Union 4-H Cooks Meet At School House The Union 4-H Cooks met at the school house on Friday, April 13. Roll call showed all ! members present but Sharon Lee Neeld. The girls demon strated table setting and cooked soup. Betty True and Vickie Jorgensen demonstrated meas uring and sifting. The girls re ceived their 4-H pins and are doing fine work. Refreshments were served by Darla Smiley and Janice Meade. The next meet ing will be on May 25th. Shir ley Lee Neeld, reporter. Fourteen members and one guest, Mrs. Elsie Frans, were present. It was voted to give $5.00 to the cancer fund. Mrs. Patterson served the "dime cake" in the absence of Mrs. Herman. Mrs. Lindsey drew the dime piece of cake. Hostesses served very delicious refresh ments. .Union County Auxiliary Meeting Is Held Mrs. Charles Attebery and Mrs. Harry Gobleman went to Palmyra last Wednesday eve ning, where they attended the Otoe County Auxiliary meeting. Charles Attebery accompanied the ladies and attended the men's county meeting. At the ladies meeting the department guests were department presi dent. Gladys Yost and Genie McGlasson, chairman of re habilitation. The men joined the women for lunch and pro gram. Union Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Balfour at- J tended a surprise birthday party in honor of Charles Ferguson last Sunday. About 20 neigh bors and friends attended. Mrs. Liilie Stander. Mrs. Vio let Attebery, Mrs. Hazel Wolfe, Mrs. Mabel Wolfe and Mrs. Mary Gobelman attended Auxiliary county meeting at Eagle last Tuesday evening, April 24th. Meeting was presided oyer by county chairman, Mrs. Gertrude Pollard. Mrs. Evelyn Ransford of Eagle was elected county chairman; Mrs. Dorothy Jane cek. vice chairman. District of ficers of Legion and Auxiliary were present. After the business period, the Legion men joined the ladies for program and re freshments which were served by the Eagle unit. Union Fourteen Join Boy Scout Troop Fourteen boys of the newly organized Troop 362 at Union, received their tenderfoot badges and neckerchiefs last Friday evening, April 27th at the Amer ican Legion hall. Their leader is Andy Garfield. The colorful candle lighting ceremony was put on by Walter Burns, Scoutmaster of Troop 346 of Nebraska City and his two assistants. The proud parents pinned the badges on their son's shirts. There was a fine attendance of parents and friends. Weekly meetings are held at the Legion hall. These meetings are open to visitors or new members at any time. Union The Union Woman's club Is observing music week on Wed nesday evening at the Method ist church. i Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clark and little daughter Nancy Diane of Leavenworth, Kansas, were vis iting at the John Hansell, A. O. Pearsley and Will Porter homes last week. They also visited relatives in Omaha. ! Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Rohn were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Dy sart last Monday. Gerald Timothy, second truck operator at Missouri pacific sta tion at Union, is enjoying a two week's vacation at his home in Falls City. Union Forty-Five Are Guests At Tea The North Liberty club spon sored a tea and cancer film on Wednesday afternoon, April 25 at 2 o'clock at the Legion hall. Forty-five ladies attended. Mrs. Dr. Brendel of Plattsmouth, county chairman of the cancer drive in Cass county, was in at tendance ana gave a line talk explaining the work of the can cer drive. A free will offering for the work of cancer research and education amounted to $29.00. An attractive tea table, where members of the club served cake, mints and coffee to the guests, was centered with a beautiful arrangement of car nations and iris. The cancer drive insignia was found on each serving of cake and also on the napkins. Superintendent of Cass county schools, Lloyd Behrends, was in Eagle and Elmwood Thursday visiting schools.
