Recent guests of Mrs. Nettie Mendenhall were Mrs. Ratnour, Mrs. Lenker, Mrs. Worman and Mrs. Wm. James, all of Weeping Water, Elm-wood State President Farm Bureau Speaker The May meeting of the Farm Bureau was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pool, with 22 members present Thurs day evening. Chas. Marshall, state president of the organiza tion was the speaker. His sub ject was the fundamentals and policies of the Farm Bureau. Elm wood On Wednesday school was dis missed in the afternoon and the pupils and some of the parents had the pleasure of seeing the Shrine Circus at the coliseum on the state fair grounds. Monday, a goodly number at tended the Parents Day pro gram in the primary room in the afternoon. Miss Mook had trained the pupils for the pup pet program and other features and some of the work was ex hibited. Phone 6111 Enjoy Historical Society Meeting Elmwood - Mr. and Mrs. Fred Linhardt were in Nebraska City on Wed nesday. On the return Mrs. Linhardt stopped at Union and attended the afternoon program of the County Historical Society. Those who attended this meet ing and the luncheon at noon were Mrs, C. R. Eveland, Mrs. Gustin, Mrs. Rosenkoetter, Mrs. Plybon, Myrtle Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Leavitt, Mrs. Chas. Marshall and Ed Bornemeier. They appreciated hearing the history of the town, the post of- iice, the citizens and the churches, and the talk about orchards by Mr. Banning. Elmwood On Sunday. May 6, Mr. and Mrs. Preston observed their 20th wedding anniversary at the home of her brother, Chet Campbell, near Ashland. It was a double celebration as Mr. and Mrs. Campbell's anniversary was on that day, the Prestons being the day before. Mrs. Nettie Mendenhall spent the week end at Diller where on Monday she attended a mother-daughter banquet with ner daughter, Mrs. Claude Hew itt and her granddaughter's. On Sunday they enjoyed the bac calaureate evening services, when Marjory Hewitt sang in the double quartette. Eldest, Youngest Mother Honored On Sundav at the Methodist Mother's Day service, Mrs. Clara creamer was honored as the oldest mother present and Mrs. Ramona Jones Jpnsnn as th youngest mother. They received decorated Mother's Day poem DOOKietS. Elmwood Lightning Strikes Church; Lady Falls The spire of St. Mary's church was struck by lightning on Mon day. While Mrs. Ed Earnst was out observing the slight dam age done, she turned to return to her home near there and fell, causing the misfortune to have a bad break in her right arm. She is getting better at this time. Elmwood The closing meeting for the season of the Fairview Club was held with Mrs. Nettie Menden hall on Thursday afternoon. About half of the members were kept away because of the rain, but the 15 ladies present en joyed the entertainment day, and the games. Mrs. Dorothy Miller was program chairman, and guests were Mrs. Capwell of Lincoln and Mrs. Edna Fleisch man. Next meeting will be in September. George and Linda Pool are among those having whooping cough at this time. Elmwood Flower Day Is Held By Bluebird Club It was Flower Day at the Bluebird Club at the home of Mrs. Howard Pool on Tuesday. Mrs. Emmett Cook lead the pro gram about flowers and their arrangement and then the ladies went to the dining room and porch to put in practice the points learned. A beautiful scene was the result. Mrs. G R. Eveland reported on chemi cal gardening in Florida and the flowers there. Mrs. Horton told of the new book about the "Lady of the Lamp" Florence Nightingale by Cecil Smith. As sisting the hostess with the de licious refreshments were Mrs. Eveland and Mrs. Mabel Woods. Elmwood A family Mother's Day din ner was enjoyed at the Eric Charling home. There were 17 guests and the family present They came from Omaha, Callo way, Gretna and Sterling, 111 Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Rey nolds are the parents of a daughter born May 15, 1951. The lather is in Korea and Mrs Reynolds and Eirls are havine their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Shreve. The baby is named Rebecca Jo. Elmwood Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Drake have leased the Elms Cafe and plan to be ready for opening on June iirst. A playlet, "Each in Her Way, was directed by Mrs. Oral Kuehn at the W. S. W. S. meeting of the E. U. B. church on Wednes day, May 9, at the home of Mrs Paul Bornemeier. Mrs. Howard A. Pool and Mrs. Emily Gonzales motored to Om aha on Tuesday afternoon to attend the events of the annual meeting of the State Grand Chapter of Eastern Star. Mrs Pool also attended a buffet sup per at the home of Mrs. Henry Erdman. The occasion was the reunion of the Grand Ushers from the 1950 Grand Chapter. - Elmwood Literary Society Meets At Elmwood ' The Delian-Union Literary Society of the University of Nebr. met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard A. Pool on Sunday afternoon. Active mem bers, alums, and their families composed the group of 50 that were present. The afternoon was spent playing volley bail baseball, horse shoes, and visit ing. Nehawka Junior Woman's Club Has Meeting Mrs. Floy Buell of Murdock and Mrs. Lucy Lyle of Elmwood spoke on hobbies and demon strated their hobbies at the Junior Woman's club meeting at the home of Mrs. Kent Bal four Thursday evening. Mrs. Buell showed the members the different steps used in uphol stering a chair. Mrs. Lyle dis plaved knitted lace articles she had made. The club voted to enter the "Build Freedom With Youth" contest. They also decided to share the expenses of the Pup pet Show in the fall with the Senior Club. The theme of the meetine was "School Days" and was carried out in costumes and in the sack lunch. Mrs. Balfour and her assistants. Mrs. Robert Schlicht emeier and Miss Amy Mead ser ved refreshments.
