THE PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA, SEN! I -WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE TWO Section B Thursday, May 31, 1951 REV. ROBERT H. HARPER The Southern Kingdom. 11 Kings 18: 1-7; UmUb 31: 1-?. Memory Selection: Ps!ms 46:10. IK THE DIVISION of the king dom of David and Solomon, the Southern Kingdom cf Judafc. fcad several points of superiority over the Northern Kingdom. Judah had the reigning house of David, which kept the throne until the end. Jerusalem was a strong city for a capital. "Within it was the mag nificent temple. It is not strange that the Southern Kingdom en dured for more than a century after the downfall of the Northern Kingdom. While there were wicked kings who did evil in the sight of the 'Lord, there were several great rulers in the succesion of Darid. Prominent among these was Her ekiah. the "good king." He cleansed the land cf idolatry, and even destroyed the brazen serpent, that Moses had lifted tip in the wilderness, because it had become an object of superstitious venera tion. Hessekiah boldly resisted the Assyrians, and God delivered him Ircrr. the host of Sennacherib be fore Jerusalem by a dread visita tion that destroyed the troops. Greater than Hezekiah was the rurhrr rropbet Isaiah. Tireless in ius efforts to preserrt the nation, he was especially active against alliance with Egypt, r.ot only be cause it was the land of his peo ple's bondage and should hare been Abhorrent but also because depend ence upon an earthly power would rupplar.t trust in Jehovah. Let us m our own needs today leam to trust God above all OUR CHURCHES CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES Sixth Street and zna Ave. Morning service at 11 o'clock "Ancient and Modern Ne cromancy. Other Bible citations include, "And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I east out before you: And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the Lord am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine." (Leviticus 20:23). The Lesson-Sermon also in cludes the following passage from the Christian Science text book. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. "Animal magnetism has no scientific foundation, for God governs all that is real, har monious, and eternal, and His power is neither animal nor hu man. Its basis being a belief and this belief animal, in Science animal magnetism, mesmerism, or hypnotism is a mere negation, possessing neither intelligence, power, nor reality, and in ser.ss it is an unreal concept of the so-called mortal mind."
