It is regrettable that more did not avail themselves of the oppor tunity of the chest X-ray unit last- month. Child welfare chairman, So phia Wolever. reported that she has the names of service men with whom the partners will correspond. These men are some of those who receive little or no mail and the Salon will try! to remedy this situation. Itwas voted to send donations to the Jewish hospital at Den ver'and to the Nebraska Cancer Society. At the close of the business session the hostesses. Elsie Mc Clintoc's and Minnie Schiber, took over with the stunts they had planned for the partners. As a result of their skill three partners were awarded prizes. Next marche will be called May. 23th. Initiation Held By Eastern Star Home Chapter, No. 189, East ern Star, held initiation Tues day, April 24, at eight o'clock at the Masonic Hall. Egenberger of Long Beach, Calif., is here visiting her brother, John Carmack and wife. Mrs. Egenberger had the mis fortune of falling Wednesday morning, breaking her arm. P29lt-4 , Miss Marilyn Stoehjr, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stoehr of Plattsmouth, will rep resent her home town at Girls' State at Lincoln June 5 to 11. Miss Stoehr was selected by members of the American Le eion Auxiliary, sponsors, and V. F. W. Auxiliary, co-sponsors. Also named was Miss Carol Rakow, niece of Mr. and Mrs. Earl lies. Miss Rakow was named alter nate to the big Girls' State gathering. Selection was based on scho lastic ability, leadership qualificatio n s, health and character. Both juniors at Plattsmouth high school. Miss Stoehr Miss Kakow and Miss Ra kow are in the upper-half of their class scholastically. Both are active in other school ac tivities, church functions, and other youth organizations. bazaar at the Legion hall. The long dining tables looked very festive with dainty decorations of tiny May poles and vases of sweet peas. One hundred and fifteen ladies were seated at the tables to enjoy a most delicious and attractive two course lunch eon, which was seryed by a group of the Auxiliary members. After the luncheon the guests were entertained with a fine program as follows: Mrs. Jane Roddy welcomed the guests, an nouncing that this year they were presenting a television show. As she spoke "The Moon Over the Mountain" floated across the top of the stage. Then followed a very dramatic little skit. The actors were Violet Attebery, Vita Snodgrass and Valda Attebery. They received a hearty applause. ent for several years, was again present and was presented a beautiful plate. Mrs. Crede Har ris, who was married the long est of any one present, was pre sented with a nice gift. She had been married for 60 years. Mrs. Phyms Ackley was pre sented a gift for being married the shortest length of time. Mrs. Crunk was awarded a gift for sewing the most carpet rags during the past year Mrs. Lambert, district presi dent of Palmyra, Nebr., was also presented with a gift. The fol lowing ladies who held the lucky numbers drawn out or the basket by Mrs. Nettie Mougey were all presented a little potted plant. These lucky ladies were Mrs. Mougey, Mrs. Bucholz, Mrs Watkins, Mrs. Coop, Lenna Bar ber, Mrs. Rihn, Mrs. Roddy, Miss ' ii Next on the program was a! Wright, Mrs. Comer, Mrs. Huse, style show of blue wedding Mrs. Raben, Mrs. Fassbender, Cappells Host At Dinner Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Frank Downey of Lincoln and Mrs. Etta Gorder of this city were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cappell. gowns which were modeled by the following ladies: Mrs. Velma Brown, Mrs. Bob Harrah, Mrs. Doris Ford, Mrs. Elsie Frans Mrs. Gwen Scoles, Mrs. Gretch en Everett, Mrs. Vita Snodgrass, Mrs. Exline, Mrs. Ruth Waldo, Mrs. Marion Clark, Mrs. Carrie Herman. Mrs. Phyllis Ackley and Mrs. Helen Garfield. During this modeling, Mrs. Paul Mad sen sang "A Beautiful Lady in Blue." She was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Earl Upton. This was followed by three vocal solos by Mrs. Fassbender of Nebraska City. She sang "Dear Little Rose," "A Heart That's Free" and "De Bee and De Butterfly," She was accom panied by Mrs. H. H. Raben of Nebraska City. Mrs. Vita Snodgrass, president of the Auxiliary, then gave a report of the work done by the Auxiliary during the past year. They have a membership of 65 ladies. A request number was then given by "The Dis-Cor-detts," a trio, namely Mrs. Jessie Upton, Marion Clark and Mary Gobelman. Mrs. Jane Roddy then intro duced her "Ken Murray's Glam our Lovelies" who were Gwen , Scoles, Ruth Waldo, Mary Gob I elman, Phyllis Ackley, Mrs. Har- ran, Mrs. Lrunn, uretcnen Ev erett and Violet Attebery. Vio let was the gal with the big voice and she insisted she loved the wide open spaces. Mrs. Ruth Waldo, Poppy chair man, gave her report and an nounced Union Poppy day will be May 5th. Two Gold Star mothers were presented with flower corsages. They werejtfrs. Coop of Nebras- Plattsmouth Deanery Holds 20th Anniversary Meeting The Plattsmouth Deanery of the council of Catholic Women held their 20th anniversary con vention on April 19, 1951 at St. John's Hall at Plattsmouth. Registration was at 9:45 and meeting was preceded by High iviuoo ai j u ciutn. ill Hie illum ing at St. John's church with Father John Kelly celebrant. Miss Edith Francois, chairman of the Deanery, called the con vention to order, followed by prayer by Father Kelly, who also extended the welcome. Father E. C. Tuchek of Holy Rosarv church gave the response. Fifty three members and three priests attended. Mr. Schwep pe was for many years a leader in the soil conservation work in Cass county, just recently quit ting as a member of the soil con servation committee. PPS., gave the address of the after- j noon. Mrs. J. J. cullen of Avo ca spoke on "Twenty Years of Affiliation with the National Council of Catholic Women." Election of officers resulted in the following being named: Mrs. George Bishof of Nebraska City, president; Mrs. E. G. Ruff ner, first vice president, and I Mrs. Wm. Woolcott. second vice j president, both of Plattsmouth. Mrs. bmii Lutz, Avoca, was elected treasurer; Mrs. J. J. Cul len, Avoca. chairman of organi zation; Miss Lydia Bossung, auditor; Mrs. Joe Walz, Dunbar, recording secretary; Director at Large, Mrs. Ed Berlett of Platts mouth. Mrs. Louis Poggemeyer of Paul, and Mrs. Thos. E. Dun bar of Nebraska City were named delegates to the diocesan council at Lincoln on May 10th and 11th. Alternates named were Mrs. Hedwig Henncr of Ne braska City and Mrs. George Francois of Paul. Ensemble singing of "Our Lady of Fatima" was accompanied by Miss Grace Berlett. The con vention closed with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and recitation of the Rosary with Father John Kelly presiding. Dorothy Campbell Is Initiated Into Honorary Sorority Miss Dorothy Cappell, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cap pell of this city, a junior at the University of Nebraska, was home over the week end. Ac companying her was Miss Dar lene Fiscus from near Alma, Nebr., also a student at the uni versity. Miss Cappell was initiated April 15 into the national hon orary home economics sorority, Phi Upsilion Unicron, at Lincoln. Mario Lanza is. called the "second Caruso" in musical circles and also known for his movie roles.
