Jerry Straub, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Straub, came home from the hospital Sunday where he was suffering from an infection. He with eight other doctors were honored at a 50 year practition ers banquet that evening at 7 o'clock at the Paxton hotel. Six doctors were present to receive their 50 year service pins for their lapels. Dr. Brendel was the youngest of the group and the only one who had spent the 50 years in one town. Mrs. Brendel was also a guest. Rich ard Maseman accompanied them. Avoca Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith and Roger visited her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Boyd at Bellevue Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pittman and Cordy were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. LcRoy Nielsen and daughter at Spring- neid. Elmer Kepler was in Minne- i sota on business this week. Benning, Ga to see her son, Willis, last week. He is to leave soon for overseas. Avoca Avoca School Closes Friday The Avoca school closed Fri day, May 11 with a basket dinner. Avoca Mrs. Katherine Neumeister is spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. Erwin Smidt at Cook. Mrs. Clara Ruhge and the Wolcott grandchildren spent last week with Mrs. John Mohr while Mr. and Mrs. James Wolcott were in South Dakota. Avoca Annual Cemetery Donation Day Held The Cemetery Association held their annual donation day Fri day at the Congregational church. Mrs. William Johnson conducted the business meeting alter which the program com mittee gave the following pro gram: America; recitation, Lin da Gregg; piano solo, Bonita Lacy; history of Avoca, Mrs. Henry Maseman; high school chorus, two numbers; duet, Mrs. Roy Ruhge, Mrs. Calvin Car sten; close, America the Beau tiful. Lunch was served in the church parlors with Mrs. J. H F. Ruhge chairman. One hundred and thirty-seven dollars was received up to the present wnung. Avoca Mr. and Mrs. John Stubben- dick visited their son, Irving ana lamny sunaay. Mr. and Mrs. William Mase man were in Lincoln Sunday visiting Mrs. Carl Maseman who has sold her home and is moving into an apartment soon. The regional must be completed by May 18. The tourney will be held at the University of Nebraska May 24 to 26. Winners of the two games will meet to determine the repre sentative at the state meet. Cass Feeder Sells 36 Fat Heifers A Cass county feeder, Roy E. Chriswisser, had high selling fat heifers at the Omaha market last week, 35 weighing 565 that sold at $36. The government's projected rollback of beef cattle and beef prices, announced late Saturday, threw fat cattle trade at Omaha Monday into confusion and vir tually stopped selling of re placement stock. Louisville Eight-Year-Old Shoots Groundhog Danny Stohlman, eight year old son of Ellsworth Stohlman shot a ground hog in a tree at one a. m. last week with a .410. Louisville Elmer Wendt, who underwent surgery at the Methodist hos pital in Omaha last week was able to return home Sunday. He is much better. Mrs. Wm Hierley of Sioux Falls, S. D., is visiting here with Mr. and Mrs. L. Barnes and Stephen Allen. She is Mrs. Barnes' mother. Louisville Group To Hold Final Meeting The Golden Circle club , will hold its last meeting untiH fall May 15 at the home of Daisy McNealy. Louisville Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ackles left Monday for a short vaca tion which they are spending with their son, Clarence, Jr., and his wife and family at Dallas, Texas. Mrs. W. S. McGrew and baby returned heme Thursday. Mrs. McGrew was formerly Lucille Gaebel. Juniors Entertain Seniors And Faculty The Junior-Senior banquet was held Friday evening at the Legion hall. Twenty-two sen iors and the faculty were en tertained by the juniors. Rev. and Mrs. Halstead were also guests. Louisville .
