips had three rid ers within two hours after his ad was on the street.
